Continued. Exactly a year ago, I took this photo, which people have consistently called "cute". Gah. I posted these two after returning from Bavaria last year, I believe. A splendid time. For some reason, this picture reminds me of Alec. The beard, perhaps. A switch in naming themes? So far the Photo Thread has followed the Matrix titles; StarWars was for the PPP. :P I haven't had a lot of pictures taken in the meantime. Not much time, and no camera. Instead, I have taken some time to collect some of my pictures over the last few years. Some of them you have seen in earlier photo threads. Others not. People keep telling me I look bright in this one. They never say this about my newer pictures, so obviously I've gone wrong somewhere. A school photo from back in 2003. One of the last ones with short hair... You've seen this one if you've been here a long time - it's the very first picture I've ever posted of me. People said I looked "creepy". In fact, I remember Alec saying I "scared the bejesus" out of him. I really liked the graduation robe I got then. I posed an awful lot in it. This is about the least stupid of the resulting pictures, so you can imagine why I'm not showing you the rest. Only half a year later, I began my apprenticeship. You can see I didn't expect to have a picture taken, because by the lank hair I obviously didn't shower that morning. >_< ---- UBB tells me I'm over my maximum image count, so the other four go in the next post. -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. It will fit the picture to the size of the previous one? Have you made sure that there are no width or height attributes set in the code? First of all, experience. Secondly, the ability to take it seriously. Really - have you ever wondered why in a family boardgame, the youngest children win most often? It's not just because the others "go easy" on them, it's also because they focus more of their attention on the game, where their parents might play more to pass time. You become good at games by paying attention to them. Remember which spells and weapons are good against which monsters. How to go through a dungeon with minimum risk - never charge in headfirst; go into combat mode and bless/haste before entering a room. Remember to check lizards to see if they are basilisks. All these little things are learned by experience, but only if you care about the game and how to play it. In summation, you become good at computer games by giving up a substantial part of your social life and sanity. But that's nothing new. :P [ Saturday, April 01, 2006 08:35: Message edited by: The holy blisful martir for to seke ] -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. Fortunately, we are on such a large scale and time frame that we can accelerate and slow down the pace at will. Days, even hours, only matter while two scenes are synchronous or in the same place - as in your spy's and the goblins' arrival at the citadel. For all purposes, Tyranicus' dealing with Supanik might be weeks prior or after the battles between the Abyss Knights and the Undead. Incidentally, that is one of the reasons why pigeons and messengers are much better than magical communications. When information travels at the speed of a horse or a bird, you need to worry less about time than when you can send messages at the speed of light. -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. | I have a love of woodwind instruments. There is only one thing more nerve-wracking than being besieged. These are the minutes or hours just before the walls are surrounded and the siege begins. --- Reflections, by Gabor Krizsan. The nature of the canyon path allowed for slightly less than half an hour of warning between the moment when a traveler could first be seen by the guard and the moment when he banged on the front gate with his fist. The intricate twists and bends and bridges were designed to slow down the advance while keeping the line of sight as far as possible. Beneath the waxing crescent, the citadel lay in utter silence as the goblins advanced. Inside the citadel, the night was less peaceful. Library staff were running around like ants in a seemingly disordered fashion, but each had their own tasks to attend to. Three of the mages descended to the lowest cavern levels, activating the sealing wards on the vaults - those halls with the most valuable, irreplacable records, that needed to be protected at all costs. Several wardens led the non-fighting personnel - the kitchen staff, the cleaners, the researchers - to the upper halls, where they barricaded themselves and waited for the end, one way or another. Meanwhile, the guards were roused and armed, assembling in the entrance hall, while the archers took their positions above the gate, waiting to see the intentions of the intruders. ------------- "... rogolath anyahersin ran!*" the mages intoned in unison, as green light streamed from their staves and seeped into the stone gate. The incantation had taken the better part of a minute, but its effect took only seconds to manifest. The dormant spell was activated, the gate vibrated for a moment and then began to glow as the spell began to feed off the power stored in the focusing crystals now locked behind the gate. The light quickly faded as the spell reached a balance, and the gate gave away to an illusory cave wall. The mages returned upstairs to join their fellows in the defense. ------------- "Sir, you should not be here." Orson spoke to Alfgar in a terse, lowered voice. The grand librarian had refused to retreat to the upper halls. "It is not your place to remind me where I should or should not be." Alfgar replied. "I will stay." Orson rolled his eyes, but had no patience for arguing. He wordlessly turned around to return to the entrance hall where his soldiers were already waiting. The rushed footsteps, clanking of doors and keys, and hushed voices continued for a few minutes and then gave way to a sudden silence. The defenses were in place; the citadel was holding its breath. * [ooc: not translatable] -------------------- Encyclopaedia Ermariana • Forum Archives • Forum Statistics • RSS [Topic / Forum] My Blog • Polaris • I eat novels for breakfast. quote:Given that the citadel, for all purposes, has one exit, and the only way to enter it or leave it is past a very long, relatively narrow path, it doesn't take all that much to "surround" it. :P I'm writing the IC right now, leading up to the point where you're at the front gate. You'll need to come knocking soon, or we'll be stuck in this scene while the world moves on around us. Also, I guess prem needs an IC from you before the battle scene can continue. -------------------- Encyclopaedia • Archives • Members • RSS [Topic / Forum] • Blog • Polaris • NaNoWriMo Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair. | I have a love of woodwind instruments. Thralni (re secret entrances): There isn't. There are two ways you can enter the citadel; one is by flying and one is by knocking at the front gate. There are no back exits you could find (let alone open) from the outside. Edit: The flying was a joke. Edit: Also, specify WHEN you are arriving. It is currently two hours past midnight, and the citadel is surrounded by goblins. There is no way you can sneak past them, so you will either have to stay back, be discovered, or not arrive at the citadel until dawn (when I assume the negotiations will have finished). I'm assuming this is supposed to be in an html page, since I can't think of any other context where it would make sense. where image1.jpg is your original image, image2.jpg is the image while the mouse is hovering over it, and image3.jpg is the image while the mouse is pressed. If pressing is not supposed to do anything, leave out the "onMouseDown" and "onMouseUp" parts. Incidentally, if it's just the same picture, you could replace the "this.src='...'" with "this.width='x';this.height='y'" for resizing.
