Dikiyoba.

There is this Urban Legend about a woman whose number was just one digit away from the hotel's next door. She spent some time complaining to the hotel and asking them to change their number (since she got calls all the time). After being ignored, she took the hotel's orders and caused havoc.

In different variations of the story, the hotel either changed its number, or went bankrupt and was bought out by her, or went bankrupt and was sold to another chain that mistakenly called her.

I doubt it's true, because firstly the details are vague, secondly it has a punchline (the fewest real stories do), and thirdly because it is almost custom-tailored to give warm fuzzies to each of us who has experienced big evil corporations stomping on them.

But it's still funny.

I seem to suffer from mild hypochondria and frequently panic when I'm feeling the slightest bit ill. Once, I even went to the trouble of setting up a dead man's switch on my website once that would display a list of passwords if I didn't deactivate it once a day.

I eventually took it off because the risk of being unable to come online one day and compromising all my accounts outweighed the small risk of dying and leaving things locked behind me.

A combination of Google and a keylogger ensures that there is precious little about my life that would remain private once I'm gone. Fine with me, I won't be there to be embarassed.

Congratulations.

If I posted a celebratory topic every 500 posts, it would be far too frequent, I'm afraid.

In spite of the ominous title, this is not supposed to be yet another quasi-religious debate. The topic stays firmly in the tangible world, as far as the internet can be called tangible.

---

I saw an interesting topic on Slashdot recently, which I thought would be very interesting to see Spiderweb's reaction to.

So, once you die, what happens to your online identity and your data? Have you made any preparations/clauses in your will/lists of online accounts? I realize this is unfamiliar territory for a community whose average age is around 20, but some people plan ahead. I also knew a girl who was murdered a year ago at age 26. Some things happen unexpectedly...

I am very certain that in 2004, Custer would not have begun to think about renaming himself Belisarius.

That said, it was a historical inevitability of sorts.

Unfortunately, I do not have a mustache by any reasonable definition of the word. I am growing one however. Since I am blond, so will the beard. :P

And much as I hate to disappoint people, today appears to be the bimonthly cleaning day in our floor. I won't be available for phone sessions, unfortunately.

That's strange. Can you get http://maps.google.com to load? Frappr uses that as an interface, I think.

Also, if you mean the Frappr banner... well... just check the top of this forum. :P

Spy: It was Alec who started it. It started a trend though...

Also, as a point of interest, Firefox 1.5 displays my whole post backwards. When I was at work, I was using 1.0.4 which doesn't recognize the symbol.

It gets worse. My father has a voice recording that sounds so authentic I can hardly tell the difference - and there is a brief pause after the greeting.

quote:

Recording: Hello?

Me: Hi Dad! I--

Recording: ... I am currently not able to take your call, [...]

I still fall for it on occasion.

On that note, if you are not limited in length, try recording a message that consists mainly of silence broken by occasional "Oh really?", "Wow, you don't say!", "That's awful!", and see how long it takes until the caller catches on. ^_^

I don't see it backwards, actually. However, I remember a certain unicode symbol that would do it. This symbol is present in Redstart's location bar.

This is the symbol code:

This is what it looks like:

Firefox doesn't do this, however. Perhaps IE still does, or Opera.

Edit: It doesn't mess up this post in IE, although it does mess up Redstart's location bar. Behold the madness of the UBB.

‮Edit2: On the same line, perhaps?

Edit3: That's the solution (it still only works in IE, btw). Apparently line breaks stop the reversal now - a definite improvement. Back in the day when it was all the rage it would mess up the whole topic sometimes...

Which is assuming that there is actually a ball in the center of that tetrahedron. I can't see it, but I don't know of any molecule in this shape that doesn't have such a center, so I assume it's in there. ;)

Since I am one continent removed from the scene, all I can add is ooc support, but I agree with what you are doing. Agree a lot, that is.

Also, the IC post planned for today is cancelled. I just managed to finish homework and have lectures tomorrow, so the earliest I can write is tomorrow night.

Apologies for taking control of the "Nightly Visitors" scene, but this is taking too long.

That sounds easy in theory, but disabilities - especially mental disabilities - are quite hard to define, especially when you add additional criteria such as "serious". I'm not saying it wouldn't work at all, just saying it would work no better than any other system that is judged on a case-by-case basis. You're not going to close loop-holes with it (which is not the worst thing, necessarily).

Then will you at least allow psychological concerns as "serious disability"?

Due to physiological and psychological concerns, (the discussion of which might violate the CoC), women who are raped rarely conceive children.

Oops, you're right. It's fixed now. You know, it would be easier if both sides didn't name themselves 'pro-something'. I mean, can't the abortion supporters just call themselves anti-life? I'm sure that wouldn't cause them to lose support.

Well, I'm sure the proliferators (ouch!) wouldn't want to call themselves anti-choice, either. :P
