I always thought that was a particularly inspired story. Hades has always been a good friend to me. If I had gone Greek for that mythoidentifying question, I'd probably have said Kerberos. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

Last thing you ate: A cinnamon raisin English muffin, plain. What you're wearing right now: Boxers and a t-shirt. quote:Aha, now we get to the crux of things. It sounds like you are very invested in your viewpoint. quote:As I already stated, I am willing to believe breast feeding is more successful in a home environment. The part I find absurd is the "nearly 100%" part. quote:This link redirects to another website which says nothing (that I can see, anyway) about "attachment parenting." A bit of a sloppy reference. I take it this is some kind of pop psychification of attachment theory? quote:I'm quite speechless. Edit: quote:Quoted for agreement. The worst thing about life is its inability to accept death. Edit: Thuryl, I suspect Salmon was just talking about the complete eradication of illness, not its amelioration or the reduction of suffering. One thing I will say about cats, however: they seem to be much more suited to being hybridized into a humanoid race in fantasy settings. I can think of a bunch of cat-races other than Nephilim. Dog-races are much rarer -- really the only one I can think of are the Rawulfs in Wizardry 6, and they were nothing to get excited about. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

I'm sure there's an explanation for this somewhere, but I'm not sure where to look. What's the deal with that thing Thuryl posts on the closing of a topic? -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

The sad thing is, the propaganda machine isn't even particularly strong -- it's just that there is absolutely no resistance to it. Which is ridiculous. I can state, however, that the Daley propaganda machine in Chicago is definitely stronger (and has been for decades upon decades, from what I've read). (Of course, the current Daley would be much less controversial than Bush even without the propaganda.) -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

quote:And that's why I chose said preachers for my counterexample. People who deny the existence of the Holocaust may well be vicious, rotten anti-Semites, but stating disbelief in a historical event is not the same thing as advocating murder. It may be related, but there is an important distinction. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

(Quotes from Bruce) quote:I'm certainly not going to argue that the structure of the modern health care system is admirable (not in most countries, anyway). And I'll agree that the medical establishment makes mistakes and is not always right. But even if you don't like the centuries of research the medical establishment has to offer, what in the world is there about some guy with a web site that makes him worth listening to? quote:No, it's dishonest and manipulative. quote:Um... okay. So, what are you doing, saintlywise, to walk the walk? quote:Where in the world did this absurd-sounding statistic come from? I'm willing to believe breast-feeding is less common in hospital births, but come on, man. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

According to that theory, Zeviz, shouldn't the existence of hate crimes against gays be justification to ban speech suggesting that homosexuality is unnatural? Hell, that kind of speech has an even more direct link to hate crimes than holocaust denial does (though I agree there is a legitimate link there, as well). It's a ridiculous idea. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

quote:Personally, I'm most terrified by this statement of Bruce's. The implication is basically that debate and discourse are worthless, and should be abandoned. This kind of statement is used by people whose job it is to obfuscate and confuse in order to facilitate power. Certain White House Press Secretaries come to mind. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

Amen, Selima! It's ALL about the X-Men cartoons. Man, those things had animation technique that was way ahead of their time. I'm looking forward to X-3 too, though I'm skeptical. I was really impressed by the first movie, particularly Rogue and Wolverine.. oh, and Mystique. X-2 didn't work for me (and not just because they carpetbombed Iceman into the ground). This isn't a movie I'm looking forward to, but I saw Date Movie last weekend and laughed my ass off. I really didn't imagine Alyson Hannigan dancing around in prosthetic blubber could possibly be funny, but it was. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

quote:Accepting the fact that **** happens (sorry, I couldn't see any way around that particular phrase here) hardly requires one to be passive and helpless, let alone pessimistic. Religion may suggest that **** happens for a reason, but it doesn't make that reason clear. For a Christian, medical example, Job comes to mind. quote:"Detoxify" is one of those words that really gets abused these days... some might call it a New Age buzzword ;) Yes, the body has ways of removing poisons from its system, but using such a general term so vaguely is kind of on par with saying "food is often used in metabolic processes." If this statement is actually true, then I have a question: WHAT are the "certain ways" of detoxification that are directly tied to having a cold? -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

When I opened this topic, I thought, wow, will you sign my yearbook too? It's the end of summer camp! But now I see this really has turned into "This Is Your Life." I respect you for opening up in the other thread. I can't imagine baring myself on these forums. Beyond that, I don't like sugar-smackish goodbyes. Good luck with everything, and I'm sure you'll be welcome here (well, as welcome as anyone is) if you decide to return. -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |
