Very funny comics. PS About my previous comment on the thread, when I say something mean followed by " :) ", it's intended to be a joke. -------------------- Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword, For it too has the power to kill. My Russian accent has grown even worse over the past couple of years, so I am not sure how valid the result is, but here is mix of Moscow dialect of Russian with California dialect of English and British English taught in Russian schools: Vowel mergers/splits: Rhyme: trap, bath (the vowels, anyway) - yes Rhyme: father, bother - yes Identical: cot, caught - yes Rhyme: foot, goose - yes (if you mean the oo sound) Identical: Lennon, Lenin - no Identical: pin, pen - no Identical: line, loin - no Identical: coil, curl - no Final vowel of "happy" rhyme with vowel of "meet" - yes R madness: Identical: father and farther - yes/no (depending on how badly I mispronounce them) Identical: Mary, marry, merry - yes Rhyme: mirror, nearer - no Rhyme: fern, fir, fur - no Identical: horse, hoarse - yes L madness Rhyme: salary, celery - no/yes (depending on how badly I mispronounce them) Identical: fill, feel - yes Identical: fell, fail - no Identical: full, fool - yes Consonants Same middle consonant: Singer, finger - yes Identical: Heat, eat - no Identical: Should've, should of (if you were to say "should of") - yes (after trying to say it) Identical: Wait, weight - no Identical: Wine, whine - yes EDIT: Fixed a couple things. quote:I know it's a bit late, but the thread is active again and I just saw this. It's a 87.5% chance, rather than 150% chance, because you can't simply add probabilities of consecutive events. For example, you get a chance to block partial damage only if you fail to block full damage. So your total chance of getting partial damage is: 50% (chance of failing to make full block) * 50% (chance of making partial block) = 25% Thus your total chance of getting hit with less than max damage with Parry of 17 or 18 is: 50% chance of blocking full + 50% (not blocking full) * 50% (blocking partial) + 50% (not blocking full) * 50% (not blocking partial) * 50% (ripost) = 87.5% -------------------- Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword, For it too has the power to kill. So far I've managed to stay away from this thread, believing Aran's claim that he was not trying to push a political agenda with his moment of silence for a "peace activist". However, if spy.there insists on turning this into a political debate, why don't we talk about all the young women blown to pieces for the crime of living in a country that some people want to erase from the map, for example, about a girl that I knew: Marla Benett. Considering that Palestinians just elected Hamas, the "political party" that sponsored many of the suicide bombings and whose platform calls for destruction of Israel, and that after Israel left Gaze, Palestinians started to fire rockets at Israeli towns, instead of Gaza settlements they were attacking before, Israeli bulldozers look to me like the least of the obstacles to Middle East peace. EDIT: Sorry about name confusion. If I understood this thread correctly (see comments by Marlenny (Dominican Desire), Slartucker and Alorael (The Question I Ask of Me)), Ed is just an older member playing the part and laughing at everybody's reactions. Even if he isn't, I don't think anybody could really be this socially inexperienced at 14 unless he lived his entire life locked in a closet, so there is at least some overplaying going on. PS And I definetely agree that people who draw paralels between leaving a message board to which you've recently arrived and a suicide are blowing things way out of proportion. -------------------- Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword, For it too has the power to kill. Currently, A2 has as many registered-great responses (40%) as BoE. It does have fewer didn't-registered-greats, but it was much easier to just compare registered-great response columns for all games. :) Besides, I was thinking more about games made entirely by Jeff and BoE is mainly popular because of scenarios made by players. Slarty, when are you going to make more of these fun comics? There are some interesting results here. For example, satisfaction with Geneforge series declined as the series progressed, while satisfaction with Exile and Avernum series peaked at E/A2 and didn't decline as much for the third installment. (However, satisfaction rate for A4 is about as low as for A1.) A2 looks like the most beloved of Spidweb games. -------------------- Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword, For it too has the power to kill. quote:Being godfather of all Geneforge character editors looks quite significant to me, as far as contributions are concerned, but you also have to be very vocal. Silver was not very prominent himself, but the other two Cartographers were among most noticeable members when they got their titles. Same with BoE Posse. (If group titles are given out, belonging to a group is a replacement for individual prominence.) As for my title, it's another artifact from Drakefyre's first Marathon level themed title spree. Sometimes when you can't make out the words in a speach you are hearing, your brain fills it in with random words you know. For example, sometimes I think I hear Russian or English words when people are speak a foreign language I don't know. The same effect is probably going on here. If you work him into the plot, whoever is leading him should make sure he doesn't run into all that food. Bunker is probably the refuge from the flame wars on old Misc board. The graveyard of that forum would be a very dangerous place (located between game boards and mod board). According to Aran's stats (http://www.ironycentral.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=003203), this board has about 200-300 "active" members in any given month and only about 70-100 of them make 10 or more posts per month. Dikiyoba, nice story. :) I hope it will be continued. Sir David, if you want to see a story with oldbies, I can repost Scales' story somewhere. (It didn't go past first few chapters, but those were quite good and had all the prominent members from late iconboard/early UBB.) I still have a draft of it in my e-mail inbox. (A benefit of never deleting old e-mails.)
