(Well Starcraft and Warcraft aren't shooters, but I think you knew that).

But yea, I forgot that part: Popularity doesn't equal greatness. Deus Ex? Epitome of greatness. But honestly, it didn't sell as well as Ion Storm would have hoped.

Halo was popular because it was one of the pioneers of a new genre on consoles. But then, shooters had been pretty much non-existent (save 007: Goldeneye [N64] and a select few others). Finally, all the console-heads got a chance to blow stuff up like the big boys. That, coupled with its party-friendly multiplayer modes made it a success for Microsoft's venture into consoles.

That kind of success will always be repeated, seeing as Halo was simply a repeat of the early days of say, Doom or Quake. Once someone figures out how to make RTS's work with only a gamepad, you can probably bet it'll be a hit. At least I would hope so.

Starcraft has books. Warcraft has books. Doom has books. Every Star Wars game has a book (and movies).

I fail to see how a book can improve the plot of a game. If having to read a book to understand something is part of it, then count me out.

And hey, I enjoyed Doom 3's old school throw-back. Multiplayer is the shiz-nit, as well.

How did the Pillar of Autumn find Halo? It wasn't an accident...

Why is Covenant technology so much like stuff you find on Halo?

Covenant, Flood, Halo, see the pattern here?

The point is, I never wondered any of this. None of these things you've mentioned ever crossed my mind as weird. Look at Half-Life, for example. If you're going to tell me you didn't say, "just who the hell is he?" after seeing the G-man a couple times, you're lying. HL2 goes further with the Combine and your adversary. HL3 is supposedly going to tie the loose-ends, but I'm skeptical.

And if that last one is supposed to be some Biblical reference, then that only proves my point that the plot is dry.

I hate Halo.

I can think of a thousand other shooters I'd rather play that have actual creative plots.

That or mindless killing, which Halo doesn't do too well, either.

Edit, for clarification: shooters ARE my main genre. So yes, I know them. That, and Action-RPGs.

I guess I'm the only one, but I never have problems with inventory load.

I hear (read) stories all the time about people who apparently pick up every item they find. I can understand this at the early stages, since you are barely scraping up enough money to get by. But mid- the late-game, that's just ridiculous. You don't need to do that to be successful in your money-gathering venue.

Well since Alo kept the idea alive, I'll explain.

This Max Payne had you fighting a group of people, in (something like) 10 second intervals. You had 10 seconds to move, shoot, hide before the enemy gets the same. It makes some intense moments, since literally every second counts.

But let's speculate on what this RTS would be? I say it would be 3 races interlocked in combat for centuries, before a new king for each comes to finally win. Go ahead and cut-n-paste, Jeff.

Wizardry is in first person, and remains turn-based. But again... we were talking shooters. Come to think of it, I'm not sure if a shooter would be possible in turn-based mode. There was that one attempt (a Max Payne mod), but that's a little far out (and not first person ;) ).

Just to reiterate, Starcraft is in no way an action RPG. Or an RPG. Or an action game.

And to reiterate another point, Jeff would suck it up trying to make an RTS, or any other genre for that matter. He should stick to "RP"-G's.

Grand-grandfather? Isn't that something like, I dunno... your GREAT-grandfather?

Common English aside, if you've met the person 3 times in your life, and none of them were particularly significant, how does that deserve respect? Maybe I'm just a cold-hearted jerk. Or maybe I'm sensible.

edit: er... don't mix ideas in one sentence.

The fourth lesson being:

Oldbies who make funny of you always use "hilarious" (read: makes no sense) degrading statements. Yet, any insults you throw, regardless of content, is considered immature and incorrect, and you are painted as an over-weight Nazi-lover.

In other words... it's impossible to win. People always have their favorites. Don't get in arguements.

To further throw things off, I recently remembered I haven't registered BOA for Windows. Only Mac. Right now I'm working on that, then the conversion process should be quick and painless.

That and I have no time. But whatever.

I just (literally) got home from seeing Sin City and I must say...

I'm very impressed.

Being only "familiar" with the graphic novels, I wasn't always sure who everyone was. All three stories had a protagonist that spoke to me, personally.

If you are 17 or older (here in the States), go see it. High violence, lots of sex themes, and grisly, yet touching, tales of heroism in a world of darkness.

I give it a 95/100.
