A shear genius? So in addition to making games, he's a master of the scissors? I wonder if he could help me out with my beard. I'm having some trouble with the shape.

You could probably do it by making the corpses items and somehow making it so all creatures drop them when they die. Maybe not, though.

That's the kind of project one would be well advised not to publicise until one has actually begun production. Ideally, one ought to keep it under wraps until all the big problems have been hammered out and screenshots are available. Of course, that's just my opinion.

It should be easier to use the popup menu to open them in a new window. Not a day goes by that I don't wish I could do that on my crummy Windows laptop.

Scenarios could be designed in any language, really. The tools and skill descriptions would be in english, but the dialog could be in any language you want. Although I'm not sure if it would be possible to use characters that aren't standard in the English alphabet, but I don't see why not.

Fine meal isn't a fine meal, like some gourmet pasta with a garlic pesto sauce. It's finely ground grains of something like corn or wheat or oats. It could be used to cook a spectacular meal in the hands of a competent cook, but if you tried to just eat it, I think it would just turn to a paste and wouldn't be very tasty.

Nudity isn't totally without its place. The mere presence of nudity doesn't automatically transform a work into pornography. Your "proven" fact, Squeaky, sounds suspect to me. When I was twelve, that was probably true for me, but as an adult, it is far from the case. Perhaps I am desensetised from working in the internet porn biz, but I would like to think that most intelligent adults don't simply turn into gibbering idiots when they see a picture of a nipple.

Educational institutions can receive discounts from Adobe. If you're a student, you may also be eligible for a discount, although I'm not sure how you would go about getting one.

You should still be able to minimize it by right-clicking on the task bar thing.

For the Elements one, maybe. Photoshop 7 is closer to $600.

Okay, I've been roughing out some stories in my head, with the intention of using them as Blades of Avernum scenarios. This led me to wonder about Spiderweb Software's official stance on profanity and obscenity in user-created scenarios, which led me further to wonder about their position on other areas which are on the borderline of free speech, such as pornography and hate speech.

Let me just say right now that I'm not planning on making any scenarios advocating bigotry in any way, but it's not inconceivable that a story might call for a villain or gray-area character who holds views which I find reprehensible. Spiderweb games do actually have a precedent for this, as one of their common themes seems to be discrimination. Using metaphors (Sliths and Nephilim, for example) is definitely one way to deal with it. A3 features at least three homosexual NPCs in the demo, and they don't seem to be discriminated against in any way, but what if a scenario involved a homophobic character?

Likewise, I'm not likely to create a scenario featuring anything graphic, but a plot may call for full or partial nudity. How would that sit with Spiderweb?

And, getting back to the language issue, not everybody uses language appropriate to children. From experience, I can tell you that soldiers, laborers, and drinkers have a tendency to say things that wouldn't necessarily be suitable for all audiences. I will be strongly tempted to recreate that aspect of humanity in any scenario I write. Obviously dialog won't be completely offensive, but from time to time, we all encounter people with salty language. I know. I'm one of them.

Wondering about all this got me wondering about distribution. Are there scenario servers? Are they owned, operated, and/or regulated by Spiderweb? If I create a scenario that Spiderweb doesn't or wouldn't approve of for whatever reason and make it available for download from my own domain, will that be a problem? Would I be expected to include disclaimers, and at what point would that be necessary?

Any thoughts or responses would be helpful, or at the very least, interesting.

Some of the best pixel-art creators I know are in the 14-16 range. It's really not that hard. Just takes practice. Oh, and a decent image editor.

File Sizes in Blades of Avernum

I'm curious as to what kind of file sizes we should expect with BoA.

So, for those of you who are into BoE, what's the average file size of a scenario? What's the largest file size you remember seeing?

And for anybody with inside information, how much larger would a scenario file be, transferred from Exile to Avernum?

Heh. I was on the phone, credit card in hand, the day A2 was released. I had my registration code before the demo was done downloading. I used my internal scenario editor to edit this thread from my memory. At least, I keep telling myself that.

Black outlines aren't actually necessary. I find it's best to go with outlines that are the color of what they are outlining, but much darker. Just light enough that you can tell that it's brown, blue, red, or what have you.

I guess this is sort of on-topic. Most of the bitmaps in the DATA folder for A3 give me an error message when I try to open them. Something to the effect that the file data cannot be parsed. Any ideas what I can do about this?

EDIT: Adobe Photoshop 6, Windows 98

Hi, new to the forum, yadda yadda.

Is there any kind of tentative release date for Blades of Avernum? Is there a page somewhere on the Spiderweb site with current information? All I could find was the article on what is and isn't going to be included, which made no mention of the release schedule as far as I could tell.
