I also think that the band changed styles a little when they changed lead singers, too. The guitars on Back in Black are heavier, darker, and more modern than the guitars on Highway to Hell. They're both good albums, but they don't sound alike to me.
To me, Back in Black sounded heavier than the other post-Bon Scott era albums as well. The Razors Edge was definitely higher pitched than Back in Black.

quote:
He says that Bon Scott and Brian Johnson sound different, I say they sound similar. Not the same, but similar. What are your thoughts on this, Eldibs?
They do sound similar, but different. Brian Johnson has a deeper voice, and has more "croak" in his voice. Also, as time has passed, he seems to have gained more "croak." Regardless, AC/DC has always had a unique singing voice. The only band I've heard come close to this voice is Nazareth, in the song "Hair of the Dog," who's chorus is expletive (look up the lyrics), and which almost always gets mistaken for an AC/DC song.

quote:
You wouldn't like it if they had stopped back then
I wouldn't like it if they stopped ever.

By the way, AC/DC is working on a new album that's supposed to come out some time this year. How's that for longevity in a band?

I like them both equally. They both do different things with their voice well. If you were to have Brian Johnson sing "High Voltage", it would sound wrong. Likewise, if Bon Scott were to sing "Mistress for Christmas", it would sound wrong.

What? How often do they update Kingdom of Loathing? RuneScape is one of the most frequently updated MMORPG's I've seen.

Also, many of the people whom I met while "playing" were incredibly rude and harrassed me.
Most of the RuneScape players are 13-year-olds, probably with psychological revenge obsessions. Those combined causes them to be rude to anyone who isn't is good as them in-game. If you were to meet many of the rude high-level players in real life, you would probably find that they have no life other than playing videogames and trying to be |_||33|2 1337. Note that this isn't true with all of them, but is a generalization.

Pseudo-3D? The game is full 3D. And while you may compare them to standalone games and find them hideous, I compare them to other Java games, and find them quite nice.

That is a brilliant idea.

Adding nothing to the discussion, my favorite bands, musicians, songs, genres, etc. are as follows:

Favorite Genre: Classic Rock
Favorite Band: AC/DC

Various other Bands I like:
Def Leppard
Poison
Van Halen
Aerosmith
Led Zeppelin
Foreigner
Journey
Queen

There are somwhat similar things in Half-Life 2. Like news articles on the wall showing some of the back story.

Well, I'm heading home for Christmas Vacation today, so I won't be having Internet access until next year. I'll probably lurk around a bit today, but after today, I'm gone. So, have fun posting without me, and I'll see you all then.

I won't be wishing anyone "Happy Holdiays," but I will wish you all a Merry Christmas, a Happy Chanukah, or a Happy Kwanza, or whatever you celebrate. For those who don't celebrate anything: too bad for you. Get a holiday.

Correct. Generally, around here, nefariousness refers to unsupported cheating that is usually against the CoC to talk about. And nefariousness can get you a lot more under the weapons category than the editor can, like hand grenades, for example.

But who seriously can spare 27,000 gold for one extra bonus point on your Alien Blade?
A very dedicated Exile player.

If you get the Magic Wave Blade from the Editor, you can augment it. Jeff forgot to make the editor set the "Magical Item" attribute on them. I find that Enhanced Magic Wave Blades can make very effective weapons. Unfortunately, this is the only weapon from the Editor that you can do that with.

I'm not allowed to have p2p clients on my computer, due to the school's rules. I can't even have file sharing enabled on my PC. If I do, I get booted off the network.

However, before I started going to college here, I used LimeWire. It was the only thing I could get to work, and it was fairly reliable.

It doesn't count if the secret agencies are just part of the government. I haven't played F.E.A.R. yet, so I can't comment on it, but excluding Area 51, I can't think of another game that centers around aliens, the government, and secret agencies.

Deus Ex is not exactly your typical FPS. And it doesn't have the same level of immersion as Riven...I'm playing through Deus Ex right now, and it's a stellar game (easily on my top 10 list) but I don't ever feel like I'm in its world--unlike with HL2 and Riven.
Yeah, I know. I was commenting on its story (which is totally freakin' awesome, by the way). It has fairly little immersion. I do like how you can interact with almost everything in the game. I found it amusing to hurl potted plants at UNATCO soldiers (until they shot me).

quote:
Replayability is not king, or something like Asteroids would be the best game of all time.
Moreover, I'm betting playing Riven once takes more time than playing HL2 three times. And if you replay a shooter more often than that, there's something wrong with you.
Depends on the player. Personally, If I try really hard, I can beat most shooters in 2 days. However, they stay fun for much longer than that. And yes, I have replayed a shooter more than that (Deus Ex). Also, while replayability isn't king, it is important. Replayability is what keeps me playing UT2004 even after around a year after I bought it. Also, replayability is a good indicator of how fun it is to play. After all, if a game is boring, why would you continue playing it, and if a game is fun, why would you stop playing it?

Sure, the Myst series isn't very replayable, but that misses the point. The more you rely on story, situation, and character to provide the enjoyment, the less replayable the game is going to be.
Sometimes, the story can be good enough to warrant playing through multiple times. Also, that's why you put in multiple endings. Look at Deus Ex. There are 3 endings, and there are many things you can do to alter the course of the game. Its story is one of the highest (if not the highest) rated there is.

One game with a similar story to Half-Life? How about nearly every FPS out there? Wierd alien things invading from another dimension... yeah, that's original.
Sure, all sorts of games have aliens, but how many involve aliens, the government, an unknown agency, and lots of realistic-sounding science mumbo-jumbo all at once?
