Nothing, of course -- plus shipping and handling.

Which would cost alot because it would rechristen the ship "StinkyHold", and nobody would handle it.
The first one only works if guano stinks.

Guano, being bat feces, does indeed stink.

Don't spam one of the few worthwhile topics left to RWG, sirrah.

I can't be bothered googling, something in my memory tells me that guano is used for making gunpowder. Nitrates spring to mind. SPAM springs to mind. An ill omen?

I know I'm canned. And thankyou for doing it. It will help me collect my sanity on my way out of the door. I'll give it back soon, though.

I don't know. But when I looked at my profile, it said: "Last updated by Drakefyre", so I suppose it was him.

Hey, I think that the pigeon appearance was a perfectly valid tangent from BSC's post on page one. And, after all, haven't we all learned a thing or two in the meantime? I also brought us back on topic with the results from my google search for RW, so it hasn't drifted that badly, though admittedly, the turn toward guano has been a misstep.

I say we continue to love and nourish this topic as it deserves. :)

I humbly beg forgiveness of the RWG thread for introducing the first mention of 'guano'.

In penance I raise the following RWG-related question.

Consider the two cases of tiny start-up shareware game companies, Richard White's Chromite Software, and Jeff Vogel's Spiderweb Software. The name of Richard White is a scorn and a hissing, while it is Jeff Vogel who provides the electronic glory in whose radiance we all bask.

Just how and why did their two paths diverge?

Let me provide the most basic response immediately, to the effect that Jeff's games all have positive pressure, whereas the same cannot be said in Richard's case. But can we not delve deeper than this, and identify any basic strategies that may have contributed to this pressure disparity?

I think that's the most excessively creative way I've ever seen to say that something sucks.

Wouldn't positive pressure technically be "blowing" as opposed to "sucking?"

(As a side question, are folks in the US the only ones who include punctuation at the ends of sentences inside quotes? I heard somewhere that this is the case.)

Yes, but if you take apart the logic of SoT's sentence, it's stating that Jeff's games have positive pressure whilst Richard's have negative pressure. You do make a valid point in that SoT isn't exactly being flattering to Jeff either.

My intent was to imply that Jeff's games do not suck. I didn't think about them blowing. I guess I should edit what I wrote, but, aah, helicoid it.

My understanding of punctuation and quotation is that we're supposed to put punctuation inside quotes to make it look nicer printed, but that it is sometimes right to keep the punctuation out, if whether or not the punctuation is part of the quotation is actually important. E.g.

Did I just hear you say "hello"?

I'm probably wrong about this, but I'd even be inclined to write

Did I just hear you say "Hello?"?

I think it's a little tidier, as well as more intellectually honest, not to include punctuation inside quotations, especially when the punctuation is being introduced into the quote by the quoter.

I'm not sure about double punctuation, SoT, but your examples are proper punctuation almost everywhere in the world. Only in the U. S. of A. do we insist that the punctuation must go inside the quotation marks no matter what.
