Is it just me, or has spidweb gone all wonky and giving errors to everyone? First it gave me 500 internal service errors instead of loading the boards home page, then some of the threads refused to appear, now I'm getting internal service errors again. Is this just my computer?

It's been big time wonky today, and slower than usual lately.

I have noticed it being a bit more sluggish then usual. Though since I have dial up I more often then not blame it on my connection rather then the website

I'm getting through on less than a fifth of all requests right now. The rest either show up blank or as a 500.

Took 4 tries to get this post through.

It took me five minutes to send just a simple little pm.

I occasionally come home to a internal server error, but it hasn't been too bad I don't think.

Whatever it was, it's gone - I haven't yet seen an error in the last 5-6 page loads.

Edit: Yessir Mr. Murphy sir I'll shut up now.

Needless to say, the next 4 page loads after that failed.

I just got about ten error messages trying to get this post through. I think UBB is eating itself up, or Irony Central's server has come to the end of its lifespan.

Obviously, Richard White is angry that his shrine is being threatened, and is making his displeasure known. The obvious solution: allow the forum to remain intact.

On that subject, there's a new feed. http://pied-piper.ermarian.net/feed/posts , with "/[forum]/[thread]" being an optional addition.

It's not quite as up-to-date as the old one at feeds.ermarian.net (it has to download more, and therefore does it more slowly and less often), but you should generally find posts appearing after an hour or less. Its advantage is that it has the entire post instead of the blurb found in "Today's Active Topics", and it will never "skip" posts when a topic is getting many posts in a short time.

Believe Dikiyoba, it's freakier when the thread disappears around the time you hit the add reply button. :P

1920?!?

Wow. I knew UBB was old, but even I didn't think it was that old. :P

But seriously, was that date just randomly selected, or is it some sort of default date?

That's the default for that bug. It's happened before.

Somebody posted a thread asking for help with a game a few days ago, shortly before the errors started big time. It was in the preview thing on the main forum page, but when I clicked on the forum it wasn't there. I went back to the main page and it was still in the preview, so I clicked on it. The thread appeared and seemed perfectly normal, asking for help. I figured it was temporary and the thread would show up shortly, so I ignored it. It didn't show up though, and the person's question never got answered.

1920?

And I thought the board was ancient and klutzy before. I really don't want to know in what format timestamps are stored to give that effect.

(The standard uses the number of seconds that have passed since 1970-01-01 00:00:00 UTC. That is why errors will usually result in a data around then, +/- a few hours for timeshift).

UBB seems to use some kind of Great-Depression-era computing technology. Which shouldn't surprise us, now should it.

Edit: PPP got the topic. http://pied-piper.ermarian.net/topic/15/2882

Edit2: Spiderweb has got it, too:

http://www.ironycentral.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=15;t=002882

That's right. It's blanked in the index, but the topic itself is fine. Stat-file-rebuilding time, I'd say.

Um, I had posted something after the last post I'm seen as having posted, and nope it's not there... That is quite unusual. This is worse than that time back in the day(long long ago. I think in 03), when we had this big popular topic that suddenly lost most of the stuff in it... It was quite sad since it was a really good topic...

Anyway, I think the server for the forums needs to be worked on or something, cause this is getting out of control.

Maybe this will inspire Dikiyoba to write Episode 4.
This is always good news.
It could be about how the forums are falling apart...
