quote:Don't say the word! There are these words I have started to hate incredivly after having played Battlefield 2 some time. These words are lol, any variations on lol and noob. "Noob" I hate because of the people that use the word, call everybody a noob, while they are the noob. They don't know the difference between "noob" and "newb," I think. I still prefer "newbie" to "newb," which is an unappealing truncation to me. I think I'm going to start using "noobie." -------------------- Slarty vs. Desk • Desk vs. Slarty • Timeline of Ermarian • G4 Strategy Central Posts: 3560 | Registered: Wednesday, November 7 2001 08:00 |

If Diki's stories are any indication, "noob" sure isn't a compliment. And since I'm over 2 digits on my posting, I hopefully qualify for Dikiyoba's writing. It never ceases to amaze me. When a person is self aware enough to realize that their words will continue the torment, they press Add Reply. This means one of several things. They could be trolling, they could enjoy the attention, and they could just not care what is said. Either way, it all adds up to lots of fun for the observers. Thanks Thralni, and Synergy too! -------------------- quote: Posts: 4114 | Registered: Monday, April 25 2005 07:00 |

quote:I don't really care. You see, this is an online forum, it is the internet. Now, if I would see you guys regularly (that is, in person), and not only the product of using a keyboard for approximately 3 minutes, then I would care about it. Nikki: I know she exists. Sorry if I offended you, i didn't mean I think she is garbage, just dat "Garbo" reminds me of "garbage." EDIT: Alex: I like it. No really, I do. Lol isn't bad in theory, but in practice it's applied to the point of meaninglessness. It also tends to associate with genuine and unadulterated linguistic abortions. —Alorael, who holds the distinction of having the lowest ratio of spoken (or written) lines to appearances in Alex's comics. On an unrelated note, Brody is an unnecessary step in making names and accounts have nothing in common. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

It is interesting to see how one word can start up an entire conversation. I wonder if words like fungus , fluffy non fluffs ,etc could start a conversation lol lol lol lol lol lol lol Edit- never mind edit [ Tuesday, February 06, 2007 17:03: Message edited by: Infernal Flamming Muffin ] -------------------- I can transform into almost anything, though not sanity. Anything can start a conversation, but perhaps the better question is, how long could such a conversation last here? My bet is three pages, and that's only if the conversation is quickly thrown off topic. However, if the words were chosen more carefully (for example, religion, or government), a single word could easily start a 30 page topic, given the right encouragement. It depends where the words are used. Fluffy when applied to turtles can go on for days here whereas fungus will probably die in a few posts. Posts: 4643 | Registered: Friday, February 10 2006 08:00 |

Eugenics! —Alorael, who thought for a while and decided that although the word is now rejected by everyone, including those who by all rights should be considered eugenicists, the word still has the power to at least inspire a few pages of flaming. quote:This seems to be a common theme amongst forum denizens. Why on earth does the venue matter? A person's morals stay the same regardless of fear of exposure. If you are implying that the internet allows you the freedom to be the person you are, then so be it. I would hesitate, however, to be your friend if your primary reason for polite behaviour was not a sincere desire to be polite, but instead a compulsion to follow societal norms without regard for your inner being. Perhaps it is only in the darkness of the internet that a person's true self can be seen.
