I am still waiting for "the best game" to arrive. Pretty good and above average with different strengths/weaknesses is how I vote.

It reminds me of Superman vs. Batman for best superhero. Do you like dark, brooding or naive, innocent.

It depends. From a single game standpoint, Geneforge was a better game than Avernum by a smidgen.
However, the Avernum series as a whole is overall probably more enjoyable than the Geneforge series since Avernum actually has a progressive storyline.

They both rock though. Comparing the two is like trying to decide which of two Lexus' is better or Yale vs. Harvard..etc You get the picture.

It's funny to watch the people screaming "spam" at one of only 4 topics on page 1 that are actually relevant to forum's description "A general discussion forum for our company and games."

As for my answer to this question: it's hard to say. I like each Geneforge game taken individulally more than the corresponding Avernum game (with the exception of A2, which is one of my favorite games). However, Avernum is better as a series, because every game is significantly different, while all 3 Geneforges tell the same story of a Shaper apprentice encountering intelligent serviles, etc, etc.
