McCain is going to win the nomination and Bush knows this. Bush does not like McCain and the two of them disagree on many issues. Bush is, however, obligated to endorse McCain for political reasons, such as to create an illusion of union among the Republican party. That 20% of people who actually support Bush must truly believe in the things Bush stands for since they are clearly not supporting him because of his popularity. Such people are hardcore conservatives who will see beyond a politically motivated endorsement and support Huckabee regardless. You might all be quite surprised to discover how little either campaigning or the media influences voter decisions in the end. In summation: the Republicans are screwed.

I am a Tullegolite. We believe in human superiority over creations as well as weaker restriction on shaping. Given the choice between the Shapers and Rebels, we would sooner give up our shaping rights than bow to creation. Thus, I would side with the Shapers.

The Shapers are guilty of genocide, but I can not hold it against them. They make it their business to eliminate threats to their people, much like we in the real world will eliminate certain species of bacteria and virus because of the threats they pose to us. Their intentions are good, and, I'll bet if you asked them, Shapers would most likely regret having to eliminate these species because of all the potential research and discoveries lost through their extinction.

As for Trakovites, you can not compare shaping to nuclear weapons. Do nuclear weapons have the ability to create life? The ability to create new life is infinitely more valuable and far outweighs shaping's destructive powers.

I have some advice. Let the archives burn. With luck, perhaps some on the lame inside jokes and other nonsense will die with them. That way, new people can come to these boards without having to worry about brushing up on worthless arcana before older members take them seriously.

Oh, right. I forgot there was a large number of people on these boards that have no knowledge of the internet or the world or even life itself outside of Dikiyoba's stories.

If I ever use a term like noob, it will always be in reference to the games, not the board. I don't care if someone is bad at posting in an internet forum. I do care if someone is posting here without proper knowledge of the games.

Take Salmon for instance. I'm fairly convinced that guy has never so much as downloaded a demo of one of Spiderweb's games. That's why he's #3 on the list.

While that may be true, there are many more woman in this country than there are blacks. So it doesn't even out...
There is also a significant number of men who vote against her because she is a woman. So it all evens out in the end.
Young people don't vote, and there aren't enough blacks to swing it in favor of Obama either. With Edwards gone, white males will sooner turn to a white women than to a black man. If you want I can look up statistics for you all. Hillary will win.

Fort Avernum

No one came to greet Sss-Kai when he arrived back at Fort Avernum. On his way in, he noticed the fort was painfully understaffed. He would have to remedy that later. He did not find the Lady in her usual place in the main building in the fort. Instead, she had since set herself up outside, so that she could keep an eye on the portal at all times. Sss-Kai approached her, and noticed she was wearing a new dress that did not cover her arms and neck. When he got closer the reason became clear. The portal was beginning to form, and the heat coming off the thing was intense. It made the whole fort a good deal warmer. Sss-Kai noted the strange mage working by the portal as he approached his Lady.

“I sssee much has happened since I have gone. I would never have thought to see that portal open again.” Sss-Kai stole a look at the Lady’s arms, almost perfectly white, even though she was not a native of Avernum, strange. She wore her hair up in funny buns and did not break a sweat, despite the intense heat. Too bad, the slith thought, he would have liked to see what she looked like wet.

Suddenly, the Lady pulled some kind of orb from out of nowhere and held it in front of Sss-Kai’s face, “We’ve made first cross with yond, our surface kin. Behold, the fruit already bourn within.” She laughed at this statement, then held the strange orb even closer to Sss-Kai, who backed off. She simply advanced on him, "Already trade has hence betided nigh. A simply message met with gifts from high.”

Sss-Kai was wary of the alien object in her hand, “Yeah, that’s great, pleassse don’t hold that thing so close.”

Suddenly, the Lady came to a realization, “Hast thou mine son surrendered to the North?”

“Yes. I mean… no? We were successful, m’Lady. Formello now fliesss your banner.”

Lady Calpurnia shook her head, “Without thine spear he may yet know defeat. Adversity shall loom, pray he not fail.”

Formello

Once again, the Lady’s was correct. The initial assault on Fort Draco was a failure. Edward had lost several soldiers in the attempt, and so he had the leader of the vanguard swiftly executed for the defeat. The black armored lord paced across his throne room in Formello. With him were the various military commanders of his small army. He rebuked them. “Incompetent fools! A simple frontal assault on a fortress that has never before withstood a serious attack… and you fail!” Edward sat down in his throne. “My mother will be most displeased. Ha! If she were here, she would have probably thought up a brilliant stratagem and took the fortress without any casualties. Hmm, it falls to me now, then. Must I do everything?” The commanders jumped a little at Edward’s reprimands.

One captain was brave enough to speak up, he was the captain of the Formello guard, “My lord, perhaps if we parleyed with the captain of Draco we could-“

“Silence! If I require your worthless input, I will request it. To parley now would make us seem weak. Tell me, who here knows the local caves the best?” The brave captain raised his hand, “Figures. Prepare a battalion and meet me at the front gates. Even now an ingenious plan takes form within my head.”

-

Edward and his battalion traveled through the Formello caves, looking for something. The captain had no idea what Edward was hoping to find, but he was not so brave as to question the Imperial. Eventually, Edward ordered the men to cease their search in a tiny village in the far Northeastern corner of the Formello caves region.

“Captain, tell me of these lands.”

“Well, these lands were once full of prosperous mining towns. The mines were depleted years ago, and now only a few villages like this remain. It takes good, rugged people to live in lands like this, isolated as they are. They are true Avernites.”

Edward frowned at the pride with which the captain made that last statement. “Just how isolated are they?”

“Completely self-sufficient, my lord. They live out here completely free of contact from the outside world, content in their solitude and all too happy to be away from the chaos that has gripped the land. Truly this is what life in Avernum was meant to be like.”

Edward smiled. “Perfect. I present to you my very first stratagem, and what a brilliant one it is! Formello resists us because they see us as brigands, not as the peacekeepers we truly are. We must show them that we are capable of taking care of our people by destroying a large bandit outpost and parading the heads of the villains throughout the streets of Formello!”

The captain spoke up once again, “Pardon, my lord, but there haven’t been any bandits in the Formello caves in decades. Mayor Illic even managed to keep them at bay after the fall of the Kingdom.”

“What nonsense is this, captain? I see a whole army of bandits right before our eyes!” Edward motioned to the small village.

The captain suddenly understood Edward’s intentions, “You are mad! You can’t possibly mean to…”

“Heads are heads, captain. Formello doesn’t need to know who they came from. I have the people’s safety in mind, you see. These few die so that this entire region may continue to live in peace. Fort Draco will see that our intention are good and they will have no choice but to-”

“I would sooner die than take part in such an insidious plan!”

Edward advanced on the man, “My good captain-“

The captain put his hand on his blade when he saw Edward coming towards him. Edward paused, infuriated that the captain would do such a thing. He grabbed his own weapon and both drew their steel. Edward parried the captain first blow, then, with his massive steel tipped boot, he stomped down hard on the captain’s kneecap, shattering it. The captain cried in pain and fell to his knees, causing even more pain. Edward disarmed him, knocked off his helmet and gripped the captain by the hair.

“First one to step forward and slit this man’s throat is the new captain of Formello!” It took a few good, long moments before a large man with a thick beard stepped forward to do the deed. Edward smiled as the blood sprayed on both of them. Edward let the former captain fall to the ground, “Good work. Commence the ‘quelling’ of these bandits, captain.”

“Aye, m’lord. What of the children? Little heads are not the same as big ones.”

“We can leave no witnesses, captain. They must be dealt with as well. There are lots of abandoned mine shafts around here, yes? Be creative.”

“Aye m’lord.”

For the Republicans, John McCain is their best bet, as the others are simply not electable. I hate religious politicians too, but you already knew I was a bigot. I don't like church in my state, and some of these candidates need to be taken out back and shot for trying to force their morals on others. What really annoys me is that McCain, a great man whom I will be voting for, will probably pick Huckabee as his running mate, which will really be shooting himself in the foot as far as collecting independent votes goes. He will not win the presidency.

For the Democrats, it really is a win-win situation with Hillary and Obama. If Obama is the nominee, he'll probably pick someone lame as his VP, like Richardson. Hillary, on the other hand, would have to pick Obama, because the man is a movement. I like the latter ticket best, and in my expert Imperial opinion, Hillary will be the next President of the United States.

Vlad went by his last name now. He was known as Prophet Vortigern. For countless years he had been the faithful prophet of Nalyd, doing his best to remind the world of the sorrow and agony that was a part of its very essence. Vortigern could barely remember his mortal life now, only that it was so excruciatingly tragic that he now felt no remorse for the terrible things he did in his unlife. As a lich, he found himself constantly beset by adventurers seeking to fight him in the name of good. This was Rune, however, a land where good rarely prevailed. Yes, it was a great time to be evil in this age of darkness that had engulfed the land.

All was not well for the Prophet, however. His acolytes had dwindled over the years. The chapel had fallen into disrepair and now he was living in squalor. Worst of all, Nalyd had ceased giving him visions. The prophet soon found himself with no company whatsoever, except for, of course, his zombie companion.

Trinculo's body had been ravaged over the years, and by the time Vortigern had the ability to resurrect him, his corpse was beyond repair, and only a witless zombie had resulted. The prophet sat back in his creaky chair and brooded, "What do you think, old friend? Is our time coming to an end?"

Zombie Trinculo looked up at the prophet with eyeless sockets, "Grahhhhhhh." Bits of his cheek flaked off.

Vortigern smiled at his old friend. He looked to his right and noticed that rats were eating the rotten fruit offerings left for his god. With an impossibly fast motion, Vortigern grabbed one of the rats and squeezed it in his palm until it stopped moving. He then threw it to Trinculo, who shambled over to the dead rodent, picked it up, and bit into the thing. "Make that one last, old friend. I suspect that soon, even the rats will abandon this place."

The prophet sank deep into his slightly moldy chair, praying that perhaps today he would just die for good. How much longer would he be forced to continue with this torturous existence? Suddenly Vortigern felt a divine presence. It was not the gloomy presence of his god Nalyd, but a more offensive one. This presence was powerful and cruel, and it sent a shiver up his exposed spine. "It can not be..." Vortigern had felt a similar presence before, back when he was alive. "Divine TM, is that you?"

"Hardly." A figure stepped out of the shadows. "TM had the good sense to flee this world long ago, way before you were even born. You see, it was, in fact, I, that watched over you back when you were alive, not TM." The prophet got a good look at the god standing before him. He wore black and red robes, held a huge spear, and wore a strange hat with a huge red feather.

The lich rose, "Well, who are you, then?" Trinculo rose to follow his master, but his left leg finally gave out and snapped halfway off, and the undead Least fell face first onto the filthy tile floor.

The god covered his nose at the smell. "It matters not. This world is ending. The gods are dying off. Nalyd himself has already passed into oblivion." Vortigern briefly wondered if he should mourn his fallen god, but then decided it would be sort of ironic to mourn the god of sorrow.

“Damn, that bastard finally gets the peace of death while I’m left here to wallow in filth? Figures.”

The mysterious god before him laughed, “Actually, he died trillions of years from now.” Vortigern was totally confused. “Don’t try to understand, only the gods can know the true way of things. In a way, the universe ended centuries ago, and yet it ends in the future as well, and it is even coming to an end as we speak. Such is the nature of things when one is speaking of the end of a universe.”

Vlad looked down at the crippled Trinculo and shrugged. “I’m really having a hard time giving a damn. What are you doing here now?”

The god paced around the room, "I refuse to die with this pathetic universe. While the other cowards of the pantheon may surrender to inevitable destruction, I instead chose to move on. There are other universes, you see, and I intend to make them my own. I have chosen life. I am here to invite you to come with me."

"Uh, you do realize that your talking about 'choosing life' with a lich, right? We find that kind of thing a bit offensive-"

"Silence! Do not question me! I am all powerful! Behold!" The god waved his hand, and Vortigern suddenly felt horrible pain all over his body. Physical pain, not the emotional pain he had known all these years. Really, it felt great by comparison. Vortigern screamed in ecstasy as he shed his undead form. Underneath, the soft pink skin of the living was revealed. When it was all over, the only thing that remained of Vortigern's unlife was his torn, filthy, gory robes that he had been wearing since time unmemorable. Figures that the god wouldn’t bother to restore them. All powerful… yeah right. Jerk.

Still, Vlad gazed at his new body, immensely pleased, "Well, I-" Before he could say anything, he jumped in pain as Trinculo attempted to take a bite out of his delicious, fleshy ankles. "Ow! You little **** tottering *** **** beslubering piece of **** ****. I picked the mold out of your skull every week for a hundred years and this is how you repay me? ****! **** flobbing ***** **** motley **** codpiece!"

The god’s features twisted into might have been a smile, "There's the Vlad I knew and loved." With another wave of his perfect hand, Trinculo was alive again as well. "There, all is as it should be. Now, we must be going, this world's time grows short."

Trinculo was totally confused, he had no memory beyond being killed by Ahonar centuries ago. “Uh, master… what’s going on?”

Vlad filled him in, “You know, hundreds of years as an evil lich, restored to life by a god, messing around with your corpse while you were dead, the usually, really.” Trinculo looked disappointed at first, but shrugged it off like he always did. Such was life with Vlad… and apparently death as well. Vlad looked to the God again. “So you’re taking me with you to another universe, eh? What’s the catch?”

The god stood face to face with Vlad, “You speak to me as if I were you’re equal. As far as that is from the truth, I respect your arrogance. Tell me, has your years in service to Nalyd taught you the error of idleness? If you had the chance to travel to a new world and exploit it to your hearts content, to break its will, to make it yours, would you do it? Or would you drink yourself into a mindless stupor once again, wasting your glorious potential?”

Vlad shook his head, “Wine lost its sweetness for me long ago. It is now as bitter as my heart. Too long have I lived in the service of others, TM, Nalyd. I want to live for me now.”

“Excellent!” The god raised his mighty spear, and the very air warped around the trio. “Then we go! New worlds, ripe for the taking, will bow before you! Your name will be known and feared as it should be! We go!”

Trinculo jumped up into his master's arms. "What's going to happen now, master? Where will he take us?"

The god was deep in concentration, so Vlad whispered in Trinculo’s ear, “Wherever we end up, the women had better not be ugly there. I really need to someone to **** all up on my **** through **** all night long, you know? Little Vladimir rotted off like a hundred years ago and I can’t wait to try out my shiny new one.” Trinculo shook his head and smiled. His master was still his old self.

With a flash of light, Vladimir Vortigern, X-High Priest of TM and X-Prophet of Nalyd, was now an X-resident of the Rune universe.
