... My tactic worked. I knew that most people wouldn't stand a newbie getting a default win! :P I'm still in, and will be making a quick IC in a minute. Expect the Dominion to be more cooperative, now that it's getting its butt kicked. For the time being, I will pretend that the Army of the Bright Star and the Karnold Ilse League makes no major action. If need be, I can play those factions as NPCs if the player's can't do the RP anymore. And there's nothing wrong with not being able to participate in the RP anymore. Just post and say so (thanks to Thralni). MISEDIT: Never mind this edit. -------------------- (Oh yeah. Sig change.) "Finally!" Demetrius smiled. His secret plan had finally come to fruitition. The fact that the Rashasi had decided to attack now just made him all the stronger. He had found the secret of the Red Star. The tigers were all connected to each other telepathically. Unfortunately for them, that link was the only thing about them susceptible to magic. In a couple of hours, his sorcerors would hack into that link, and the Dominion would have its own unstoppable army with which to take over the world! Bwuhahahahaha!!! EDIT: I need to remember this: next time I want immediate results, I'll just be annoying. :P -------------------- I am, of course, willing to edit this post out, provided that the players in this RP actually show some interest in it! If not, well, I am perfectly happy to win by default. [ Sunday, April 30, 2006 17:25: Message edited by: Dintiradan ] Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

Drew: A number of people in Darfur might disagree. I understand and mostly agree with your philosophy that we should 'teach a man to fish, rather than give him a fish'. However, you can't blindly apply this to every single situation. People in the Sudan aren't going to care about incentives; they're in the midst of a famine. Perhaps I'm reading these posts wrong, but I see a lot of them proposing a single, 'nutshell' way of viewing domestic and foreign aid. You've got to assess each situation separately. You wouldn't continue giving a group of uneducated people free supplies, just as you wouldn't tell a group of people after a disaster to pick themselves up and get back to work. -------------------- (Maybe a bit of a conversation killer. Oh well, there's still a lot to talk about.) Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

quote:Glaurung. Father of all Dragons, overwhelming presence, and servant to Morgoth (the granddaddy of all Evil Overlords). Unfortunately for him, he picked a fight with a deity. The Platinum Dragon wins. However, with his dying breath, Glaurung informs Bahamut that he's been getting jiggy with his amnesiac sister. Bahamut commits suicide. Bahamut vs. Tiamut would have been more interesting. EDIT: Ah, I was talking about Glaurung from the Silmarillion and Bahamut from D&D. Apparently, no one else is. Sigh... I just thought of something: maybe everything should be decided by Deathmatch. Just think: place the ten candidates for the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada into one arena, then let them loose on each other! (Dryden would win, being the only one who brought along protective equipment.) -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: I will make the main entrance to my fortress standard-sized. While elaborate 60-foot high double-doors definitely impress the masses, they are hard to close quickly in an emergency. Just a thought: the convention of making TALKING_STATE link to a dialog node is just that, a convention. You could give all the enemies a special version of basicnpc that does whatever special thing you want to do in TALKING_STATE. I haven't tested this, though, it's just a thought. -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: I will not rely entirely upon "totally reliable" spells that can be neutralized by relatively inconspicuous talismans. Perhaps a re-write of 'basicnpc.txt' is in order. I wonder how you'd implement it; maybe in attack state, if it can't see the party, it would open the nearest door. -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: I will not employ devious schemes that involve the hero's party getting into my inner sanctum before the trap is sprung. 12 MST, right? I should be able to make this one. I'm at this lovely point between school and a summer job, so I have a lot of free time now. EDIT: Oh, right. HTML. IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: I will see to it that plucky young lads/lasses in strange clothes and with the accent of an outlander shall REGULARLY climb some monument in the main square of my capital and denounce me, claim to know the secret of my power, rally the masses to rebellion, etc. That way, the citizens will be jaded in case the real thing ever comes along. Java, Perl, Basic, and enough of C and Pascal to understand the basics. And AvernumScript, of course. Wait... Fluent in English and I know enough of Quebecois to read it and be able to understand and be understood in a conversation (close enough to French). I can usually get the gist of a Dutch conversation, if they speak slowly. EDIT: Typo. Oops. I was confusing milk can and butter churn. I meant milk can. At least the two are somewhat related. The idea is to put water and calcium carbide into the can and put on the lid. Then, ignite the resulting gasses through the little hole, blowing the lid into the next area code. -------------------- Posts: 1509 | Registered: Tuesday, January 10 2006 08:00 |

If no else is going to post by tomorrow, I'm going to, despite the fact that I have already done so recently. If you no longer have the time for this RP, say so, instead of just disappearing. Soon, I'll have no choice but start pretending that some factions have just been sucked into non-existence. -------------------- Oops, almost forgot. BUMP!!! What's this? We can do more than one stereotype? Excellent. -------------------- The Silent Assassin wishes to convey his displeasure in not appearing in this topic yet. To clarify: 'Concentration camps' is a vague term. It means a camp where many people are held in a small area (hence high concentration). It could be used for death camps. It could also be used for a POW or civilian internment camp. For some strange reason, I'm reminded of an Animal Farm quote altered slightly. EDIT: By YAP: quote:Ummm... what? -------------------- All opinions are equal, but some opinions are more equal than others. JV did promise that A5 would have a different type of premise than A1-4 did. No more save-the-world-from-the-supervillians. Still, I can't see anything beyond A5. And since I never got any of the Geneforges, and so don't mind recycled graphics... A4 > A1-BoA > E1-BoE -------------------- (Dodges barrage of rotten fruit.) I'm going to be a good little Albertan and endorse the oil sands. I do realize that petroleum isn't the most eco-friendly choice, but until an alternative is fully developed, we might as well consider using the greatest oil deposit in North America. The problem is just getting at it. Oops. Now we're probably going to be invaded, right? -------------------- IF I EVER BECOME AN EVIL OVERLORD: If my supreme command center comes under attack, I will immediately flee to safety in my prepared escape pod and direct the defenses from there.
