Well, since I haven't been around for the previous ones: I first came across Exile 3 on a demo cd. It was in the latter half of the 90s. Long story short: bought the Exile trilogy cd, liked it, have bought every Spidweb game since (well, except BoE). Posts: 353 | Registered: Monday, January 9 2006 08:00 |

Well, I think the reason for no gained levels might be no.1. A party with such a high level would gain very little experience from the battles in the scenario, and I think the experience from the quests is reduced by party level as well. This would obviously lead to very few levels gained - or in your case, none at all. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Posts: 353 | Registered: Monday, January 9 2006 08:00 |

Hmm. -Are you playing with a god-party or are their levels around the recommendation (I think ~20)? -Does this happen in other scenarios as well, or is it only with this one? -Have you informed Smoo about the problem by email or private message? (He fell victim to conscription and might not see this thread at all.) -And finally, if you're playing on Windows, keep a copy of a save game in the scenario handy (if you can), because Smoo might want to have a look at it when he can. Do you mean you never gained levels during the scenario, or that once you finished it, the levels reverted to their old values? Either way, this one is really weird, and I myself haven't encountered the problem (although I haven't been able to finish the scenario yet due to the second thing you mentioned). The second point is something I'm familiar with - in a way. I did get the quest to kill the kitties and free the slaves before actually doing it, but afterwards Beohram (in fort Nepharim) is supposed to have returned to his office, but instead he's still drinking with his buddies in the dinner hall. I'm glad you found your way around this though, since I still haven't. Better try your trick when I get around to it. I also have to agree with you on the scenario being excellent. It's a clear improvement for Smoo from his Backwater days. Posts: 353 | Registered: Monday, January 9 2006 08:00 |

Thanks Kel, it worked like a charm. Heh, it seems that the piece of code I posted earlier was the culprit (obviously, since that's where the crash always occurred). Well, back to the gaming. Posts: 353 | Registered: Monday, January 9 2006 08:00 |

You mean the message all of the people above are speaking about? No, it really, really was removed. ...And the message could only be considered a violation in a very broad sense. It was like mentioning that some people (somewhere in Siberia) might consider pirating Windows instead of paying for it. Edit: And while we're on the topic of whether TM is a 'social parasite' or a valuable member of the community, I definitely go for the latter. The place would be awfully boring without certain people who behave out of line and get banned every now and then. Actually, I think your best bet is piercing crystals (the green crystals that can be used to dispel barriers). I'm almost positive there were one or two lying around the school. And the house Karen wants you to break into is one of the private homes in the northwest of town. More specifically, the one with the barriers in the rear. Personally, I'm against time limits, be they essential to the story line or not. I like to explore every possible dark corner in every town and dungeon, and if there's someone who tells me that I might not have time for it, it really spoils everything for me. Mainly because, if there's a time limit, I speed through the scenario, not paying any attention to possible distractions - no matter how much time I have left. Wow. You've put a lot more effort into it, than a scenario would require, but I guess it benefits the community. I skimmed through it, and one little thing caught my eye: in the pronunciation section you had quote:I guess this shouldn't be? Oh, and one thing of interest: Have you studied English at university level as well, or do all these linguistic terms from your Greek studies? Posts: 353 | Registered: Monday, January 9 2006 08:00 |

quote:A seemingly abandoned town far to the north-west, beyond Wainscotting (can't remember the name). There was a bar and a bartender. I seem to remember it going so that you had something to drink, then noticed the bartender become a Rakshasha, and the entire town filled with them. Then good times were had by all. And BoE is older than Avernum. EDIT: Damnit, that's what you get for double-checking your spelling. The way I've always thought of the efreet is, like you said, that they are fire genies (djinn/jinn). Therefore, even though they are mystical creatures, they aren't demons per se. (I did vote yes on the efreet being classified as demons however, since having them as a class of their own seems kind of dumb.) And the Rakshashi are, the way I see it, basically very nasty, magical cats. Their behavior is actually very similar to mind flayers in D&D. They value other humanoids only as slaves and tend to keep to themselves. So a definite 'no' on them being demons - just classify them as feline. Oh, and I've never read TM's writings on them, so I can't really say anything about that. Posts: 353 | Registered: Monday, January 9 2006 08:00 |

Aw, crud. Well, I sent the mail. Unfortunately, it only occurred to me later, that maybe the save file would have been smaller if zipped. Turned out it would have. About 98 percent smaller. Sorry about that. Posts: 353 | Registered: Monday, January 9 2006 08:00 |

Yes, all the graphics are present, and can be opened with other programs. I tried re-downloading the scenario, but that didn't work either. Posts: 353 | Registered: Monday, January 9 2006 08:00 |

Nope, didn't work. I tried approaching the problem from all directions, but still nothing. I noticed that all the NPCs disappear from the area right before I get the error message. EDIT: Having dug around, I found this bit of code: Could the problem be with moving to the new town? Since the designer has gone AWOL from the boards, I'm directing my plead of assistance to anyone who can help: In Magus of Cattalon, in the town of ye olde Fahrango, once I've defeated the giants, identified Polonius and talked to the sarge, I'm apparently supposed to get a bump on the noggin. The problem is, at that point, I get the following message from the game (?): "Unhandled Exception: c0000005, At address: 004492b8". After this message, the game crashes, and I've found no way to go stop this from happening. Any help, maybe through modifying the script? I'm using Windows XP, in case it matters. Oh, and even though I'm officially a newbie here, I hope that we can skip the bit about my sanity and the door. I have been lurking here for a good time now.
