Who was this Ashby-supporter #2385? I cannot bring myself to recognize him.

And yes, I have been reading too much Anne Rice.

A4 Windows 99% cpu time in Tech Support

I haven't had time to actually play the game yet, but I did a test, and my cpu is pushed to 100 % usage during A4 as well. I didn't see any sluggishness, however. Nothing beyond what geneforge displays anyway.

How is the sluggishness displayed? Does the game actually take time to react to your commands, or does it only display a kind of "lazy" movement all around? If it's the latter, then I believe all is running as well as it can.

My system is very similar to that of Dexter (2,2 GHz AMD64, 2 GB RAM, good graphics card, Windows XP SP2).

I had mixed feelings when I first heard of Avernum being made - especially after Nethergate which was a completely new thing among Spidweb games. A remake, the exact same plot with better graphics? I wasn't very thrilled about playing the same series over again.

Nevertheless, Avernum 1 really did manage to improve on the original. The plot was easier to follow, and dialogue simpler (I never did like the "ask about..." option in exile dialogue). Also, the graphics had their own charm, different from that of the Exile series, and the height differences helped add to the atmosphere.

So: 8,3

And now, for the real reason of my post:

Dude, you totally ripped my name.

...Grizzly R. Bear? I understand.

Also, since posting on this thread I've received one new rating, changing my average rating from 1,6 to 1,92. How is the weighted score calculated anyway? No three ratings return an average of 1,92 - are some members' ratings worth more than the others'?

Edit: In response to Salmon's edit above.
A hypothetical: Something I post earns me the ire of a sensitive pre-teen. He gives me one star. Because of this, in order to get a respectable average of three stars I would need multiple five-star ratings? Bummer.

Okay, that last edit didn't go down well. Just got another one star. I'll shut up now.

Nitpicking are we, Aran?

No, of course he means explosion. You get an explosion in a bag, then you take it to the mages fortifications and place the explosion on the wall, thereby creating a hole in it. It's just that easy. :P

Oh, I don't know. It might be interesting to see who rates who. It gives opportunity for confrontation as well.

My rating for instance came right after I got a little too involved with the E.D.F. That in mind, I'm quite sure I know who gave me the one star rating, but the two star rating is a bit of a mystery (though I have my suspicions).

Oh, and changing the votes would be real great - it'd make the ratings much more mobile.

Well, if not useful then at least amusing. Would this function only apply to the current month, or would it be possible to see earlier title changes as well?

Oh wait, you have to put the custom title changes in by hand, don't you? At least judging by the lack of for example Alec's and Slarty's titles.

Um, I know this involves TM, and therefore the CoC is applied very loosely, but still: doesn't this constitute "Any communication that is intended to harass, belittle, humiliate, threaten or cause embarrassment to a fellow member"? And on a very large scale at that.

Maybe the U.S. versions of Windows are more multi-cultural? The point is, I can't see the kanji, and I think what I suggested above might work.

Doesn't work. I'm using Firefox, and all I get out of TM's signature is question marks. Which is all well and good, since I wouldn't understand it anyway, the barbarian that I am.

An Asian alphabet pack needs to be installed on the OS as well.

t Kraken: I think the Windows install CD has the language packs you need on it. Go to the "Regional and Language Options" in your control panel. At least I have the option to install said alphabet under "languages".

Okay, so just to make sure I understood correctly:

- You picked up the wand by the blasted hole in the wall of the mage's tower.
- You used it in the room with the lasers and stairs going upwards.
- No effect.

If this is the case, I'm completely stumped. Apparently Smoo won't be around 'til next weekend, so unless someone else has an idea, I guess you'll have to wait.

One more thing: do you use windows? If so, keep a save file handy - Smoo might want to have a look at it.
