Erm, at the risk of inciting wrath, strong magic, average shaping, weak battle skills.

Strong shaping, medium magic, and weak battle skills is the standard shaper.

I never thought about the other creations being delicious... Maybe they are.

Vlish were specifically made to be disgusting so nobody and nothing would ever eat them.

**Pacification Vlish Mode**

Play nice. Please. We are all aware of the fact that Macs are vastly superiour. There is no need to incite another dreaded flamewar.

The last time this happened people brought Cryoas and Fyoras and Dryaks. There was a lot of ashes and puddles and entrails everywhere. Took the serviles weeks to scrub all the noob juice off the walls.

Let those using Windows remain loyal to the Shaper cause. The rebelion will crush them shortly. Our enemies shall talk themselves to death!

The turn-based combat system is still stylized in nature, of course, with a fair amount of vital tactics revolving around artificial engine features. But overall the new system is a more reasonable stylization of fantasy combat.

Of course you can't actually play an Agent since you are a rebel, but there is a comparable class. I'm not sure how to play it now, since I used to rely on a lot of tricks that don't work any more.

Yeah. The unkindest cut of all.

Table tops, with to much mountain dew and pizza, and funny dice with to many sides. Stacks of paper. Maps. Little pewter figurines. "You are being attacked by a hobgoblin, a gnoll, and six goblins. Prepare to defend your selves!" "Magic missile! Magic Missile!" The dice would make an awful racket.

Oh, and if you ever see a b coming at your @, run you fools! This foe is beyond any of you!

And keep a pair or so of Vlish handy. Very little can stand up for long against a pack of determined Vlish. Can't move, can't act, can't attack, can't hurt you or threaten you. Vlish are the supremely powerful creation. And this has been well established. In G3, they are grossly overpowered.

And the heel remark... :P

More than Daze, Terror and Dominate are staples in my arsenal.

Summoning is actually a viable tactic. Early on the beta testing for AVIV I found that a summoned army of cave slimes and shades backed by blessing, hasting, etc, was more than enough to steamroll the game, allowing you to survive some encounters far earlier than you should have. Like the crazy necromancer just outside Formello, you can stand around the corner and keep summoning shades till he dies. Later, as you get more powerful summons, and better buffs like prismatic shield, you can cause a lot of wreck and ruin on your enemies.

This is even better when backed by archery. Your characters are never in a moments danger.

Yes, you should carry every fish you find. And stick one in your ear if possible.

Rentar is only trying to destroy Avernum to make way for an underground bypass you know.

Three priests and one mage was a complete hoot.

Summoned a lot of shades I did. Sent SWARMS of summons at mine enemies. Buffed summons, with shields and blessings and what not.

Nothing could resist me for long. Shades destroy pretty much everything.

Mage was practically useless near the endgame though. He mostly just unlocked stuff or casted the occasional shield. The priests pretty much vaporised everything on the screen or swarmed stuff with summons and then burned stuff down.

In AVIV, I hate to say it, but the mages got the short end of the stick. They suck. They have power in the beginning, but fizzle out midgame, just when the priest is gaining their real power.

Actually, my parties that had the luck boots and higher luck tended to get waveblades from those very Myrmidons to compleat the quest involved with them. In some of my parties I ran through the game neglecting luck for other things, I didn't get anything at all from them.

Other things I noticed. My parties with higher luck scores got more undead dust from killing those powerful skeletons. Lots of jewelry, necklaces, gold rings, etc. More cash too. (As a side effect from selling all those junky little gold rings)

Luck eventually became a skill that I actually spend some points in to just like I do in the Geneforge games, simply because the small effects are noticeable over time. More money means more training, more spells, better weapons, and making life easier in general.

I never really thought about doing detailed tests, I had always assumed that AVIV uses the same luck engine as Geneforge. And you should ALWAYS pump up your luck in Geneforge. Insanely powerful but amazingly subtle skill.
