Ed: What does that have to do with anything?

Dikiyoba: that's all right. this is even better! Go on, this is very good.

"breln" = noob in Nephilian, from this moment on (don't try to look for it in the dictionary, it won't be there anyway).

The most ambitious scenario in Blades of Avernum

I could repeat everything the others just said, thereby making this a useless post, or I'd rather add something new to the discussion.

It is difficult to not start raising your hopes and not let everything slip out of your control when making a scenario. When I started mine, I had thought of a small scenario, had thought of all the plot, and look where I'm now. At the verge of Alpha-testing completion, but as this scenario is probably twice as big as what I had aimed for, I'm getting lazy, and lazier all the time. Simple lesson: a large scenario is a pain in the back.

That said, if you make such a big scenario, there is almost no room for other scenarios. i don't know if anybody thought of this, but it is the first thing thatjumped to my mind. BoA was made so people could make their own scenarios and storys after what happened in Avernum 3 in valorim. If somebody would make a whole new enormous scenario, in which everything is said from avernum 3 to 4, there is no room for smaller scenarios in which certain things are told. I specifically mean scenario linked to the races (Nephilim, humans and Sliths) and Avernum itself. I was planning on making (after the current one is released) a scenario consisitng of two parts, in which the player travels with nephilim to their hometown (or village), trying to give the Nephilim a history and so on of their own. this wouldn't be really possible anymore with "Avernum 3.5"

Please, Dikiyoba? can I ask you a favor? in act three, will you give me a role in which somebody tries to net let me hurt Eddie? You see, he tries to make me like him again, but then he posts this topic, in which he plays the "wounded puppy" and I'm the evil landlord type of person. Then he wants me to like me.

Eddie: posting this topic in which you ask me to like you, is not the way to go. You know what I want you to do. if you forgot, read a PM. Any more tries to insult me, even when mild, will result in the loss of your head, and possibly some more limbs, if I get the chance.

So dikiyoba: I hope you take my question in consideration. I would be honored.

Eddie: grow up.

EDIT: Eddie, can we talk on MSN? that will be probably the last talk, but I feel you didn't get the picture. You see, you managed to really hurt me (wow, how surprising), and you probably don't really know why. I'll tell you, but you could use some pain killers, a helmet and perhaps a thicker jumper while talking to me. Yes, that was a kind of threat. You may shout at me, but that will make thinsg worse. Just talk to me, and I hope you will remain standing afterwards.

saunders: great. I couldn't have said it any better. Ed, listen to saunders. that is one thing you will have to learn.

New Town Scripts in Blades of Avernum Editor

the twonscript error you mentioned (tried to call a nonexisting town script state), is given when the game tries to acces a certain state but can't find it. this doesn't mean that something is wrong with the script, but with the scenario .bas file. It means that a special rectangle has the wrong number declared to run a specific state in a townscript. So, if you have a special rectangle calling for state 34, but you don't have one, it will display that error.

the error "no body declared" means that you forgot the line "body;" in your script. it should read:

begintalkscript;

variables;

int i,j,k,r1,choice;

body; //You forgot this line

begintalknode 1;
//put here all the other stuff

Or we don't have the same sense of humor (as I noticed with almost half of the SW members).

i hope Nathan Ashby will live hapilly ever after, end may not end up sick, dishonored, battered to death or simply kissed to death by Britney spears. may he not end up in that big microwave down in the deep vaults of earth (Avernum?) but up in the sky, where everything is white, pure, and far to clean.

Lets sing a song, in memory of nathan ashby, who so promptly left the boards. May he rest is peace.

Amen

I probably wrote because of the "Gotterdamerung" of wagner I'm listening just now. it always depresses me.

Okay... thanks. I found out how to do it with the graphics. however, could a Mac user make me a .meg file of "falling stars"? i tried two times, both times resulting in a system freeze of my Imac. If somebody could do that for me, I would be most grateful.

I would like to play some of the BoE scenarios. So far I downloaded Of Alcritas: Tomorrow, an apology, falling stars, redemtion, of good and evil. Of TM the inn of blades and bandits, and the four chicken plague scenarios of "brave sir Robin." I also dowloaded the northen kingdom prologuw od kelandon. i have been dying to know what that is, for a long time now.

I would like advice on which scenarios to play. I espacially would like to play history of Avernum related scenarios, in which certain things about monsters, mages and the like are explained.

I already thought of playing one of the easy scenarios of Alcritas, followed by the chicken plague scenarios.

EDIT: now wait a sec... I understand how to add the scenarios at BoA, but how exactly do I do that in BoE? Should I just drag out all important files (.exs and .meg files) and drop them in the exile scenarios folder? And how do I make a .meg file when its not included with the scenario? Just dump the whole graphic, with all small icons in it, in one resource file?

This reminds me of a discussion I had yesterday, and it is not entirely off-topic. About having a goal in life. that is quite a problem, a goal, I mean. people generally feel two things about a goal, depending on their present situation. With having a goal, this means:

Reached your goalNot reached your goalNow, if we take a person in his fifties, then he will feel in these two ways, in the same order a sabove, about his goal:
He will be depressed because he reached his goal, and can't find anything else to do.He will hate himself and be depressed because he didn't manage to achieve his goal.(Note that this can also occur on earlier ages, but it will start at an age of about 35.)
Is it good to have a goal in life then? or will you be depressed because you feel bored and don't know what to do. As I see it, in all manners, a person could become depressed, no matter what he does. Of course, some people have a normal life, retire, and live happily ever after.

I may be taking this wrong, but I'm sensing that you think it's somewhere between difficult and impossible for a person to have any pride in the life they've lived. Either that, or this went in a circle.
Anybody else read this and get a deep sense of defeatism?

Read the last sentence of my post again please. There are of course people who are happy, even though they reached/didn't reach their goal. Some people reach their goal, and immeditaly set a new one. Then there are people to whome my post applies, and the there are people who just don't have a goal, simply dragging themselves through life (this seems imposible to me). I myself have at the moment maybe twenty goals outstanding simultaineously, and it depresses me a bit that I won't reach about ten of them.
This all boils down to one question: what is the meaning of life. i have no idea, and maybe I don't want to know.
