Okay so I can't quite figure out what's causing the dialog in my scenario to go crazy for some players (at least SkeleTony and DreamGuy). The problem is, I've been told, that the NPCs give all the responses when they're only supposed to give half of them. Here are two examples of the dialog script: begintalknode 19; state = 19; nextstate = -1; question = "Greetings Mahrmmrrh. What are you doing here?"; text1 = "_No no. Put more stress on the 'mmrr' and to answer your question I work for Master Tybonson. I am his servant or butler, whichever he needs more._"; text2 = "_I see that the nephil in your group has taught you the proper stress on nephilm names. But to answer your question, I work for Master Tybonson. I am his servant or butler whichever he needs more._"; code = if (species_in_party(2) == 0) remove_string(2); else remove_string(1); break; begintalknode 28; state = -1; nextstate = 29; question = "Mayor"; text1 = "There are two people sitting round a large desk in this small room. The first is the captain of the troops in Sattle, the second is the mayor. She is in her forties and is currently looking exhausted."; text2 = "_Mm... looks like we got visitors Bobby. Greetings and welcome to our village, although currently not as peaceful as it used to be._ She gestures at the maps and parchments on the desk."; text3 = "They are maps of the surrounding areas. _I am mayor Worrington and this is captain Remington. What can we do for you?_"; text4 = "_Mm... looks like we got... By the gods! Bobby look!_ She points at a slith in your group. _What are you doing here? How did you get in here._ The captain speaks. _Calm down Evelyn. I'm sure this is not our enemy._"; text5 = "The mayor is still sitting around her desk."; action = INTRO; code = if (species_in_party(3) == 0) remove_string(4); else { remove_string(2); remove_string(3); } I'm beginning to think that maybe the problem is with SkeleTony's and DreamGuy's version of the scenario (their download was corrupted or something. ) If anyone knows what the problem could be, I'm all ears. spy.there: I'm not sure why the graphics aren't working. Are you sure the graphic files are in the same folder as the remote.bas - file? quote:- I have no idea what I did to cause the item-window to disappear. This only happened once? Which fight? - Crud, I really thought I fixed that one. It really IS suppose to show only one of the texts and it usually does that. Hmmm... Did the character you tried to train have some levels of skill in priest spell? - I'm clueless once more. I think one of the beta-testers had the same kind of problem, but this never happened when I was playing. Same thing with the game slowing down. Never happened to me. Me saying this isn't helping, I know. ef: Rest assured, in the future versions the rebels will NOT be coming to help you if you kill them. Even if you spared their leader. I'm pretty sure you met Griffith, now that I think about it. He's the one that gave you the "Permit to Leave". You did get that right? -------------------- These are my scenarios. Probably can't talk to the vampire about the amulet. The vampire won't help unless he knows he's safe, meaning the player must talk to the mayor before the vampire helps the player out. I assume that when you said nothing happened this means that the wizard didn't go anywhere. If this is the case you might want to try this: If you edited the code a little you could try showing the amulet to Bearworth again. Open the t01Grimsondlg.txt - file and find the question "What can you tell me about this amulet?" Just put // in front of the condition above the question and you should be able to show the amulet to Bearworth as many times as you like. Make sure you're not standing at the doorway in the town hall when you show the amulet to the wizard. This may cause an error, which I'll try to fix. Hope this will help. -------------------- These are my scenarios. I may have too much free time but I really don't care. The problem is that the vampire won't make the demon amulet unless the player has talked with the mayor. So if DreamGuy can't talk with the mayor he can't get the demon amulet. Now I suppose he could kill the vampire and steal his book and show it to Bearworth. This is, by the way, the only way you can get the demon amulet from Bearworth. Oh and the papers the mayor gives you are a bit useless. You can, for example, show them to all of the captains in the towns. And ef: You never found Griffith? Not that it matters but he's supposed to be in the barracks opposite of the warehouses in the first town. And about the rebels: How did you inadvertently killed them? quote:- You probably WON'T be able to finish the scenario if you don't have the demon amulet and you probably don't have it since you haven't been able to talk to the mayor. If you edited the code a little you could try showing the amulet to Bearworth again. Open the t01Grimsondlg.txt - file and find the question "What can you tell me about this amulet?" Just put // in front of the condition above the question and you should be able to show the amulet to Bearworth as many times as you like. As for the rest of the bugs you pointed out: - The altar and the slith hill should work properly in the latest version. - I guess I'll just remove the "like the wizard told you part" from the rune node in the secret passage. - That problem with Bearworth is still unfixed, but I'll add a way to bully the door guard to let you see the mayor if you've done what vampire asks. This doesn't fix the problem but it's a way of going around it. - Ah, so someone else's Sattle dialog is also buggy. If you could tell what you did before entering Sattle, what towns you visited etc. then maybe I could pinpoint the problem. - The messenger should be in the most south-western house, but obviously for you he isn't there. - About the sculptor and the book-thing with the vampire: Whoops! I'll fix those. - And if you'll download the latest version at BoAC, you'll enjoy a more typo-free demon fortress. quote:He can be a bit rude when he's well, can't he? :D -------------------- These are my scenarios. Okay GoatMan as I previously said I believe I fixed that one. This does not help your situation, however, since I was hoping that I could fix all the problems reported before sending an updated version to BoAC. Alas, I forfeit. I cannot figure out what's causing the dialog to go crazy in Sattle, reported by SkeleTony or what is causing Bearworth occasionally to disappear after giving him the goblin amulet. I'll continue to try and figure out a solution to these problems, but I'll send an updated version to BoAC. So the things I believe I fixed are: - The boats should now work properly. - The altar on the island should work as it's supposed to. - I ran all the text files through a spell checker, so the amount of typos should have dropped dramatically. -------------------- These are my scenarios. I may have too much free time but I really don't care. Backwater Calls, Magus of Cattalon, Rats Aplenty Get them here Visit The Lyceum for all your rating needs.
No you can't. Besides, you really want to bring the priest the heads of ten unbelievers and donate all your money to the church? quote]Originally written by spy.there :( Smoo, that lever-puzzle drives me insane. Did somebody find out how to handle the scissor-stone-paper-levers?
I assume that you said you didn't hate the Empire to the grumpy old man in Grimson. If you said yes then do as the old man said and the people you were suppose to contact in Sattle will tell you the right combination. But if you really want to know the right combination and not hate the Empire then the right one is: first pull the blank lever, then rock, paper, scissors and rock. quote:Was the character you tried to sit in the chair a slith? Due to misplaced parentheses the script wouldn't run if the character on the chair was a slith. I fixed that one. quote:You mean you could show Bearworth the amulet and he says the "follow me" - routine, but then just wanders around? Have you tried showing the amulet several times? Load your game and try again. For some reason the script doesn't always work. I think it was about one out of twenty that it didn't work for me. In case you're still stuck, please answer these questions. What have you done so far? When you started the scenario did you go straight to the goblin caves and then to Grimson or did you wander around? Oh and the boats, I believe I fixed that problem as well. About the typos: The beta testers did bring them up, but they did it more like this: There are SOME typos, but it's not that big a deal. What they should have said was: GAH! Way too many typos! This is crap! Absolute crap! Fix them now! Apparently if I'm not shouted at I can't tell if anything's wrong. I doubt any of that has anything to do with the problem. If anyone has any clue as to what might be causing this problem, then please, do share. Don't take my whining the wrong way: I'm glad you brought the typos up :) Posts: 211 | Registered: Sunday, January 30 2005 08:00 |

SkeleTony: I tried to duplicate the bugs you pointed out but couldn't. I used a human singleton, a 1 slith, 1 nephil, 2 humans party and a four slith party. If you could tell me what kind of party you are using (mainly what races you have) then I could figure out what the problem is. About the grammar: Oh shoot! I thought I corrected most of the mistakes. :( But please, have mercy! English is not my native language. (and as excuses go: this isn't that good, I know. I guess I just rushed into submitting the scenario, not caring much about the grammar. *sigh!*) EDIT: Sheesh! Now that I've run the dialog and such through a spell checker, I'll ask myself this: Why the hell didn't it cross my mind to do this BEFORE I submitted the scenario? *deep sigh!* [ Thursday, March 03, 2005 04:56: Message edited by: Smoo ] -------------------- These are my scenarios. Goatman: Well I checked the boat thing and I could move it anywhere except BACK into the city. Is anyone else having this problem? And about the levers: There is a person who will tell you what to do with them, assuming you say the right words. You'll be able to talk to the mayor once you've completed the goblin quest in Fort Laramie. (If you already have done that then show the amulet to the wizard in Grimson.) Like Kelandon said: there's no such thing as a "only for Pc scenario". I just forgot to send the mac version to BoAC. Thank you Kelandon for converting the graphics so that mac players can play Backwater Calls too. But when spiderweb posts the scenario on their site they make the mac version, right? I mean, I don't have to send them a .sit-file. [ Monday, February 28, 2005 07:33: Message edited by: Smoo ] -------------------- These are my scenarios. I sent my scenario Backwater Calls to spiderweb. Now unfortunately, since I don't have a website of my own, the scenario isn't available until spiderweb processes it (or whatever they do with the scenarios). Anywho, I'd like to thank all of the betatesters that helped me pull together a more bug-free scenario. Thank you! Now, I'm off to bed. So far I've made it to Machinery and I like what I've seen so far. I probably won't be able to finish the scenario for a while since I don't plan on using the walkthrough. Alrighty, thank you. I think that's enough testers for the betas I plan on running. Now as for you last three signers, I'll be sending the scenario your way once I had enough reports from the ones who have the scenario already. So you'll just have to wait, sorry. Right, and the others you all have the scenario right and I didn't mess up the Mac version in any way? That's right I managed to finish the work on my scenario and named it like that. The scenario is for level 30 parties and up. It has eighteen towns and a three-by-three outdoor section I'm going to run at least one round of beta. So if you're interested in finding a couple of bugs and trashing my plot, post this completed form: Name: (for the readme credits) E-mail address: Operating system (PC or Mac): What kind of party you plan on using(the one you used to beat DWtD or Canopy etc.): I'll be sending the scenario as soon as I see enough names here. I now see I should have edited this message when I said "that's enough betatesters". I'm glad I didn't. But seriously: that's enough, thank you!
