I actually feel bad for him. He spent so much time posting here. I can't say I found any value in his posts, but he did enjoy it. This will probably crush him.

I can't believe I am saying this, but I hope he isn't banned forever.

In my defense, I simply copied it from the walkthrough.

Quick Action? in Avernum 4

quote:
> Quick Strike: 6 Dex (cost is 8)+ 6 Melee/pole (starts to cost 7 pts), skill
points per point = 3. Gives a chance to add an extra AP point per turn, and
makes you act faster in combat. A bit less than 5% chance per point. A
good skill, one you should buy some points in for everyone. Don't try to
train in it for everyone, though.

quote:
> Quick Action (initial cost- 1). Gives you a small chance to attack twice,
and increases your attack order. A nice, cheap skill- at about level 5-6,
you'll get lots of double attacks.

From the walkthrough accessible at the A4 forum home.

Quick action is most useful for warriors using pole or melee weapons, as you can only get multiple strikes with a melee weapon. Quickstrike is useful to all because if you have 10 AP you can cast two spells or make two attacks in a round.

By fantasy, I did not mean that all parts of the relationship would be great. Instead, the relationship is typically not entirely real.

When you are together for short periods of time (a week, etc.) you don't act how you normally do. You probably give an extreme amount of attention to the other person to make up for the time apart. This is natural. However, I think it causes both individuals to perceive each other unrealistically, since you could not possibly carry on in such a fashion without sacrificing other areas of your lives.

Therefore, the perceived relationship is a fantasy, as in not real.

I think if you closely analyze how you act when you are with her or talking to her, you will realize that it is different from your normal life in ways that are ultimately irreconcilable.

Since it seems you are not enjoying the majority of the fantasy, I recommend ending it. Some people are just masochist, however.

I think all this talk about life subsisting in a medium other than water is rather disappointing. It is unlikely that a methane or ammonia based organism would be very tasty when you eat it, so really what is the point of searching for such life forms. Although, I guess the methane ones might have a bang when you chomp down on them. NASA should spend time trying to find organisms that taste like chicken, only better.

Definately forget about her. The friends thing really doesn't work.

Someone brought up long distance relationships. There is really no point to long distance relationships, because ultimately they are not really relationships. Instead they are fantasy. A relationship requires two people together in the same place.

Move on and find someone new. You will be happy you did. I never have regretted a clean break from an ex when there was a good reason for it.

Party Composition in Avernum 4

What is the best party composition in A4?

Does it make sense to have a slith and a kitty, or is it better to go all human?

Who should train in lockpicking? A mage for combination with the unlock spell?

Is it better to have your fighters use melee or pole weapons?

I searched around the forums a little bit and I could find any really strong opinions. If this topic has already been addressed, could someone direct me to where.

creations in Geneforge 4: Rebellion

Probably not. Not unless you were going to make an equally massive game. Since you can only have 7 (I think) creations at a time what is the point of being able to make say 100 different creations. I bet people probably would still stick to making a select 10 or so creations. Take for instance the Battle Alpha, I am willing to bet that few players go through the trouble to make one.

I think the creations would end up being largely redundant. It would be a lot of time invested with no real reward. Finally, good luck thinking up 100 different creations.

The game engine of course appears to be largely similar, although I noticed some indication of a fatigue rating on your characters. I am sure there will be neat bells and whistles.

The real thrill of course will likely be the storyline. Here is what Jeff gave us:

quote:
The surface world is ruled by the Empire. Its power is absolute. Its control is unchallenged. And, as a soldier of the Empire, you have a good, comfortable life ahead of you. But then a rebel named Vahkohs tried to assassinate the Empress, and everything went wrong for you.

The villain fled somewhere into Avernum, an underworld nation of eccentrics, misfits, and barely civilized monsters, most of whom hate the Empire. And that is where you are going. You must find Vahkohs, while dealing with spies, betrayal, and assassins at every turn.

The enemy is waiting for you. You will only survive his attention with the help of these strange cave dwellers. If, of course, they don’t kill you first.

Good luck getting things working (or waiting for them to work).

First of all it is sense, not "sence."

Second of all, this is a much more valid discussion than whatever you previously spammed about.

Thank you to all of you who gave me high votes.

Elitist? in General
Warrior
Member # 4638

First off, what is wrong with elitism?

Elitism should be accepted.

The opinion of those with superior understanding of any situation should be given the most weight.

I would say Spiderweb is elitist.

At the same time, I think there is no bar preventing those who show superior understanding or contribution from becoming "elite." So the elite class is open to those who prove themselves.

I think that the evils of elitism depend a lot on how the elite class is formed. When formed based on raw talent and personal historical contribution, some of its inherent evil may be abated.

Exile Series remake! in General
Warrior
Member # 4638

quote:
Now, I know this starts to really go outside of the principles of Exile but would be interesting to see in a RPG... If we can tear down a wall, I think we should be able to build/fix one too. I've often wanted to be able to build my own fort in a RPG game, just to have one. This would especially be useful in a remake of Exile that had the world map set-up of Avernum 4, where the towns and outdoors were one map, and there were various roaming monsters and you couldn't ever find a good place to rest. You could then build a fort and have a place you could defend yourself and hang out at(kinda like the house in Exile 3, but built where ever you wanted). Then you could hire people to do mundane tasks(such as make weapons) for some added fluff(kinda like in Skies of Arcadia for the Game Cube and Dreamcast). While probly not all that useful, it's still a nice concept. 'Specially since you don't need fancy 3D graphics to make a more interactive game.
Come to think of it, you actually could kind of do this in the original Exile series too. You could create force walls and fire walls and use them to your advantage. (a force wall fort)

When fighting a DoomGuard this was particularly helpful, because the DoomGuard would split every time you hit him as long as there was room.

I can remember building an elaborate maze for the doom guard to chase me through and then closing him off in a small area where I could do the dirty work.

Wow, the old Exile was good. It makes me want to play BoE again.
