Why was Iffy banned? Was his infernalness became annoying?

A question in being/before being banned in this board: Don't we at least get a warning before being Empired?

He found a site offering a pirated SW game, and thought the best way to call attention to it would be to start a new topic on General and share it with everyone.

It wasn't.

Hmm, not that I know him or anything, but it seems likely he was trying to point it out to the spidweb team so they can perhaps try to do something about it...

There is such a thing as email, which has the advantage of not advertising the site to the general public.

The topic was moved to the mod board. We mods like to hoard warez for our own personal use. :P

Wow - didn't realize it was actually a full-blown pirated version. Maybe Jeff could take legal action...

EDIT: Not that I like the kid, but it seemed his heart was in the right place, even if his brain (as usual) wasn't - he is a young'un, after all. Pains me to say this, but I hope the ban isn't permanent. As they say, there was no malice aforethought here; just negligence.

Just for my own understanding, the Oberon Media link was legit, right?

I actually feel bad for him. He spent so much time posting here. I can't say I found any value in his posts, but he did enjoy it. This will probably crush him.

I can't believe I am saying this, but I hope he isn't banned forever.

There was no "aforethought" at all, which is enough for discipline sometimes. Sometimes people need to be reminded to think before they act.

Um, read the thread, particularly the post before yours.

The only good thing about Iffy is being reminded of TIOBE and Laz's parody every time I see a post by him.

I know channel the Muffin...

Well, apon reading the "Iffy" thread, I was releaved that it wasn't forever (only two weeks). Also, someone commented on how I might be devestated. I'm not.

What I wanted to do was report a site illegally giving A4 for free.
But I went about it the wrong way. As jg.faust commented, I should have done it by email...instead of posting about it in the General forum. (I never meant any harm from it, my mind wasn't in the right place as someone commented).
Thus ends this Muffin channeling session. See The Roost for the full post.

Some things should be common sense. Jeff's contact information isn't hard to find, but nonetheless I'm glad to hear the ban is temporary.

I agree with Muffy's motive, but not the method. Dolphin's right, it should have been common sense.

I do, however, congratulate Muffy on his remarkable resolve; most people I know would have simply used the link instead of making an attempt to report it.

Or used the site, then reported it to ease their conscience.

I know it's been said a lot, but skippy really didn't think the whole posting the link on the forums thing out. And he should have instead emailed the big man on this one. All that's common sense(and probly on the CoC)

Now, a question comes to mind, who here as actually bothered to read the CoC?

--------------------
Yes, I've met Scallopman.
--Random Chef at a Restaurant that William Shatner has eaten at before.

What does a Scallop taste like, I don't know. Did I eat a lot of them, yeah.

I read it long ago in a galaxy far, far away. The CoC is observed more in the breach, but is dragged out to justify decisions retroactively.

Wow! I go away for two weeks and Iffy is banned. Next time when I think somebody is annoying, I'll just go away for two weeks and see if he gets banned too.

Whenever you leave the forum for two weeks, it's as if someone really annoying is banned?
