(reads Vale intro) Okay... I can't participate in that with a clear conscience. So the folks who are still willing to participate in the Avernum RP are as follows, with their factions included if applicable: LakiRa@Buckshot PartyLt. Sullust (Khoth's Disciples)Nikki (Avernite Protection League)Dintiradan (Dominion of the Learned)Alec (The Abyss Knights)Myself (The Order of Krell)Lazarus (The Enlightened Anama)...so, yay new people! People who we know are out: Aran (Keepers of Memory... boo thesis!)Goldenking (several factions, inc. Hunters and Order of the Bright Star)Slarty (Goblins)People who originally participated but whose interest is unknown, some of whom are just generally MIA: Infernal (Disciples of Death)TM (Adventurer's Guild and the rakshasi)Serith, who has disappeared (North-Eastern Avernum Reclamation Faction)Tyranicus (Knights of Old Avernum)Wonko the Sane, whose name has changed (The Looters)Thralni (FNF, a nephil group)Drakey (Righteous Return)Zephyr (Bandits of Bordrao)Spring (Solaria Group)Prem (Order of Kaz)Sarachim (Cult of Grah-Hoth)Yipe. I think that's it. But I think most of the old factions could easily be done away with, particularly if the people involved have either left or don't post anymore. Also, Goldenking: I for one would not begrudge you a fresh start in a renewed thread, and I think the more people we get involved, the better it would be. You clearly learned a lot from last time. -------------------- TM: "I want BoA to grow. Evolve where the food ladder has rungs to be reached." Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. Those were also removed in Avernum 4. However, secret doors (of a kind) have returned in Avernum 5. -------------------- TM: "I want BoA to grow. Evolve where the food ladder has rungs to be reached." Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. Posts: 4130 | Registered: Friday, March 26 2004 08:00 |

Again, you're hardly giving the dragons any credit here. They understand the humans, that's why they don't usually trust them. In terms of raw magical power, though, the vahnatai probably win. -------------------- TM: "I want BoA to grow. Evolve where the food ladder has rungs to be reached." When it tells you 'overlong or unending string', that means that one of the strings you used is over 255 characters long. I think that refers to the last string in your sample code ('cause it's really long). And 'break;' goes at the very end of a state, not right after the beginstate line. It's probably getting confused because set_crime_tolerance(2) is just kinda hanging out in the script, outside of any state. -------------------- TM: "I want BoA to grow. With the dialogue script, two things. First, you don't need a line break after 'short'. In fact, you need to keep it on the same line as the variable. Second, down at the bottom, instead of 'text1', you just have 'text'. With the town script, you want beginstate and whatever state it is to be on the same line (and you want to add a START_STATE and an EXIT_STATE, even if they're empty). Generally speaking, don't interrupt lines of code with a line break. -------------------- TM: "I want BoA to grow. Evolve where the food ladder has rungs to be reached." Chimney, as the page at EE suggests, is exclusively seen in the Blades of Exile scenario Nephil's Gambit. Thus, it isn't actually present in any of the Avernum games. It's basically fan-canon. -------------------- TM: "I want BoA to grow. Evolve where the food ladder has rungs to be reached." Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. It's quite handy to be able to see login names... helps me keep on top of who's who. Not to mention who was who the previous week. A lot easier than combing through threads and comparing member numbers to track someone's PDN progression. On that note, everybody should just take a quick breath and stop posting for a bit. There have been a few personal attacks in this thread, and they can be construed as breaching the CoC. Thus, they are not nice. Also, posting threats in Novah are both 1) still threats, and 2) annoying to translate when determining if they're threats. And Nija? My honest advice here. If you want to be known as something besides Nija, pick a name and stick with it for more than a week. Then people might be more inclined to call you by that, because they won't be confused a week later when it changes. In conclusion, cool it, everyone. -------------------- TM: "I want BoA to grow. Evolve where the food ladder has rungs to be reached." Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I think it's a cool idea, and I think Niemand's Blades of Rogue already kinda does that. At least, it does it to the extent to which we are currently capable, even acknowledging that we're basically doing things to Blades of Avernum that Blades of Avernum doesn't like having done to it. But I think the biggest limitation to this idea is that it's really hard to generate a meaningful story from it, even more so and sort of cohesive atmosphere. And those are the things that (at least in my mind) have defined SW games up to this point. I mean, once Blades of Rogue gets stabilized on Windows (if it's possible), then I suppose there could be more talk of making it more complicated. And really, Niemand's the one to handle that, and as he said, all you get is hack'n'slash. Anyway, hello and welcome to the boards ('cause I haven't seen you around before). -------------------- TM: "I want BoA to grow. Evolve where the food ladder has rungs to be reached." quote:Okay, totally random and a huge digression. But. If it were decriminalized, it could be regulated. Imagine that one... and if it became legal and thoroughly regulated, it might lose some of its pop-culture-ness, at least in the U.S. After all, what kind of pimp wants to rap about their tax returns? I mean, I'm not sure where I'd stand on that, so I'm just kinda playing devil's advocate here. -------------------- TM: "I want BoA to grow. Evolve where the food ladder has rungs to be reached."
