There was a tendency in the BoE community, which has somewhat carried over to the BoA community, not to talk about scenarios in the works because so many didn't get finished. People wanted to avoid the embarrassment by not talking about the scenarios at all. Also, there was a superstition that talking about scenarios-in-progress made the scenarios less likely to be finished, although it seems to me that most scenarios just don't get finished, talked about or not. (I've talked about at least two of my scenarios before they were finished, and it didn't slow me down.) Anyway, you may not get much in the way of an answer, even if a bunch of people are working on scenarios. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Yay for triple-posting! However, I wanted to bump and give new information as well. New version. This version (finally) fixes the graphics, thanks mostly to Luz, who gave me good versions. Thanks also to one new tester who has already gone through and finished the whole scenario! I'm leaning now towards reducing the damage done in Under Manikoss. Too many people think that having their health reduced to zero every few turns is too difficult. Are there any objections to me doing this? -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! As you walk away, pick up one of the six triangles you will need to the west." 2. Ancient Bahssikava, in the temple in the northwest: "There are two secret passages where you can find things that you need, one on the southwest room that had the altar, and one in the northwest room." 3. In Machinery, after you've solved all the puzzles and passed the major locked doors: "Head north to the room with the pools. Pass from the darkness into the light -- i.e., touch a dark purple pool, then a blue pool, then a light blue pool. Walk up towards the altar and search the west chest. You have the metal triangle you need, so now you can leave and return to the Catacombs." 4. In the Catacombs in the northeast corner, behind the northeastern-most door. 5. In the Catacombs in the northwest, behind the triple-door near (12,20). You can get the coordinates via the special ability "Party Location." 6. When the party is separated and the active person dies, the entire party is treated as dead and the game ends. In older versions of BoA, when the entire party died, the game stopped running script, the turn stopped, and you lost. In the most recent version, I think it waits until the end of the state that it's running (not even the end of the turn), but I am not sure. It'd be easier just to revive most of the party if individual members die during the night but leave the party dead if all of them die. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Rone's memoirs in the Castle in A1 say that Rone, Patrick, and Erika were exiled together after being "at the wrong end of a political struggle in the Mages' Guild." They fought Grah-Hoth with "a large band of warriors and a small cadre of mage apprentices" — no mention of Solberg or Linda yet. Patrick mentions that Patrick, Erika, and Solberg were part of the first Triad. Solberg has therefore arrived by that point. I can't find anything on Linda's history, though. X's talking description in A1 indicates that he is "middle-aged," whatever that means for a mage. Patrick is described as "a tired and bent old man." Erika is described as "piercingly beautiful," but there's no indication of age. Solberg is described as "aging" and "bald." And hey! Solberg and X both have cobra staffs! I never noticed that before. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Smoo: Get ready to face the walls! The Exodus beta is now going public! That's right: even if you weren't among the select few chosen to be the first testers of the scenario, now you, too, can achieve eternal fame and glory by having your name in the readme of an actual released scenario! All you have to do is go to the Exodus page on my website, download the scenario, play it, and send me a report with any bugs or problems you encounter. It's that easy! Seriously, I think most of the significant bugs have been squashed at this point (although I have no doubt that some are lingering still). I'm now equally interested in discussion points: is the acid damage under Manikoss excessive? Is Inferno (or Cloudkill or the Divine Slith Spear or whatever) overpowered? Feel free to use this thread to start discussion about points that are more subjective, like these. Actual bug reports should be sent via e-mail, though. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Do special rectangles work on the outermost edges of towns and outdoor sections? I tried placing a special at the edge of an outdoor section from (0,17) to (0,20), and it did not actually call the appropriate state. I shifted the rectangle to (1,17) and did nothing else to it, and it functioned just fine. The Exodus beta will go public probably tomorrow. What that means is that I'll host the scenario on my website and post a link, and anyone who wants can download it, play it, and send a beta report. This is provided that I actually continue to have time over the next couple of days, which is always an enormous "if". -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. That is rather odd. In the Quarry Tunnels, there's no re-spawn chance, and the mines are tied to SDFs, so the monsters shouldn't come back, and neither should the mines. I can't tell you how or why this is happening, but it is extremely weird. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. quote:I hadn't actually been aware of this. I think, judging from a few sites (including Wikipedia), that Plouton was actually an alternative Greek name for Hades — associated with the word for wealth, ploutos, and thereby associated with the underground, because wealth (gold) is mined from the ground, and therefore associated with the underworld — and Plouton was Latinized as Pluto. The Romans tried to find counterparts for Greek gods whenever they could. Sometimes they matched up really well (Zeus and Jupiter, who are in fact descended from the same Proto-Indo-European god). Sometimes they kinda didn't (Hephaestus and Vulcan, the former being a smith god and the latter being a volcano god, only vaguely related). Sometimes there just was no equivalent, and the Romans just stole the god outright (Apollo). Apparently the last is what happened with Pluto. At least, that's my best guess from looking at a few websites.
