I object on grammatical grounds. When comparing two items, one must use a comparative. One can only use a superlative when comparing three items or more. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. quote:Hoooo boy. It depends a little on what you're looking for. The Avernum and Geneforge series are the most recent, and I'm always a fan of starting at the beginning, so Avernum 1 or Geneforge 1 is a good place to start. If you don't mind picking up in the middle of a story, Avernum 2 and Geneforge 4 are favorites around here. Nethergate is also very popular, and it stands alone. If you like really old-school games, the Exile series may be the way to go. And the Blades games are certainly each a good purchase. Blades of Exile has 300+ user-created scenarios associated with it, so you could play it endlessly, and Blades of Avernum has dozens as well. If you'd like massive and unending within a single Spidweb-made game, Avernum 3 deserves honorable mention as the largest game Spidweb has ever made (almost the size of Avernum 1 and Avernum 2 put together). The only game I'd recommend against starting with is Avernum 4. It's really meant for people who've played Avernums 1-3 and are already fans of the series. Download the demos and try them. None of the games are significantly worse than the demos suggest, and BoE and BoA are much better than the demos suggest, so you can get a pretty good feel for the games from the demos. Huh. This topic brings to mind that I am almost totally ignorant of Aristotle's writings. I mean, I know vaguely what they are and when they come from, and I have some vague concept of what they say, but I don't think I've read any of them really at all. Plato's pretty badass, though. His Apologia in Greek is one of the greatest examples of prose style ever produced. I think most moderns' reactions by the end of it are, "Kill the bastard now," which may not have been exactly what he intended, but it's great nonetheless. :P -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. If you have several related questions, you can ask them all in the same topic, instead of creating three different topics. But don't worry about the number of questions; a lot of people struggle through these games and need much more help than you have asked for so far. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. quote:The more relevant question is whether the 95% should have access. We're not quite at the point yet — give us a couple more decades on this one — where we can predict individual reactions to a drug. Statistics are all we have, and releasing the drug to the general public is releasing it to the people it will help and the people it will hurt. Progress willing, that won't continue to be the case for much longer, but right now, that's all we've got. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. quote:It's not my analogy. Try reading the thread, n00b. :P As for the topic: while I'm not sure that people should be prevented from taking drugs at their own discretion, I'm pretty sure that testing and disclosure are good things. We at least ought to know what these things do — as best we can, whatever that means — before we start giving them to people. If every person on trial had a loaded gun pointed at a couple thousand people, innocent until proven guilty might be interpreted slightly differently. Likewise, if medications had feelings or could be harmed by lack of use, we might assume that they were innocent until proven guilty. They don't and they're not, so we don't.
