My links list has been updated to reflect the loss of UA (and the release of Niemand's scenario, which puts him in the "Designers" category). Spidweb's links also have a link to his page, but I can't do anything about that.

I don't quite remember where we were in that other thread. As I recall, my last post involved the fact that irreducible complexity makes a statement about what cannot ever happen and therefore must justify that this cannot ever happen under any circumstances.

Stillness seemed appalled and wanted to back into probabilities again, but irreducible complexity doesn't rely on probabilities. It relies on impossibility.

True, but that doesn't make it any less important. Scientists do give good definitions of things in real science.

I think we're done here. BoG is, for better or worse, not going to happen.

It probably doesn't, because this would be harder to program than most of what Alint does. It requires recognizing a while-loop and checking if the variable is set anywhere within it. That's checking more than one line at a time, which I don't think Alint really does at the moment.

The original question was about Mac OS X.

There is no resource editor on the Spidweb site. There's a scenario editor. They're totally different things.

If the point is to muck with BoA graphics, Niemand's Utilities page has Graphic Adjuster, which is the easiest thing to use.

I think the point that both Stareye and Khoth were making in the other thread is that this makes "complexity" ill-defined. The second string of numbers might be my favorite 1350-number string, in which case the seemingly random set is no longer random to me, but it's random to everyone who doesn't know that.

This makes something "complex" if some importance can be assigned to its order, but "some importance" is completely arbitrary and does not make for a good mathematical principle.

This at first sounds a little funny, because so much of modern physics is probabilistic, not deterministic, but I suppose you're talking about a classical description as much as anything, and in classical physics, everything is deterministic.

BoA took so long to make and sold so poorly that Spidweb was in a pretty tight spot financially. I don't think anyone wants that to happen again, least of all Jeff.

Did we have five new designers in this contest? That may be the best thing about it.

BoE does it (which is why I bring it up), although its solution (make the boxes too small, so that you have to scroll) is a little annoying. It probably could be done right if you made the text boxes adequately wide.

I've always been unclear on whether URLs are case sensitive, but I guess they must be, because there's a case problem in the link from your utilities page to the script editor.

It works fine on my computer (10.3.9). Looks outstanding. A couple things:

* In the Create Dialog feature, it'd be nice to have multiple boxes so that we could see all six strings at once.

* Create Note seems weirdly named. Create One-Time Message seems more unwieldly but more accurate. Maybe there's a better term for it.

* Word-wrapping is supposed to make the text fit the width of the window, right? It doesn't work when I try it.

My first reaction is that this is a great program. I suppose it could use a little bit of documentation (for newbs who don't get the concept of "New From Template").

I think we tried to find Richard White once, and we found a person in New Zealand by that name who was, like, a plumber or something. He had clearly given up on game design (who knows why!!). I tried to find the thread, but I think it's been purged, but I did find that virtually all of the thread names on pages 4-6 of RWG are, um, classic. They were mostly created by Alec or TM, so you can imagine (or just check them).

Well, there's this.

Congratulations to all participants. This was the most successful short contest ever, in terms of number of new scenarios produced (which really is the point, after all).

Last day of school is Tuesday. Finals go from Friday to the following Thursday. I have to say, I'm anxious for this semester to be over. I still have two term papers and four finals to deal with in the next two weeks.

In other news, one of my term papers allows — um, I mean requires — me to read a book on dirty Latin words.
