There is a small exception, though: when you use the keyboard to move in A4, the screen only re-centers every now and then, which looks horribly awkward to me. I would never consider using anything but the keyboard to move in A1-3, but I can't bring myself to use the keyboard more than sporadically for movement in A4. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. That limit is the number of commands you can run in a row. If you do, for example, this: Then you will run into the limit. Once a tick has elapsed, the number resets. As far as relevant BoA limits, you have a limit on the length of a script — something like 4000 lines — and the number of commands you can run in a row — something like 60000. You can have at least 100 states, probably many more. So in other words, this is not likely to be a problem. I think I just didn't get very far in the first few weeks, because I've been making pretty good progress but am only wandering about the Great Cave at this point. I'm having some difficulty figuring out how to make a good party here — I feel very weak against the enemies that I'm fighting. There are some people I should be able to defeat whom I can't. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. I'm guessing that you use it the same way you would use Hawk King's editor: replace z2southenddlg.txt with this file — which needs to be text — open the game, and access the trainer via the First South End sign. You definitely don't need to know any coding. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. There is no way to raise you maximum amount of money. You can use trainers to edit your money, though. There are supposed to be three drakon canisters in GF3, one in Icy End, one in Benerii-Eo Labs, and one in the Geneforge, but I've heard that people have had difficulty finding the one in Icy End. And yes, pretty much any of the trainers will allow you to get Ur-Drakons. Two preliminary things: first, I'm not at all trying to debate matters of theology or whatever. I'm simply tryinig to convey what the meanings of the sentences probably are. My interest is linguistic, not spiritual. Second, I am not any sort of authority on Koine Greek. However, I do know how to read the LSJ — not as simple as it sounds — and the LSJ is the Classical Greek-to-English dictionary, like the OED for modern English. I would take it pretty seriously. Now then, I appear to have omitted something that I intended to say earlier: the word is two-fold. It's not a question of whether the author (Holy Spirit or human) could've intended to be sloppy or unclear: it is definitely known that it is ambiguous, not because we're not familiar with the word, but because it had two meanings (and more, in fact, according to the LSJ). In the conversational Greek of the first century, it clearly meant both an indefinitely long age and an infinitely long age. Pinning it down as solely the former meaning is just as wrong as insisting that it always held the latter meaning. I'm not saying that your argument about eternity is wrong. I'm just saying that it is a single interpretation, one of many that make sense. That's why it's "your" belief, as DP said. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Ash: Evidently "the Son of Man" business comes from "ho huios tou anthrôpou," which literally means "the son of the person," and it gives the impression to me of "the son of humanity" — Greek (like French or Spanish) likes to give an article to abstract nouns in a way that English wouldn't. Interestingly, there are two words for a man in Greek, anêr and anthrôpos, and he uses the latter, even though the former is more, er, virile. By using anthôpos, he's strongly suggesting all of humanity, not merely a great man. The explanation that I've heard is that it's a Messianic thing. Daniel 7:13 makes reference to the Son of Man in a Messianic context. I can't speak directly from the Hebrew, because I don't know it, but my footnotes tell me that Adam does have something to do with the word "man," so that may be involved. quote:You're not seriously suggesting that the NT was written primarily to be clear and precise, are you? Why did Jesus speak in parables all the time? If the Holy Spirit really wrote it, then all bets are off, but if a person wrote it, then I'd expect the word to have the meaning that it did in first century conversational Greek. quote:Paul, perhaps, but not the author of the Gospel of John, which was the verse you had me look up. None of the authors of the NT were rhetorical masters on par with Demosthenes or Plato, and it's pretty clear that the authors of the Gospels were not among the most linguistically talented. Some attempted high prose, but none could really pull it off. So it's likely that they meant what aiôn would've meant in colloquial Greek at the time. quote:With a common word such as this, yes. A great many of the classical writers use it, and those classical writers were continously commented on by grammarians from times nearly contemporary with them all the way to the present day by speakers of Modern Greek. Some of the more obscure dialects of Greek — Sappho's dialect, for instance — may have words that we aren't completely sure about, but the Koine of the NT comes directly from Attic and turns into Modern Greek, so it's pretty thoroughly understood. quote:And already you reveal the failing in your argument. Your conclusion may be correct, but this rationale is never adequate. As a clarification, although aiôn and aiônios literally meant an indefinitely long but finite period of time, they were used figuratively to mean "forever" on a fairly regular basis in Classical Greek. The LSJ cites Plato in the Timaeus, for instance, in 37d, where he clearly means something unending. Indeed, if I'm reading the LSJ correctly, this was becoming more standard usage as time went by — Hesiod in the early years of Greek writing used it more strictly as an age, but by Plato's time, it would've been more clearly eternal, and the rather colloquial Roman-era Greek of the NT probably would've leaned more towards the "forever" meaning. Also, aiôn was also used to mean the state of the world and figuratively the world itself from time to time. The LSJ makes that quite clear. That said, I'm not sure if that actually matters to any of those points, which I haven't looked at closely. For all I know, that argument still stands as a less loose reading of the text. After all, I'm not much with Koine yet. And it is definitely true that the KJV's translations tend to be misleading, those which aren't nonsensical (the classic example being the first few verses of John), which is why all who care about the Bible need to learn Greek. It doesn't really make sense as sarcasm. The Latin alphabet derives from the Greek alphabet, albeit indirectly. That is, some Latin character pronunciations are related to Sicilian-dialect Greek pronunciations. The capitals for both languages are nearly the same, and the lower-case miniscules were developed much later (during the Middle Ages). The Greek alphabet derives from the Phoenician alphabet, which in turn is derived (apparently — now I'm on Wikipedia, as Phoenician was as far back as I knew of) from proto-Canaanite, which in turn evidently had something to do with hieroglyphic writing or cuneiform, but that link is not entirely clear. Anyway, my point is, Hebrew writing and Latin writing both derive from Phoenician writing, but Latin writing does not in any way derive from Hebrew writing. The process of borrowing from Chinese to Japanese was much more direct, without transmission through intermediary languages. Thralni: I still can't for the life of me figure out what you meant. You clearly could never read Japanese or Chinese. In any case, if anyone's wondering, the way to tell the two apart is that Chinese has only the complicated Chinese characters (like 貴 or 仮), but Japanese has the same characters interspersed with much simpler characters (like し or の). The Chinese characters are called kanji, and the simpler characters are hiragana and sometimes katakana. Korean, by the way, looks much like Chinese but contains many more circles. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. Ferrets also have wavelengths and diffract when going through slits (or doorways). It's just that the diffraction is usually rather small. But is it possible that the collision of a ferret and an anti-ferret is responsible for the dichotomy between RW and RB? -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens. quote:Tartaroô is a verbification of Tartaros, meaning literally "to Tartaros" someone. From that it gets the meaning, "to throw into Tartaros." You can read about Tartaros (or the Latin "Tartarus") in any book on classical mythology (or in this Wikipedia article). It had always been the nastier part of the underworld, reserved for bad folks, but during Roman times (concurrent with 2 Peter), it came to resemble something rather like the current-day pop culture image of Hell: a lake of fire, etc. I am not a scholar of the Hebrew tradition of the afterlife, but if there was any concept of Hell in the modern sense among the ancient Jews, Tartaros would not be an unfair Greek translation of a Hebrew word for Hell. -------------------- Arancaytar: Every time you ask people to compare TM and Kel, you endanger the poor, fluffy kittens.
