Absolutely. Why would you bother to come back if it wasn't an enjoyable experiance? It isn't as if the titles mean anything, or make your words more valid than someone else's. -------------------- Learn About The Man Behind the Messiah. Posts: 137 | Registered: Tuesday, July 22 2003 07:00 |

Yeah, that's true. I decided to get an Xbox primarily because I couldn't play much of anything on my computer for a long time. This issue is slowly getting to be less of a problem, as more mainstream games are now either cross-platform or released simultaneously for both platforms. -------------------- Learn About The Man Behind the Messiah. I once wore the name Casey Jones to honor that hero of my childhood, the loveable conductor with a heart of gold. Also a delightful tune by the Grateful Dead. The new moniker reflects my adherence to veganism and my propensity for tagging buildings, disrupting existing traffic patterns via bike and/or roadblocks, a delight in fires, and all things that bespeak of mayhem. In a word: militant. -------------------- Learn About The Man Behind the Messiah. Posts: 137 | Registered: Tuesday, July 22 2003 07:00 |

Yeah, adding fog as another terrain item is a good idea. Maybe something like the sleep cloud from BoE, only a little more translucent. -------------------- Learn About The Man Behind the Messiah. Posts: 137 | Registered: Tuesday, July 22 2003 07:00 |

Ugh...I'm not even going to touch abortion. I'm not a woman, I have no uterus, I have no opinion. But back to the original topic, if I may. I agree with Sarachim when he says that purpose is uniquely defined by the individual. It is not an absolute that can be dictated as though it were a simple commodity. But too often the idea of a purpose is identified with as a goal or a pinnicle which all other actions strive towards, as though life were simply a mountain that must be climbed. No, I think purpose tends more towards an amalgam of ethics, morality, principle, and philosophy. It is all of these, and of course such a blend could not be anything other than unique. A purpose is more than just a reason why, it is also the how in life, what we choose to do with ourselves. Purpose is contained within action, and action expresses purpose. So when you say, what is my purpose, why do I exist?, I believe that your understanding can be furthered by examining elements of your life which you feel are the most real, or true. Of course, I realize that this veiw pretty much discounts a higher religious veiw of existance in which purpose actually does exist as an absolute; namely, as God's overarching edict that my life should serve some particular aim of his/hers. I cannot change my opinions or the ideas that i have constructed with their help. I am what I am beccause I am what I am. -------------------- Learn About The Man Behind the Messiah. Along those lines, it might also be possible to have diffrent creatures active at diffrent times of day. But this might also be very difficult to implement - if you're outdoors when the transition occurs, do the monsters you were just running from dissappear, or is it more subtle than that? -------------------- Learn About The Man Behind the Messiah. Just something off the top of my head for this topic A long grey morning last october my steps lead me down to the shoreline where a man struggled against his darkness, in the water drowning Nothing served to help my thoughts No answer lay at hand Despite my hopes and all my fears I could not save this man His efforts seemed valiant, yet their futility was plain to him, to me we both could see his soul, by water claimed Thus, I sat, I watched, Our eyes met but once. And in his gaze forgiveness lay He strruck his colors, reliquished life and sank beneath the waves Along that lonely beach I lay for hours and hours all through the day wondering at the fate of Man and the coldness seeping through, within Weeping, wearied at dusk I returned to the cheering warmth of hearth and home Not the man I was before nor could never be again -------------------- Learn About The Man Behind the Messiah. Town killing was always kind of a daunting task - guards are damn strong! My favorite technique was to create a little bolt hole on the edge of town in Exile using the force barriers, then cast Quickfire and seal it off. It's always amusing to watch the peasents flee the scalding flames. -------------------- Learn About The Man Behind the Messiah. Posts: 137 | Registered: Tuesday, July 22 2003 07:00 |

I really dislike movies for the most part, but a film I saw recently was absolutely the best I've ever seen. It was called The Cruise; it's a documentary of Anthony "Speed" Levitch and the focus is on his perceptions of life around him. Levitch is a doubledecker bus tour guid in New York, and he uses the tour as a means of relating to the people around him, to express his own philosophy of life. He discusses love, loneliness, the urban setting as a living organism, community, and the essential meaning of freedom. Truly an exceptional film. -------------------- Learn About The Man Behind the Messiah. Posts: 137 | Registered: Tuesday, July 22 2003 07:00 |

A non-combat scenario does sound interesting, but I'm a little ambivalent as well. It would have to be exceptionally well done to be worthwhile, with a tightly written plot and engaging environment. It's not enough to simply include a series of ad-hoc riddles and frustrating lever puzzles in order for it to be true to the idea of non-combat. These puzzle elements are beyond tired. A project like this would require a great deal of excellent writing, and that's a trait I haven't seen in too many scenarios. -------------------- Learn About The Man Behind the Messiah. I've only read the first book, but I enjoyed it. The role-playing game reminded me a lot of .hack//sign. Does the series stay consistantly strong in plot flow, or does it lose its' focus in later books? -------------------- Learn About The Man Behind the Messiah. I've always enjoyed Orson Scott Card's "Ender" books, especially as I moved through the series and the books became more philosophical in content. I liked the mix of various conceptions of spirituality that he uses, as well as the diffrent cultural sorces for diffrent elements of the story. Although, I've had to reread them several times to get any sort of deeper meaning, seeing as how I've only recently learned how to read with any sort of intospective analytical purpose in mind. -------------------- Learn About The Man Behind the Messiah. TNG had several Sherlock Holmes references, topped off with the appearence of Prof. Moriarty. With Sir Arthur Conan Doyle being one of my literary idols, my heart won't let me vote any other way. *Stamps the "Casey Jones Seal of Approval" on TNG Oh, and Voyager was a brimming bucket of rancid meat. I guess that made things easier. -------------------- Learn About The Man Behind the Messiah. Posts: 137 | Registered: Tuesday, July 22 2003 07:00 |

As to what culture actually is, though.... Ask a thousand men, and you will receive a thousand answers. There are as many opinions as there are people to voice them It's the sum of all existential input. It's a lot of fun to be profound, but it never seems to solve anything. Anyone familiar with the work of Daniel Quinn? (Ishmael, My Ishmael, etc.) He refers frequently to the "voice of Mother Culture" as a means to explain society's near universal acceptance of an extremly unnatural way of living. Great read, if you're into that sort of thing... -------------------- Learn About The Man Behind the Messiah. Posts: 137 | Registered: Tuesday, July 22 2003 07:00 |
