Alec, like TM and Djur, follows the "if you have nothing bad to say, don't say anything" rationale. There's a reason the Desperance Scenario Reviews rank their subjects on a negative scale - 0 is the best.

So yes, if your writing is good (which yours is), silence is the best you can hope for.

If you have an iCal or XML-based calendar (such as Google Calendar), you can subscribe to this calendar. Otherwise, you can also look at the web page (times there are in EDT, -0400 UTC):

http://www.google.com/calendar/...

I'd be especially glad if Tyran could check it and verify that the day for the second one is correct. You didn't state any day, so I assume it is the next midday after the first chat.

iCal is here:

And XML here:

The (possibly imagined) implication that a homosexual would wish to change their sexuality, while no heterosexual ever would.

Actually, I think someone who wants to change their sexuality can do so on their own - it's not like it's an illness like alcoholism and needs to be treated medically.

Somehow this has drifted implicitly toward poetry. So I'd like to post a reminder that if you have visual art or prose to share, that can go in here too...

I haven't been productive lately. Productive = "have written a single creative word" and lately = "the last couple of months". So for now I'll dredge something up from my collection, and later try to write something new (a Mountain of Shadows post'd be favorite). Which I posted here before.

It's not much to look at either, in the "making-sense" department. I wrote it in the train while on caffeine and some sleep deprivation. Those factors produce strangeness.

quote:
Beyond the shadowy hills there lies
The land of a race with crimson eyes.
Where looming, towering figures rise
(Among the hills, where darkness lies)
And cast about their baleful eyes
Upon a folk that never dies,
A world whose knowledge death defies
And where the deathless silence cries
A sound of rage or joy likewise
But here the silent void defies
All noise, its own unspoken cries
Upon a race that never dies,
Upon a folk that ever lies,
Where truth is but a poor disguise
For a nightmare land whose name defies
Both sanity and its demise
Land of a race with crimson eyes
Land of a race that never dies
Land of a folk that ever lies
Land of a people that death defies
Land of a people whose unheard cries
Echo from spaces where madness lies.

In Leng of the eternal ice
I met that race with crimson eyes
And learnt their lore and heard their cries
And read the silent libraries
That held the ancient knowledge wise,
And there I learnt of her demise
In grief she waited, her piercing cries
To echo from the vaults likewise
And if I strained my ears and eyes
I could perceive where madness lies:
In the land of a race with crimson eyes,
In the land of a folk that never dies
In the land of a people that ever lies
In the land of a race that death defies
Beyond the shadowy hills it lies
Beyond the moonlit stars that rise
Among the hills where darkness lies.

Douglas Adams sure had. I hated reading that last unfinished book.

But I like the analogy of ideas and Crystal Souls. Quite true - who needs an immortal crystal when you have immortal books?

Why? Because at the rate we're going, the board will be stone-dead this time next year. It's not even cyclical - the decline has lasted most of the year.

I. Joining Rate

106 members have registered. This number is higher than last month. Savour it - it's the only one. The reason is probably to be found in the high number of banned members.

28 new members have actually posted. This is the lowest ever, of course.

April 2005: 151/87
May 2005: 78/43
June 2005: 147/91

II. Activity

172 old members have posted (lowest ever), and together with the 28 active newbies (lowest ever), this - of course - forms the smallest active community ever, 201.

Monthly Overview:
April 2005: 360 (273)

Those were the days. We now have 2840 posts (lowest ever), 89.70 posts per day (lowest ever, also first time below 100), 14.1 posts per member (lowest ever), coming to 0.45 per member per day (lowest ever).

Is "investment" a euphemism? I mean, I like reading Pratchett's books, but I don't read any of them more than, say, once or twice a year. Far too many good books out there to wa-- invest time reading some of them over and over again... ;)

I am now suffering from emoticon poisoning.

And you spelled "da ist nichts zu machen" wrong. :P

What do you mean by inspiring? If I am suffering from writer's block or need some ideas, I usually go on bicycle rides or take walks after midnight (thunderstorms are favorite). Sometimes I listen to music like the soundtrack of Riven, Brahms' Hungarian Dances or Vivaldi's Four Seasons.

Also, for some reason I am a lot more creative on train rides. But that doesn't work if I feel under pressure - so I couldn't deliberately go on a train and suddenly find inspiration.

Wipe that. When did you BECOME me?!

Hey, I resent that, I'll have you know. How is it perfectly fine to call someone cute when they don't want to be, but obsessive to call them lovely? Also, I didn't even buy spyglasses yet.

Which leads me to the conclusion that... um... you are jealous? Don't worry, you can continue to stalk me to your heart's desire. Unless you start leaving weird messages or making obscene phone calls. That's where I'd have to draw the line. ;)
