Actually Aran, Ratt is spot on. Diki specifically requested that this thread not be cluttered with inanities. Despite only two chapters being released, this topic has grown to almost 150 replies. I assure you that most of them could exist in a different thread, as they are completely unrelated.

My apologies. In a post, "this post" implies a self-reference to me when not otherwise pointed out, so "this topic is getting full of stupid posts, like this one" suggests a certain confusion on the part of the poster. If it was stupid, why did you post it?

If he was talking about my post, then he may have more of a point. I'll try to set a better example in the future.

They replace it, and the old version is not kept. There are a few problems that make keeping revisions very impractical.

  • Signatures are archived as part of the post, and this isn't easy to fix. If you changed your signature, all your posts would be saved as new revisions. Lots of clutter.
  • The ppp_posts table is 1 GB big as it is, and only navigable through heavy indexing and optimization. Putting old revisions in it would make it too hugemassive.
  • If content is deliberately censored (through editing, not pruning) from the forum, it will disappear from the archive. If it were kept, I'd have to take a more active role in moderating it.

The headline makes it seem a lot stranger than it is - it's not at all like those myths about Zeus bearing children that hatch from his head or his thigh.

About the only ones who can remain excited about this after reading the article are the fundamentalists...
