That would indeed be awesome. I'd buy one, and I'm not even that much of a Geneforge fan.

Didn't that particular con artist, er, "jump ship" in the ed, as it were? Or do you think Vetinari will find another one for the mint eventually?

On topic, Aran, could you connect PPP with endeavor database to get the post context on the day they were posted. (You are getting current member names, but it would be even better to get the member names, locations, and custom titles from the closest available snapshot in endeavor, or the information you got when parsing through original archives, whichever is more current.) This would present the posts as closely as possible to the way they appeared when posted.

And talking about endeavor database, could you include a feature for looking up all archived PDNs for a certain member number. That would be very helpful for looking up random members who seem to have been active before, but whom I can't recognize based on profile alone.

Merging Endeavor and PPP has been one of my pet pipe dreams for a while. Unfortunately, it will take a good while before I even know how to set up the database structure.

The "closest snapshot" was in effect earlier. Due to the way I am currently having Endeavor and PPP communicate, that went when I put in the privacy functionality in April.

See, PPP makes use of an open API of the Endeavor - it requests a URL and receives XML data. Whenever you visit an archived topic, the member data you see is queried from the Endeavor and parsed. Yes, this is hilariously stupid when they're on the same server. Still, the privacy issue applies: If you don't want your old location to show in the member list, would you be comfortable with it being displayed with your old posts?

And the archived PDN is also on the feature list for Endeavor.

What the heck, I have a week of delicious unemployed freedom. I might work on a few things...

Given that "i.Beat" is about the most cheesy you can get on the scale of imitating brand names, that makes a lot of sense.

Which reminds me of the hilarity that was their user manual. Somebody set up me the iPod.

Edit: It was a present. And I'll bet it was already used when my sister got it two years previously. Walking around with hilariously crappy, outdated electronic gadgets is a fashion statement for me.

Also, make sure in the future that when you bait one of the xenophobic dervishes, you do it out of the reach of innocent townfolk and dispatch him before he kills bystanders. I forgot how many there are, but I know of at least two.

Jeff Vogel released BoE with a very non-restrictive license, so a modification can probably be sold. I didn't read the license, only his summary of it on these forums, but the derivative might not even have to be open-source. Such things are codified in the license. But no, "open source" does not automatically mean you can't sell commercial derivatives.

If you manage to make BoE multi-player, well, power to you. But if you release an actual game, the setting will have to be new - Jeff released the code of BoE, not the world and characters of Exile.

In that context, I guess you can think of Jeff Vogel as Shiva. When he gets involved with the General community, heads usually roll.

Yes. Even if there were more (and the list looks fairly complete), almost all of the gap would just be unused. You don't think that in a building with room numbers, each floor has a hundred rooms? ;)

Edit: Please insert linebreaks into your signature. It completely breaks the page.

Ah, now this brings up a question for which I never got a straight answer out of you last time we talked. Are you a Platonist or not? Because your sentence as it stands is contradictory: either mathematical objects are purely human constructs and the only reason that 2 + 2 = 4 is that we define "2", "4", "+" and "=" so that it must do so (in which case saying "2 + 2 does in fact = 4" is vacuous, because you could just as easily define it to equal 5), or mathematical objects do exist independently of human agency.

Comic relief is sorely lacking in this debate.
