Beyond 10, the number of sides a polygon has gets increasingly difficult to determine, because the angles become so obtuse that by the time you have about 20-30 sides, you're looking at a rough circle.

On that note, I wonder what the name of an irregular 6323-sided polyhedron would be.

Which reminds me that there is a program that adds similar capacity (Window hiding, without it entering the taskbar) to Windows XP, but I can't remember what it was called. It's Freeware, anyway.

While you can't play it in Window mode, it is definitely possible to run it in the background (in Windows, that is, perhaps not on Mac). I've done it myself, and had Word or something else on at the same time. Since it's turnbased, you can leave it running at any time. If you were asking about switching it to the background at very short notice (in my experience that's frequently an issue when doing work at the same time as playing games...) that, too, is easy with Alt-Tab. ;)

Edit: I'm sure I remember you can play Avernum 3 in a window, but I don't know about the others.

Once again, I am the last poster in all active threads today. It bites. If only I were able to measure usefulness or even wordcount of a post... :(

Edit: I didn't this time.

I am aware. "Richard" is just what we shall call Mr Black for now, since we do not wish to blow up this universe and replace it by an utterly rubbish one by uttering his true name (even if we knew it).

However, there is a theory which states that this has already happened some time in the past.

Incidentally, the English pronounciation of "vice" corresponds to the German word for "white" ("weiß"). I smell conspiracy.

Same here. To briefly fall back into "Hyp-speak": I spent my last week flying around in camo and BH'ing whatever planets I could lay hands on. Since I cruised around a bit before then in order to disguise the origin of my fleet, it took the surrounding alliances quite a while to figure out what was going on (I caused some minor diplomatic failures...).
Once I forgot camo while attacking our group's closest ally. I suspect that that is what brought me down. ^_^

http://www.hyperiums.org is a space MMORPG. I played from June 2004 until around February, when I lost all my ships. Briefly restarted in May, but lost interest since.

http://www.nationstates.net is a classic. The game itself is very meagre - you get to create a nation, choosing its name, flag, motto and government type and then decide on certain "issues" that influence the political trend (left/right etc). Much more interesting is the accompanying vast community, the sites that can calculate other fields (like GDP and Arms budget) from the numbers on the site, and the factional/political roleplays on the forum. Incidentally, I think I was alerted to both games by people on this board - the second one somewhere Arena/Desp-related.

I find myself evaluating the parties based on how they stand towards the US or Bush. The wrong approach, maybe, but currently the last we need is someone who sucks up to Dubya.

And in the meantime, because I don't want to start a new thread:

The counters have already been very busy counting our votes for the Federal Elections over here. According to an estimate an hour ago (they're not done yet) 33.7% will go to the SPD (Social Democrats), 35.8% to the CDU (Christian Democrats, or Conservatives), 8.2% to the Greens, 10.3% FDP (Free Democrats, or Liberals) and 8.0% to the Left.

In theory, the CDU and their coalition partner the FDP each win the cake (the CDU is the strongest of the large parties, and the FDP the strongest of the small). In practice, however, neither the Greens nor the Left Party will align with the CDU, but are not unlikely to align with the SPD. What this means is that although the right came out with what BBC calls a "slim victory", they've had a loss in terms of strategy.

I'm not yet sure what to think of that. It's usually easier to judge from the outside than from the inside, and I know more about US politics than I do about German politics.

It's nearly a day late, because of various things keeping me up. (Pied Piper Project among them. Here's a preview of what I'm working on.) Also, I have to hurry now because in a few hours I'm going away to vote! :)

1. Merely 91 members have joined us this month, and 52 of them have posted. It's very little compared to the last months, the summer appears to be over (as well as the GF3 hype?)

Monthly Overview:
April 2005: 151/87
May 2005: 78/43
June 2005: 147/91
July 2005: 153/88
August 2005: 108/62
September 2005: 91/52

2. Our active community is at an all-time low, with 256 posters in the past month. Of these, 52 joined this month and 204 are older members. (This distinction is made because the old members are more likely to post again next month).

Monthly Overview:
April 2005: 360 (273)
May 2005: 262 (219)
June 2005: 325 (232)
July 2005: 352 (264)
August 2005: 293 (231)
September 2005: 256 (204)

3. 5412 posts. Although our active core is at an all-time low, the post traffic is not - each member has posted more. 21.14 posts per member, 174.58 per day, and .682 per member per day.

Monthly Overview:

April 2005: 7576 | 186 | 21 | 0.47
May 2005: 4723 | 169 | 18 | 0.52
June 2005: 7267 | 251 | 22.4 | 0.77
July 2005: 8691 | 271.6 | 24.7 | 0.77
August 2005: 5917 | 190.9 | 20.1 | 0.65
September 2005: 5412 | 174.6 | 21.1 | 0.68

===========================================

This month, I win the game of losing.

1. Arancaytar: 3202. Thuryl: 2743. Thralni: 2514. Ben: 2455. Alorael: 2156. Drakefyre: 1847. Ash Lael: 1758. Kelandon: 1729. Spring: 12610. Archmage Alex: 125The complete rankings are available now.

Oh, and this "Turing Test" that is available elsewhere on the site doesn't respond to me. Perhaps the AI. is busy elsewhere?
