Using the Opening Stone in Blades of Avernum | |

You could use the opening stone in any place with the green glowing gates that cannot be passed through otherwise. The opening stone is also required to get into the Control Chamber in the Altered Beasts sector, but that's just redundant since you must've had the stone to get into the Library, and I think you must have gone there in the first place to get the aforementioned sector. Offhand, I remember there is a section in the Experiment Halls where you can use the opening stone, but you need to get through a tough door. I especially remeber the goodies that were left behind by students many years ago in the Student's Quarters. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. A character's ID is usually only used internally by the game to determine who is traveling with you, and who has died. In every town, monsters that you place in the editor are given numbers to be referred by, ranging from 6 to somewhere around 80. A guard might have an ID of 12, a creature type of 4, but has a town number of 16. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. Due to the differences in compression algorithms (PNGs have basic compression, really, but the multiple filters and number of refinement passes can do wonders), the disadvantage of poor PNG Lib implementation, the possible extra size of 24 - 36 bit palette size, difficulty of pronunciation, and Jeff's insistence on using last generation technology will forever keep this new standard away from his games. I'd like to point out that this topic has practically died for some reason. Does no one have any insight to add? I swear, the moment Jeff comes out with SF3, somebody is going to whine about something that wasn't suggested and not implemented. Zero hour is almost nigh, friends. Use a linebreak symbol |. Might I suggest that you try to break your script testing into smaller portions so you can isolate the problems more easily? Oh yeah, and the version of BoA for Windows that you probably have gives line numbers in an awkward format. Divide the number your get from the game by 2 and add 1 to get the correct line number. Of course, this only applies if your scripts are saved in Windows newline format, if they are formatted Mac style, the line numbers will be fine. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. That is SO stupid. He should've made the game accept gifs, tiffs with compressiong schemas, and the uncompressed formats like BMP for speed. Much smaller on a Mac, I believe, unless Jeff uses uncompressed resource files. They give me horrible rash and ugly pimples, so I tend to avoid them and stroll down Memory Lane in the City-State of Lameness. The Xian Living Tool is a complete fake. The Sylak Lockpick is still a quest, though. Hmmm, rhetorical question. That was a nice classical fallacy you posted, Ben. It was simple as long as you replace all the b variables with the letter a. Or this: 1/3 = .3~ 2/3 = 1/3 + 1/3 = .3~ + .3~ = .6~ 3/3 = 1 = 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 = .3~ + .3~ + .3~ = .9~ The base of numbers really does mess things up, doesn't it? In base 3, 10/3 = .1! EDIT: Wait, I can prove you wrong. When dealing with any real number, a base is just a representation of numbers. Since the symmetrical reflexive property would say that x = x, no matter the base. Note that .1~ is 1/9, but I'll use 1/3 because of familiarity. IN BASE 3: 1/10 = (10/10)/10 = 1 / 10 = .1 Definition of division and the converse of the identity property of multiplication 1/10 * 10 = 1/1 = 1 = 1/10 + 1/10 + 1/10 = .1 + .1 + .1 = 1!! It's item number 467 in the Editor and the game. It's also frowned upon to put several of the same topic across several boards. I'd like some help with this one. get_char_status() and set_char_status() seem to have a problem with blessing (status 1 in the docs) and shielding (status 2 in the docs). For reference: void set_char_status(short which_char_or_group,short which_status,short how_much,short is_forced,short give_update) - Changes status which_status for character/group which_char_or_group by amount how_much. If is_forced is 1, the status is always changed by the full amount. If is_forced is 0 then, for negative statuses, the character’s resistances apply. If the status is forced, no update will be given. Otherwise, an update will be given if give_update is 1. short get_char_status(short which_char,short which_status) - Returns the current value of status which_status for character which_char. If is_forced = 1, then status 1 will affect shielding and status 2 will affect blessing (which it is not supposed to do). Otherwise, it will act according to the docs. But get_char_status() always uses the flipped values, so getting status 1 would return the shielding level, etc... I think this is what is happening, but the different variations to try are numerous. Can anyone deny, confirm, or modify my previous statements? There are no level 3 spells in VoDT, and you probably need more rune reading skill. It is a secondary skill that you can find on your character info screen, and it is usually measured collectively amongst your party. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. Um, cr_summon_level should do the trick. It must be manually set. There is always something you can do to make a monster immune to certain types of attacks, but they will always affect more things that 1 and will have side effects. Giving him cr_immunities 4 = 100; should make him resist Control Mind, and similar confusion spells. To make him un-Simulacram-able, make him species = 12; for special type. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos.
