*I laugh hysterically.* I can do most of the work; I have the time and I know exactly how all of these bugs come to be. You won't need to do too much, though I definitely will need someone to help test my scenario since, like I have said before, I don't have the game at the moment. I'm waiting for their yearly November Sadness Sale :) . I am hoping to do it in the style of the Tutorial, and I will post up the order in which I want the bugs to be demonstrated. I'll E-mail you with the scenario and any other things that are important. EDIT: Don't really do anything until I can come up with a good plan. I am hoping to create a theatrical masterpiece out of this. I added an strange behavior of the game concerning splitting monsters and health. If no one offers to help me with a test scenario for these bugs, I'll just send them as a list like this. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. This would be fine for certain encounters; the ones that are more important or the ones that you think should deserve an unusally large amount of attention. But don't put too many of these in or people will be annoyed. If implemented correctly, it will be a nice change from the same kind of outdoor encounters over and over. I think I shall steal your idea now. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. Assassination can add large amounts of damage, though. If you were to compensate for it, you might have to add hundreds of points of health. But the immunity to lethal blow works, right? As for resistance to petrification, to me that seems important for a Special species. If it is so special, then why can it be stoned out of action in a single gaze? That reminds me, can stone types be petrified? -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. Don't include a call like that in your town script, please. I'd also like to hear what event you have planned for in this town. I understand that Avernumscript can't have all the features of C, but WHY NOT LABELS??? Many things can be simulated with just a little more code, but the lack of a label command is very, very annoying. Does anybody consider the newly discovered bug with the Special species important? -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. It's interesting that just about anyone who gives themself any artistic credit will say that they love sketching and are very good at it. I like to sketch things when I feel like it, whether it be people or inanimate objects. Chairs are nice subjects, and I think the largest scale sketch I have ever done was on a park. I sometimes shade in my favorite ones, but since I don't sketch that often, not many even make it to the shading stage. Faces are annoying for me, so I get out of drawing them somehow. That said, I am very bad at sketching. -------------------- What do I put here? -Garrison Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

That's kind of the point. Let's say you have some code in state 20 that you might want activated upon entrance to the town. Same situation for state 25, but when INIT_STATE calls a set_state_continue(20), the INIT_STATE will exit and state 25 will never be called. I believe the same general idea applies for START_STATE. Oh, and I also found a new bug. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. I don't mind the graphics too much, but Jeff mustn't use the same mentality towards gameplay and advanced combat strategies. Geneforge had very little depth in strategy after a while, and while Avernum tactics are better, there is so much more room for improvement. The turn based system (which needs to have a little more complexity) as well as strange implementations (no real area of effect spells, can't target characters out of party for beneficial spells, Capture Mind can control a Vahnatai Blade) will be the crux of a diminishing Spidweb community. To leave behind graphics and sound requires a very compelling argument of deep gameplay without needless complexity. Ultimately, more flexibiliity with the engine will be needed. Not flashy graphics. -------------------- What do I put here? -Garrison Posts: 1415 | Registered: Thursday, March 27 2003 08:00 |

Stop them from doing whatever is necessary to leave the town. All reduced, there are only 2 ways to leave a town. You can either walk out of it, or use the character editor. Preventing them from walking out is a simple matter. Walls or block_entry() will work. Put something in the START_STATE of the outdoor section that the party would end up in if they left the town through the editor to check to see if the event has occurred in the town. If it hasn't, politely tell them not to use the editor and force them to go back in the town. You can't put them into the town yourself; they have to move their party into the space. But I'm sure, as the designer, you can encourage to do this. :D [ Saturday, September 18, 2004 13:09: Message edited by: Garrison ] -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. I think you should send all the suggestions to Jeff, but highlight the important ones for him. I have a feeling he's only going to implement the ones that fit his whim, so why not send them all and see which ones he likes? If we are to send the bug reports to him as one big chunk as well, I think we might need to make a short scenario illustrating all the errors. I'm going to need some help with that, considering I don't have the full version of the game (yet). -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. I don't think that they even use the basicnpc script that you might put into the scenario. They use the default basicnpc in your \data\ folder that is placed into every new scenario upon creation. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. It's really rather like writing a book with someone. The biggest thing is making it all FIT, and having each person do their job and share of the work. Discontinuity, unfinished work, miscommunication, and untested gaps because neither knew what the other was doing are major ailments. Eh, but 2 people might be able to pull it off. They just need an instant messenger and very, very similar schedules. Very. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. Thank you for spotting another possible (it might be intentional) problem/idiosyncracy of BoA. I have confirmed your observations to be true, and have updated the original post accordingly. The following statement isn't really a bug; it is officially documented. You can't call INIT_STATE from another state, and going to another state in the same script from INIT_STATE is usually a bad idea because you can never go back to the place from which you left off in the INIT_STATE, which is why when you need to do this, put the state in the scenario script. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos. ...you should really be careful of Epic fever. I hope you will be up to be up to creating something this massive. Have you noticed how long it takes to walk across 9 outdoor sections and explore 50+ towns? But if it works and the combat isn't just monster fudging, people will play, I suppose. -------------------- Thuryl: I mean, most of us don't go around consuming our own bodily fluids, no matter how delicious they are. ==== Alorael: War and violence would end if we all had each other's babies! ==== Drakefyre: Those are hideous mangos.
