Ok, so in the mine where I have to get the satchel, there is a secret passage to an anvil which burns me if I touch it and I can't destroy. When it burns me it tells me that the power is far below. Ok I explore the rest of the mine, get the satchel and both sylak keys (I and II, kill the dragon and the rats. Somewhere in the third floor down, there is a huge pitfall, (far below, I assume) so I throw my sorry lot down there. One adventurer survives, from luck. A few potions later, I explore the tomb. after an excessive amount of reloading, I manage to kill both barrow wights. I look in the coffins, there's just some bones, but one has a button which reveals a chest with six wierd rocks that become a special item (the power?) so I go back to the anvil, but it keeps burning me and telling me "not yet, the power is far below", even my character that has faerie blood, if that's supposed to be of any influence. What's the deal with the anvil? (I remember not being able to find what it was in the old nethergate too, in fact, there I never made it past the pitfall :P ) Posts: 126 | Registered: Wednesday, February 26 2003 08:00 |

Personally, I liked the wide variety of spells available in the exiles. Just trying them out was part of the fun. In A4 I hated how haste was one by one... Arcane blow is fabulous, what are you guys talking about? Yes, divine retribution has a bigger pwn area, but rarely is there erver so many monsters that a hasted 2xarcane blow can't handle. Actually, horses in avernum would suck. Horses are expensive, and considering how soft and wonderful avernum ground is, you'd ride through 30 horses in a year. Imagine, if asphalt is bad for their hoofs (even when shoed) what the rocky, pebbly, rotting GIFT-leggly avernum ground would do to them. On another note, there isn't really anything more to do in avernum. the rentar story is basically over. No matter how you look at it, either rentar is out of the picture, or on the surface with another e/a III... Or the darkside loyalist thing which could be a bigger version of the "a small rebellion" scenario.... Rentar dies: Darkside loyalists=only plot left Rentar lives in vahnatai lands: Presumably peaceful rentar leaves only darkside loyalists as a plot, and if she tried again, it would be cheap. Rentar lives in the surface: Exile III part II... I don't think that's gonna happen, leaving the darkside loyalists, again. So that means that, either something new is gonna happen, or the darkside loyalists are gonna be the main event in A V. I wonder how you get avernum adventurers to be empire heroes, maybe AV should be with empire citizens? Or, bring back another classical villain, like Grah-Hoth, or a band of rogue sorcerers steal vahnatai knowledge and make a crystal soul of erika? So anyway I just killed almaria's shade, but found out the people are still hostile towards me. I remember killing some of the archers that shot at me (well hey they started it!). How can I get them to love me again? Posts: 126 | Registered: Wednesday, February 26 2003 08:00 |

Call me a thief, but every time I enter a new town, I talk to everyone I can, and do my best to look into every container available, and then some. Seriously, I can say without hyperbole that all my stuff came from someone else (But then again, blacksmiths are someone else, just like the guard you killed cause you needed a few bolts...) Murdering? well, once I'm powerful enough I take out towns but never save after doing it (try leaving VoDT with nobody alive :D ) I always thought it was stupid that you killed some random guy in a corner where nobody was watching and you suddenly had everyone on your ass. If they deserve it/frequently, I guess. Exile spells? well, I certainly tried them out all at least once to try them out, again, how do they know you casted it? (Especially in places like the tower of magi...) Posts: 126 | Registered: Wednesday, February 26 2003 08:00 |

TM: The only issue I had with LP was the raping of all spells & co. ... That just pissed me off, I play all scenarios with the same party, be them 1-5 or 800-1000. Meh, editor magic can't give you spells past lvl 5 >_< Edit: stupid, stupid me went off topic I voted yes, Most of the original stuff you try works out well kel, so hey, why not. I only read te first few posts, but I have my own theory about this. The universe is said to be ever-expanding, think of another thing that keeps expanding for an indefinite amout of time. That's right, we're a tumor. -------------------- spiderweb soft make an mmorpg! Posts: 126 | Registered: Wednesday, February 26 2003 08:00 |

Not to mention the ruins you decide to ignore in E3/A3 by a river north of fort emergence (You stumble upon a broken ruined city, then realize what it is. It's a city of mystery of some other age you'll never learn about. You leave.) or something like that. Since E1 we've been told Sss-Thss was a worshipper of (a) dark god(s). This is reiterated in basshikava when you're shown how they are banished from the slith homeland for worshipping dark gods and being a pain in the ass. Then there's the big-ass spell they cast to try to rape the steel doors open where it's mentioned that they invoke every god they could think of, including several dark ones. Not to mention the fact that the prophet spent 20 years fasting and meditating and was then contacted by a godess who instructed him to do what he did. I don't think demons are from some other planet, rather, they're from somewhere near the center of the earth. They don't climb up to kick out asses because they don't want to. period. They think it's fun, so they run through the portals when one opens, but they wouldn't go through the trouble of mounting a full-scale invasion because they have better things to do. Now about magic, Priest spells can't be gained through strong belief in something, rather, doing a determined set of stuff does a certain effect (Oh great gods in the sky, channel through me the power to remove this grievous wound from my companion). Mage spells are the same, do this, get that, shout the magic words and fiery lances will pierce your enemies, shout another set and a strong bunch of guys will come to your aid. Another thhing that proves that there are gods is the ritual of sanctification and the natural mage trait. To banish dark energies you need good energies. Guess who lends you them two. The natural mage trait is the best proof there is. The favor of the gods is something that can be gained by being good with a god in another life (or something, but it's granted by a god, so shut up). Undead are simple to explain: You die, and before you can go to the afterlife your soul (or whatever) is caught by a necromancer or some other powerful mage, who then performs the necessary rituals to bind you to him. physical undead (zombies) are just animated corpses. either that or they have the t-virus ;) . Why would a necro want to do this? A)It's more necro-like B)necros tend to be solitary-type C)enslaving humans would bring the attention of the empire, more so than practicing dark arts. And the fact that they wouldn't fight for you if the empire tried to nab your ass. D) Humans are just stupid, undead can follow orders. There it is.
