As closer you live together as more flaws you might discover: small, daily things, unwashed dishes, hairs in the sink, stinking socks on the floor ... Believe me, you might learn things about your beloved that you didn't really want to know. As long you love over a distance there is always promise and hope and yearning. But my favourite director is David Lynch, I love all of his movies. Also I like The Singing Detective - the BBC television version from 1986. It was written by Dennis Potter, mise en scene: Jon Amiel. Now Keith Gordon made a big cinema movie but I doubt that an American copy can be as brilliant as the English original.
