Yes, get back to work Jeff. ;)
quote:I skimmed this new interview and have come to the conclusion that Jeff didn't do anything more than give these people the link to the other interview and let them cobble together a new one. So he probably didn't stop working at all. :P (Ten minutes later:) Okay, I've read it all now. It has a lot of information there that wasn't in the other one. It was nice to read of his early experiences writing games, which I hadn't known about before. All the technical questions were also interesting. The discussion about burnout also was something new. -------------------- The A.E. van Vogt Information Site My Tribute to the Greatest Writer of the Science Fiction Golden Age Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

Yeah, that is pretty rotten. One of my favorite things about Nethergate and the Avernum games was the more 3D feel — staircases, towers, balconies, etc. And one of my least favorite things about the Geneforge games was the Flatland feel. Bah. -------------------- The A.E. van Vogt Information Site My Tribute to the Greatest Writer of the Science Fiction Golden Age Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

You're going to have to visit my website to find out what my name means. Hint: look at the bottom of the main page. And no, contrary to what you may think, the name does not occur in any of A.E. van Vogt's books. I made it up myself. How it became attached to my webiste is a long, boring story. And if I could go back in time and do things differently, I wouldn't associate the word "Icshi" with the website. <end of shameless plug> [ Thursday, October 20, 2005 19:58: Message edited by: Icshi ] -------------------- The A.E. van Vogt Information Site My Tribute to the Greatest Writer of the Science Fiction Golden Age Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

I'll be able to find the Canadian DVDs for sale online. I do business with the Doctor Who Store, an excellent U.S. company. At the moment, they're even selling the British DVDs — compared to that, it'll be a snap for them to sell copies of the Canadian release. -------------------- The A.E. van Vogt Information Site My Tribute to the Greatest Writer of the Science Fiction Golden Age Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

That would be a waste of time. With every day that passes, Richard White's appearance changes. And what makes this really confusing is that it's all retroactive. In other words, what he looked like on October 15th today will not be what he looked like on October 15th tomorrow. So unless this statue has morphing capabilities... Or maybe you can make it one big formless lump that remains open to interpretation. Yes, I think vague is the look we should aim for. Or perhaps an invisible statue. Or none at all — just create the base of the statue, with a nice vague label like "Richard White — Today, Tomorrow, Yesterday, and Today. Still the same, yet never changing. The unpredictability that can be depended on." [ Sunday, October 16, 2005 21:40: Message edited by: Icshi ] Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

Point taken. I would hasten to add, though, that nobody here would know anything about Richard White were it not for his shareware games in general, and the highly disreputable Galactic Core in particular. So I stick my nose up in the air and declare a tentative QED. Also, I should've made it clear that it's only the "elite" corps of White Shock Troops who are mindless fodder to be used and disposed of. Everybody else is invited, nay, required to indulge in nonstop zanny brainy banter. And as far as personal transportation goes — as I mentioned months ago, my mad scientist friend Dr. Thadeus G. Stasislaw Koenigsburg IX was working on building me a Deathcruiser. Well, I'm happy to report that he finished it ahead of time. (Or several years late, depending on how you look at things; he promised it for me a few Christmases ago, but then gave me a revised estimate of Christmas 2007. So it is very late, but also quite early.) I'm going to take it out for a "spin" tomorrow afternoon. Anybody who wishes to come along is free to do so. Just activate your homing implants and I'll teleport you all up from your various and sundry nations as I circle the globe. A couple of months ago I read Bare-Faced Messiah: The True Story of L. Ron Hubbard by Russell Miller, which I highly recommend to everyone. It's downloadable as a free PDF: http://www.holysmoke.org/cos/books/bare-faced-messiah.pdf I feel obligated to point out, however, that the White Cult was created before I read this book — hitherto I was aware of the broader strokes of Hubbard's life and his cash-cow cult but hadn't yet examined the fine print, as it were. It can be said in all fairness that Scientology is indeed the world's first science fiction-based religion. In which case, I suppose we can say that the White Cult is the world's first SF-computer-game-based religion. But the similarities end there. In the White Cult no money changes hands. In the White Cult the number of divinely inspired prophets is anything but "1". In the White Cult nobody has to buy unwanted reprints of books nobody reads (or regrets reading if they do). In the White Cult our leader is something greater than a schizoid middle-aged fogey with delusions of literary grandeur. And most importantly, in the White Cult we don't dress up little girls as miniskirted sailors and have them run around our private renovated cruise ships shouting profanities at the mindwiped sheep who are obsessively scrubbing the decks. For one thing, due to the whole "no money changes hands" part, nobody in the White Cult is rich enough to own a renovated cruise ship. Or even an unrenovated cruise ship. Or even, dare I say it, a rusty motorboat. [ Sunday, October 16, 2005 16:48: Message edited by: Icshi ] Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

A White Shock Troop needs to believe in nothing other than the efficacy of personally-delivered nuclear weapons. No more, no less. In other words you can believe whatever you like, so long as that warhead reaches its destination on time. The White Cult's Shock Troop Department is very broad-minded. No, not exactly. When Forum 6,432,766,349,448,872,395,334,773 arrives, it will be the materio-psionic manifestation of that error in our universe. Once it has materialized, RW will be permanently locked out of the source code, and only Forum 6,432,766,349,448,872,395,334,773 will be able to make changes, propogating the original error out of proportion to transform all of Time and Space into its plaything to torment for all eternity. It is the harbinger of inescapable doom, not the instrument of our salvation. [ Friday, October 14, 2005 21:35: Message edited by: Icshi ] Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

We're living in The Universe 1.0.0, which was its initial release. We're just waiting for the patch. Unfortunately, since Chromite Software (the "front" company for Richard White's Universe Creation Department) went belly-up things are in a bit of a mess at the moment, what with the next version of reality being repossessed by the bank until Chromite's debts are paid. Lawyers got involved soon thereafter. Like I said, messy. I told RW that if he hadn't put off releasing the 1.0.1 patch, he wouldn't have to deal with seized assets and lawyers, since banks and lawyers were two of the things that were giong to be removed with the next update. Another unfortunate aspect of The Universe 1.0.0 is that due to a slight error in line 6,432,766,349,448,872,395,334,773 of the source code, Richard White accidentally imprisoned himself in his own creation. Though he is not strictly bound by its physical laws, he must maintain a degree of "nativeness" in order to avoid litigation. And at this point he needs to keep every cotton-picking New Zealand penny he lays his hands on. Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

Cars kill more people than "Constantinople" would. Yet as I look out my window I still see cars zooming around. Maybe it's a good thing the Turks took over the city and renamed it Istanbul, yes? Remember — "Constantinople" doesn't kill people. People who hear or read "Constantinople" kill people. -------------------- The A.E. van Vogt Information Site My Tribute to the Greatest Writer of the Science Fiction Golden Age Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |

If we made it a universal religion, it wouldn't be a "cult" anymore. Cults are supposed to be secretive and highly exclusive. If everyone were a RW Cult member — well, what would be the fun in that? Posts: 907 | Registered: Monday, July 15 2002 07:00 |
