Requests for future games in Avernum 4

I like the graphics in Avernum 3 best, but prefer the dialogue system of Nethergate.

Geneforge... meh. The world was flat, the terrain graphics were clustered in blocks that looked worse than terrain in the Avernum games, and the super-glossy character graphics jarred somehow with the game world. They looked too good compared with the terrain.

Actually, I found the questions at Political Compass very slanted. There were several questions that no matter how you answered it, you ended up giving an answer you didn't want to give.

EDIT: The Compass also had terminology that made clear the views of the people who created it. They hit my nerves, so I guess the makers' views of the other quiz hit your nerves because they were the opposite of the Compass.

I also find it difficult to accept that somebody might end up being "accidentally" libertarian because they're disinclined to actually read the question and answer it honestly and instead just go down the row clicking "Agree," "Agree," "Agree."

Good grief! Look at us! I've heard people bickering about politics, but never about political quizes...

I read the first two books of Wolfe's series and found it a complete waste of time. Where Vance has mystery and intrigue, Wolfe has clutter and directionless confusion.

There's a much simpler quiz at http://www.self-gov.org/quiz.html. It takes a lot less time, and gives a score very similar to the Political Compass'. The questions here are also easier to understand — some of them over at the Compass were badly phrased, or I couldn't figure out what they were asking — and allows for a "Maybe" choice in addition to the "Agree" or "Disagree" options. In any questionaire there are always gray areas which I'm not comfortable answering without the "Maybe" option.

I got about the same results at both places.

Ferazel's Wand had beautiful art, great music (I imported it all to iTunes and often listen to it just by itself), and fun gameplay. One of my favorites. I used to play it all the time on my "old" iBook running OS 9. It's just too bad that it doesn't work in Classic on my new iMac...

Well, um, considering that you'll undoubtedly download and buy the Windows version, I suggest just waiting a few months. That would be simplest option, though it may not be the most immediately gratifying one.

That artist Alorael alluded to is Andrew Hunter, who still does the character graphics for Spiderweb. Here's a slightly-outdated list of most of the games he's done art for:

I only flip out and go on a murderous rampage when I'm really provoked. You know, like when a shopkeeper is charging too much for his energy elixirs.

I only wish you could steal his wares from his twitching, steaming corpse. Not very realistic, that. Surely he'd still have the stuff on him?

...Or did I accidentally break it all?

Aha! The U.S. government has been hunting for him in the world's telephone directories under the wrong name. No wonder he's never been found.

Ah me, fragile bureaucracies are so easily foiled. The CIA is probably still using an obsolete Arabic-transcription system developed in the 1840s.

Question in Geneforge Series

I've never had stuff on the ground disappear. Whenever there are a maximum number of items on the ground in that zone, the system refuses to accept another dropped item. In other words, I drag the item to the ground area and try to release it, but it "sticks to my hand" and I can only put it back in my inventory.

EDIT: But yes, I did notice a difference in Geneforge 3. Thankfully, the ability to put items in cabinets and so on — which was so handy in Nethergate — made a reappearance in G3. I hope Avernum 4 has the same feature.

And we're also lucky that the Andromeda strain mutated into a non-lethal organism. Close call, that one.

They'd better double the guard on the Roswell stuff, though. And guard the guards. We don't want those Death Rays and Disintigrator Beams falling into the wrong hands. Heck, I don't even like having them in the right hands. Or the left ones.

That's absolutely hilarious.

I just wish the radioactive material that's really missing from Los Alamos had indeed fallen into the hands of such morons.

We should be so lucky...

I like your new name, incidentally. It took me a while to figure out what that came from, but the answer was overwhelmingly obvious once it struck me.

EDIT: I can tell I'm new to this shifting-moniker business. When I see a posting by "IRA Witch Herd" and see text written by myself, it's a bit jarring! It gives me the strange suspision that there's some imposter skulking around out there, plagarizing my gibberish!

Oh, of course! I'd forgotten about Nagas...

It's been a while since I played any Avernum games. Hopefully that situation will be rectified soon with the release of Avernum 4.

EDIT: I now have the word Xel'Naga drifting through my mind. Now then, what's that from?

EDIT #2: Icshi, you idiot! They're the race from Starcraft that created the Protoss and Zerg. As in the phrase "destroy the Protoss encampment and infest the Xel'Naga temple."

EDIT #3: Thanks, Thuryl. You posted while I was smacking myself upside the head and writing EDIT #2.

I'm always surprised at the variety of subject matters covered by Wikipedia.
