In his own mind, it did. On my computer screen, I rather doubt it.

I'm sure if you begin to move in the right circles, you could get involved with Al-Qaeda. The difficult bit is finding the right circles and proving you're fanatically dedicated enough.

I'm not in the least bit certain how I'd want to go. I can see great advantages in either a mildly prolonged but relatively painless death, or something that kills me before I realise what has happened. Again, I'd like to go doing something I believe in, but at the same time I'm aware that means a violent death, and self-preservation is a very strong instinct.

I'm convinced these boards are much kinder than they were. There's a bit of intellectual belittlement, but it's generally only in response to topics begging to be locked or other veteran members. RL means you have left time to insult infrequent posters.

I'm not sure we'll see him back. Don't much care either way, but as far as I can see the boards don't need to change in a big way. Plenty of the members do, but I'm sure if they run headfirst into a wall a few dozen times, they'll sort out most of their problems.

Actually, I think I heard it in Pretty Fly for a Rabbi. Nevertheless, I think that just proves beyond doubt that whoever made the post was in fact a comedic singer.

QLB? I swear that the person who creates a way to use sarcasm over the internet without making it blindingly obvious or getting responses like TGM's will make a fortune.

So far as I know (I did a quick search on some website's Catholic encyclopedia, there was no Pope Henry VIII. Or Henery. Do you mean the king of England?

So far as I know, insulting a group of people then saying 'no offence' is grounds for a good kicking from said group of people. If you're going to make cheap jokes, learn to stand by them.

Tendai, that doesn't work. If that was the plan, the entire Green Party, the heads of the Trade Union movement, liberal commentators and quite possibly the Democrats would be in Guantanamo Bay right now. Well, once they get rid of these mysterious under 16s who "aren't children."

Could be worse

This picture differs significantly from all other pictures of me in that in this one I do not have my trademark Mother of all Stupid Grins face on. A first time for everything, and very welcome too.

Also, those aren't highlights in my hair. That's just sunlight coming in through the window.

The need to work is a leftover from an agricultural society. Before that, man was probably much like any other animal, especially in more equatorial climes. When food or something else vital was needed, he worked. If not, he slept or rested.

Are you being deliberately dense, or do you not realise the difference between homosexual innuendo, and actual homosexuality?

Scorp, they can arrest people now because of the Patriot Act. Before the planes hit, that bill would probably have been murdered, if not by the legislative chambers, then by the press.

I don't see any conspiracy to cause the attack here. It just doesn't seem credible.

I do doubt some of the evidence convicting the hijackers. I've always had (completely unsubstantiated) doubts about the finding of the copy of the Qu'ran at the airport- it just sounds like a cheap ploy, and I'm very doubtful about how one of the hijackers' passports was found somewhere near the wreckage of the towers, as those planes very literally exploded. It would not surprise me in the slightest if, believing they knew who was responsible, certain individuals planted evidence to corroborate this. And if they were right, which it appears they were, I'm not even sure they should be blamed for this, as it would all have panned out the same in the end anyway.

Actually, thinking back, I think I once heard it in a Weird Al song. Then again, the mp3 I've got of it is really poor quality, so I could have misheard it.

I'm always rather distrustful of the hirsute. This is directly related to the fact that my father numbers among them and I think as he does and greatly resemble how he looked when he was my age.

I'm pretty sure it equates to ass, arse and similar nouns. I'm also pretty sure I've never seen it used in something written since 1980.

The benefit system is screwed up beyond belief. Here in Britain, I get the same amount of benefit for my diabetes as an adult asylum seeker does per week (actually, 60p more.) That's not to say that my benefits should be cut, but I won't need to use them for quite a while and they'd be better replaced with money as and when needed.

Benefits tend to be a narrow line between keeping people fed and encouraging them to work. Although to be honest, I don't see why that has to be done. If a scoiety can get by with fewer jobs but still pay a living wage to those who don't work, I don't see a problem with that.

No doubt that last sentence made some kind of sense. But the fact is, I should be revising for GCSEs now and I'm just killing time.

Noone is daft enough to let you mod not due to your supposed 'insanity' but because you have an inflated sense of self-importance and absolutely nothing worth hearing.

The US is much more economically prosperous and stable than the USSR because the dollar is the world's favourite currency. So much trade is done in dollars that the US can effectively print money and maintain its debt without hyperinflation taking hold.

The sex laws in Britain are a mess. Up until around 1830, I'm led to believe that non-vaginal sex, whether heterosexual or homosexual, was a death penalty crime.

They're reforming them now, however, and aside from a few issues which might unintentionally criminalise naturists, it should make a coherent set of laws.

I've found a picture of me on the computer but as I lack the webspace to upload it to, I can't show it to you unless you IM me or want it emailed to you.

It was taken when I was setting up my dad's digital camera. He still hadn't (hasn't) really learnt how to use it, and there's also a particularly nice looking blurred shot of one of the dogs sitting at the top of the stairs. Why is it nice looking? I don't know, but it's probably something to do with the way the colours meld together.

The Puritan work ethic is, as far as I can see, mostly a British things (which makes sense- the Puritans were an Anglican sect.) Although it also seems to be present in some parts of Northern Europe, so I suppose it's more of a 'Protestant' work ethic. Although some of the laziest people I know are those who are still Protestant. I'm one of them.

Could someone briefly explain to me how St Augustine's decision that humans do not have free will works? Also, is it still adhered to in the Catholic Church or indeed any other Church?

Hey, Ayn Rand represents many things that are good about America.

Like the opportunity a poor Russian immigrant has to succeed. And... nah.

See you at Desp, Micah.
