"Sam sat propped against the stone, his head dropping sideways and his breathing heavy. In his lap lay Frodo's head" -- Lord of the Rings Just curious, has anyone else noticed the strong innuendo behind this? It causes me to run in great fear and terror. -------------------- Song of the Pack -- An Online Multiplayer Wolf RPG!~ Posts: 223 | Registered: Friday, October 26 2001 07:00 |

It is just a quotation from one of my favourite books. I suggest that you read it. -------------------- Grammar wenches beware: This is the house that the malt that the rat that the cat that the dog that the cow that the maiden that the man that the priest that the cock that the farmer kept waked married kissed milked tossed worried killed ate lay in. Enchantment of Snow *runs screaming* MODEDIT : This link is not safe for school/work, small children, or anyone offended by slash. However, plenty of warning is given, so misclicks won't be fatal. ...on Feran's insistence, I must note however that despite this, the story is still good. That was a lot better than I expected it to be. -------------------- Grammar wenches beware: This is the house that the malt that the rat that the cat that the dog that the cow that the maiden that the man that the priest that the cock that the farmer kept waked married kissed milked tossed worried killed ate lay in. I am not going to comment on his enjoying that. Well, on second thought, the story was overall not too bad, I suppose, except for the fact that homosexual intercourse is not generally accepted in today's society. I do think Tolkien was writing in more innocent (pre-Profumo) times for a more innocent audience. Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

The quote is, of course, taken horribly out of context. -------------------- Grammar wenches beware: This is the house that the malt that the rat that the cat that the dog that the cow that the maiden that the man that the priest that the cock that the farmer kept waked married kissed milked tossed worried killed ate lay in. Hrm, I don't know that I liked that story too much. maybe it's just that even though there's plenty of Sam/Frodo innuendo, I've never been able to picture them together. -------------------- Dragyn Bob "Abandon all hope, ye who enter here!"-The Divine Comedy Posts: 1481 | Registered: Thursday, September 27 2001 07:00 |

Tolkien was the product of a far more repressed time. He probably couldn't even see the innuendo present. —Alorael, who could also interpret the quote as a Freudian insertion due to the aforementioned repression. But that is unnecessary, is it not? I liked the story. It was much better than that Digimon stuff that Imban posts, but not nearly as funny :P -------------------- "At times discretion should be thrown aside, and with the foolish we should play the fool." - Menander ==== Drakefyre's Demesne - Vahnatai Did Do It desperance.net - We're Everywhere The Arena - God Will Sort The Dead ==== You can take my Mac when you pry my cold, dead fingers off the mouse! What's wrong with slash? I happen to think there's quite a bit of Sam/Frodo innuendo in the trilogy, and that it was intentional. Oscar Wilde had to disguise his homosexual innuendo in stories so that stupid people who condemn homosexuality without knowing anything about it wouldn't get it and arrest him (although they did, eventually...) Perhaps it was the same with Tolkien, but he was simply better at hiding it? After all, it's being said nowadays that Tolkien and C.S. Lewis were more than just friends...it's a possibility, no? Or maybe I am reading too much into it, and Sam and Frodo's relationship is perfectly platonic. It's entertaining for people like me who enjoy slash to think it's something more, though, which is why I do it. -------------------- "Man hands down misery to man. It deepens like a coastal shelf. Anything is possible. Then again, Tolkien was a devout Catholic and probably viewed homosexuality negatively. If he was gay himself, any reference to it in his works is almost certainly accidental. And if he was and didn't know, then it's the Freudian slips! —Alorael, who also has to say that he has seen worse NC-17 fanfiction as well. At least it was written by someone who is familiar with the basic workings of the English language and the meaning of capitalization. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

No, you're just horny, I'm sorry. Don't play with Daddy's viagra, ok honey? [Edit:] This was pointed towards RoR, but Alorael can take some too if he wants. quote:That aint viagra thats their normal state... what is the context that the quote came from? I love that book but I cant remember where that happaned. I think they were running away from something/someone, as always in that book, and found a place to rest, not do you know what! And also, talking about Lord Of The Rings, the movies aren't half bad (so far...). [EDIT:] who's RoR? Rider of Rohan... Mourning for the Marchwarden... Little Miss Agoraphobia... Teh Grammar Wench... yeah. Her. Anyway, those two aren't gay, ok? The book was written at a time when men wore short shorts and tight shirts, and when people didn't hear some oy say "Hi" to another and automatically yell, "Eww, you're gay!" You people are either a) paranoid (see above) or b) trying to prove that since Frodo likes to pack fudge, it's ok if you do as well. I'm kidding. Are you being deliberately dense, or do you not realise the difference between homosexual innuendo, and actual homosexuality? Posts: 1000 | Registered: Thursday, October 11 2001 07:00 |
