20/X vision means that you see as well at 20 feet as a 'normal' person can at X feet. Dikiyoba's 20/200 uncorrected vision means that without lenses she is, roughly speaking, blind as a bat. I'm not sure I'm quite that bad, but I'm in the same league. My dad told me he once met someone who claimed to have 20/10 vision, which I think is possible but near the limit for humans. The guy was a fighter pilot (for the RCAC people here: a CF-18), so that would make sense. Luckily I don't need them, but if I did I'd go with contacts. -------------------- "There are no turtles anywhere" Ponder Stibbons One, Two, Three, Pfhor, Five… Avernum 2 AM Status - Maps - Tomb of Dahris-Bok - Annotation - Fort Draco/Ganrick Spider/Areana Caves I lick this mage Posts: 74 | Registered: Friday, March 17 2006 08:00 |

I have both contacts and glasses. I usually am too lazy to take a few seconds to put in contacts every day, so I wear glasses mostly. I wear contacts when I'm going to play sports, or when I need to look particularly fly. :P -------------------- "Heart of Earth located in Europe, Ass of Earth located in USA." I have both, In high school I primarily wore the contacts even though they bugged the hell out of my eyes (I already have dry eyes and contacts don't help). After I got to college, 5 minutes of putting in contacts turned into 5 minutes of extra sleep and since then I primarily wear glasses. If I'm going out for the night or something I'll still throw in the contacts. I find it's useful to have both and I use the contacts so infrequently that a years worth of contacts lasts me 5. Luckily my prescription hasn't changed in 10 years or so, hoping that stays true. -------------------- http://www.goozex.com/trading/asp/join.asp?idr=412684821 alexkaltsas.com Posts: 145 | Registered: Sunday, February 18 2007 08:00 |

No glasses or contacts here, and I've always felt insecure about it. Myopia is, after all, linked to education and high IQ. —Alorael, who now supposes it may be linked to obnoxiousness. On the other hand, obnoxiousness may just be linked to the internet, which would surprise no one. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

There are far more reasons than that for my behavior. Contacts (hard lenses) and glasses here, depending on my work. Recently got "cool" glasses, but I'm not allowed out of the house, so I don't wear them much. -------------------- Synergy, et al - "I don't get it." What do you mean by not allowed out of the house? That sounds bad. -------------------- Let's all just shape gazers and hope it goes away. I make guacamole at work Posts: 454 | Registered: Monday, August 20 2007 07:00 |

Salmon's just embarrassed the he got put under house arrest for indecent exposure while fishing. Apparently it's illegal to moon fish in Oregon. The fish got their revenge though. One spit a hook and it got caught in Salmon's nekkied butt. He had to have it removed at Urgent Care. -------------------- You acquire an item: Radio Free Foil Posts: 1169 | Registered: Monday, September 23 2002 07:00 |

Athletes also sometimes have incredible vision. Theoretically, I have glasses. I haven't worn them in over a year, and I'm not even sure where they are. I am very mildy near-sighted. I only need glasses to read things that are more than 100 or so feet away. Even then, if it is large enough, I can still read it. Since I don't drive, the need to read things that far away is hardly pressing, and since my vision is fine aside from that, I never wear said glasses. Also, they make me look about 5 years younger, and as a 21-year-old who still gets carded for R-rated movies, I can do without anything that make me look younger. :P -------------------- "Dumbledore returns from the dead and declares it to be hammertime, Harry proceeds to break it down, Voldemort is unable to touch this." —Dintiradan Spiderweb Chat Room Avernum RP • Summaries • OoC • Roster Shadow Vale - My site, home of the Spiderweb Chat Database, BoA Scenario Database, & the A1 Quest List, among other things. I have glasses, and pretty strong ones too; without them, my range of accurate vision can be measured in centimeters. If I took them off now, I couldn't read what I'm writing without sticking my nose to the monitor. As it is, I don't have contact lenses, and probably will never have. The reason is, my job includes lots of electric arc welding. If you look at the arc with contacts (and without a mask), the UV-rays can melt them into your eyes. Besides, normal glasses are handier anyway. -------------------- Life is a neverending carneval where everyone has multiple costumes. I just hope mine are pleasing to the eye.
