We've heard the cry for help from Aran for months now. Posting is way off. Spiderweb is not attracting new members. People drift away. People don't post. Well, people are posting as much as they care to post. But, as Aran would point out, if he were secretly editing this post to reflect his reality instead of mine, the numbers need to bear witness to our posting. So the question I put forth, is how many posts per day will appear as the final number on November the 17th, 2006? Last month it was 85. Currently it is well over 200. Clearly it will be a whole number, likely over 30, likely under 10,000. So I give you a poll, and the winners achieve the anonymous notoriety of knowing numerical knighthood. Or something. Maybe a round of huzzahs from the huzzahing crowd. :) Edit - For the record, I told the ubb demon to stop the poll at 12am on the 15th. Somehow it works on a different timezone than the board is set to display. Odd. [ Wednesday, October 25, 2006 08:51: Message edited by: Spookee Salmon ] Poll Information This poll contains 1 question(s). 32 user(s) have voted. 151-175. However, I would prefer the numbers to be higher. I hit an internal server error when I tried to vote. I hope this isn't some sort of omen. -------------------- I tried to think of something witty to put here. Needless to say, I failed. Posts: 2686 | Registered: Friday, September 8 2006 07:00 |

Yes, it is set to reject certain votes. Sorry about that. Diebold is aware of the issue and assures me that they have their top technical team creating a fix. Also, could someone report on the viewability of poll results prior to voting? I set that option to allow for voters to be influenced by votes already cast, and wonder if it actually works. Thanks. Edit - Regarding Poll answers. March of 2006 had 270 posts per day (PpD) and was the highest I could find. 150 PpD is more "normal" in a non-release atmosphere. Anything in the 300+ range would be considered (use the voice here)EXTREME TO THE MAX!!!!. I personally predict a slight slump from the current trend, calling it at an average of 151-175 posts per day. I'm not sure that we can keep this up forever. And I want to be wrong. -------------------- The Silent Assassin believes that self-fulfilling prophesies are only what we make from them. I predict 180 posts per day. And I can centuple-post if it becomes necessary to ensure correctness of my prediction. :P -------------------- Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword, For it too has the power to kill. Wow... I certainly lowered the average vote. I don't think we'll keep up the insane pace for too long, and I bet we'll drop back into the 125-150 range eventually. That said, I like this community, and I like it more when it's active. So I hope I'm wrong, basically. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. You know, at the rate we've been going, we're going to pass last month's total before the weekend begins. I mean, we're only about 800 posts off of it. But the strange thing is, nobody new seems to have joined yet. -------------------- Gamble with Gaea, and she eats your dice. I hate undead. I really, really, really, really hate undead. Yea, people are posting a heap this month. So far since the stats were posted I think I have posted more than in the last 2 months combined. Hell, I may even reach 20 posts :P . Posts: 776 | Registered: Friday, July 4 2003 07:00 |

It's too bad that no one new joined. There might be a lot more posting, but it's the same 70ish people. We need some newbies. I voted for 176-200, but there probably will be a slump when we get bored of talking about the same things over and over. -------------------- You acquire an item: Radio Free Foil Posts: 1169 | Registered: Monday, September 23 2002 07:00 |

quote:Correction. We need some more posting newbies. Like me, for example. The reason I say this is that about 6500 people (according to Aran's stats.) have joined the Spiderweb Software boards, yet they only post once or twice, and then they're done. In fact, we have new newbies joining every day, but hardly any of them post. -------------------- I tried to think of something witty to put here. Needless to say, I failed. That's what I ment, Nicoa. Why join a forum and never post? That's just silly. But at least they aren't annoying. [ Wednesday, October 25, 2006 15:06: Message edited by: Andraste ] -------------------- You acquire an item: Radio Free Foil Posts: 1169 | Registered: Monday, September 23 2002 07:00 |

Am I the only one that prefers less posting overall? I suspect I will drop many places this month simply because I do not enjoy spamming as much as many of you seem to. -------------------- You lose. Posts: 2156 | Registered: Thursday, August 24 2006 07:00 |

quote:All Spidweb games have already been discussed to death. There are detailed walkthroughs for each game, answering all but the most arcane questions. It's been many months since the last SW game was released. There is simply not much on-topic stuff to talk about. This means we can either let the activity die down and members wonder off to other forums, or use the general boards as a public chatroom. I know that these boards directly generated at least one sale for Spiderweb Software, so they are probably worth the bandwidth we waste with our ramblings. :) -------------------- Be careful with a word, as you would with a sword, For it too has the power to kill. The members who join and never post are what we call invisible newbies. They tend to get eaten by Arctic, who isn't here anymore. Why? Maybe because it's a good season for invisibile newbies. —Alorael, who also has heard disturbing rumors of other causes of absence. He'll ignore all such until forced to do otherwise.
