I'm just curious what secret phobias everyone here has. I was going to make a poll, but there are too many to count. And please tell me what the phobia means? Use this page if you need help. Myself, I have autophobia, which means fear of being alone. Anyone else want to share theirs? Posts: 587 | Registered: Tuesday, April 1 2003 08:00 |

Fear of spiders, a common one, aka arachnephobia. Um...I think it's a common phobia. It's kind of a minor phobia to me; I can still look and touch spiders normally. If an entire room was full of spiders, then I'd probably panic. The only other major phobia that I'd have on the list would be altophobia, or fear of heights. By heights, I mean several tens of thousands of feet, not 10 story buildings. (Ex: Sky diving or bungee jumping off an airplane) [ Friday, August 05, 2005 16:01: Message edited by: Jeros ] -------------------- "Truly, if there is evil in this world, it lies in the heart of mankind." -Edward D. Arachnephobia... at least I think so. I also have some weird thing about being touched (by other people) on my stomach area or my neck. I know, I know... no one likes being touched on the neck, but I'm especially weird about it. I'm also, and I'm dead serious, hylephobic - the fear of materialism. Doctors say it's because of past experiences, poor ones involving materialistic people. [ Friday, August 05, 2005 16:30: Message edited by: demonslaeyr ] -------------------- The critics agree! quote:WTF My phobias: -Achluophobia (or Lygophobia, or Nyctophobia, or Scotophobia) - fear of darkness (I didn't have this one until I started playing Resident Evil. Curses!) -Necrophobia (I know, I know, I should worry more about living things than dead things. I'm not afraid of them, I just think they're gross, especially dead bugs. Maybe a better word would be Seplophobia - fear of decaying matter. Dead mice I'm used to because I have cats. There's a cat skeleton outside my fence. I wanted to keep the skull but my mother said no.) -Teratophobia - fear of bearing a deformed child (Okay, maybe not. First, that seems to apply only to females, and second, it's mostly only Harlequin fetuses. But damn, those Harlequin fetuses are creepy.) When I was very young, I had Androphobia (or Arrhenphobia, or Hominophobia) - fear of men, and (I still don't understand my reasoning behind this one, and there doesn't seem to be a word for it, so I'll make one up.) Nyctophalloscelerophobia - fear of penis burglars in the night (don't ask). Acro/altophobia (fear of heights) Aichmophobia (fear of needles or pointed objects) Angrophobia (fear of anger or of becoming angry) Anuptaphobia (fear of staying single) Apiphobia (fear of bees) Arachnophobia (fear of spiders) Automysophobia (fear of being dirty) Caligynephobia (fear of beautiful women) :P Catapedaphobia (fear of jumping from high and low places) Decidophobia (fear of making decisions) Entomophobia (fear of insects) Ergophobia (fear of work) Hypengyophobia (fear of responsibility) Social Phobia (fear of being evaluated negatively in social situations) All of those apply, to greater or lesser degree. A few of them are frankly marginal, but I've listed them anyway. [ Friday, August 05, 2005 19:07: Message edited by: Stugri-La ] -------------------- Stughalf "Delusion arises from anger. That's funny... I love beautiful women. And strangely, I'm not afraid of heights. Or speaking in public. Or tight places. All of these are supposedly the most common phobias. -------------------- The critics agree! Demonslayer is "a five star hit!" raves TIMES Weekly! "I've never heard such thoughtful comments. quote:Of course I love beautiful women as well. I'm also just a little bit afraid of what they're capable of. I'm afraid it stems from a personal weakness of mine; I'm pretty much clay in the hands of any attractive woman that knows what she's doing. Of the three most common afflictions you listed, I only suffer from the first. I find tight places cozy, actually, and prefer to speak in front of a large audience than to one other person or a small group. My phobias seem to be the same as Stughalf's, with a few removed, and few are at a level where they affect my life. Acro/altophobia (fear of heights) Aichmophobia (fear of needles or pointed objects) Anuptaphobia (fear of staying single) Arachnophobia (fear of spiders) Catapedaphobia (fear of jumping from high and low places) Decidophobia (fear of making decisions) Ergophobia (fear of work) Hypengyophobia (fear of responsibility) My favorite wierd phobia is, aichmorhabdophobia : A fear of being beaten with a pointed stick. -------------------- Important Information about Stuff Posts: 258 | Registered: Wednesday, March 9 2005 08:00 |

I don't really have any true phobias, but I'll say… Aichmophobia- Fear of needles or pointed objects. Angrophobia - Fear of anger or of becoming angry. Apiphobia- Fear of bees. Spheksophobia- Fear of wasps. Trypanophobia- Fear of injections. -------------------- Nena Posts: 2032 | Registered: Wednesday, January 26 2005 08:00 |

I have a rediculous fear of papercuts. I mean, just minutes ago I crashed my bike while going 80kph but I'd much rather that than a paper cut. Posts: 776 | Registered: Friday, July 4 2003 07:00 |

Novercaphobia- Fear of your step-mother. Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia- Fear of long words. Levophobia- Fear of things to the left side of the body. Leukophobia- Fear of the color white. Urophobia- Fear of urine or urinating. Phallophobia- Fear of a penis, esp erect. (had to put that one in) ^Some silly ones. I don't really have a phobia, but that does not mean I'm not scared of anything. I guess the closest I would get to one on the list would be Achluophobia- Fear of darkness. I don't really like being alone in the dark. -------------------- Mugglenet--The ULTIMATE Harry Potter Site. Polaris-- New location. Posts: 2396 | Registered: Saturday, January 29 2005 08:00 |

I was on the beach. The only damage that happened was a broken front mud guard. Also today I crashed again after getting about 2m high air. My bike is a CT185 and believe me those things are hard to kill. Also, about damage to me, I only have sore ribs, and cuts (and a burn) on my leg. Crashing a motorbike on the beach is fine because you barely ever get hurt. I've never been hurt in any way that doesn't allow me to get back up and carry on driving. You were biking at 80 kph? That's impressive! I suffer from phobias regarding injections and incisions of all kinds, a dislike of water bordering on phobia, the common fear of public speaking that really isn't phobic, and such a crushing Greek phobia that I can't bear to find the proper terms for any of these. —Alorael, who also has a non-phobic fear of blood-sucking insects because they have a truly unfair predilection towards chowing down on him over the opportunity to munch on others. It's really not fair. Posts: 14579 | Registered: Saturday, December 1 2001 08:00 |

quote:It's a motorbike, as mentioned above. And I am guessing it was about 80kph (my speedos broken), because I was in 5th gear and my bike wasn't going much faster. Yea, I know, my bike maxing out at 80kph on the flat is pretty pathetic. Occasionally it can get to about 130 down a hill though. Posts: 776 | Registered: Friday, July 4 2003 07:00 |
