The moderation staff of General still by and large reflects the days when a separate SW misc board existed. Mind, General now is nothing like Misc then, but at the same time, it's nothing like General then either. Elections were pretty neat, and would be fun to have again. I don't know if we'd want to have the previously elected mod step down (*cough* Alorael *cough*) or ask a mod who uses his/her powers relatively little in General nowadays to do so (*cough* Schrodinger *cough*), or even if the administration is amenable. I wasn't around in the time of Misc. but from what you say these mod elections sound interesting. Maybe we could have some sort of mock election, you know, make a poll entitled "Who do you want to be a mod" or something along those lines with all (most, some) active members listed as the answers....I dunno, just an idea. -------------------- I am the apidimy of seven sausages. Are there strong arguments against the feasibility of just adding to the moderation staff without having a current moderator step down? Aside from that, I don't see why not. Do your schools have elected student governments? If they do, you have a pretty good idea of what "moderator elections" on this board would look like. As for more practical aspect, there is a reason Misc forum was shut down. I can recall three elections, and two of them went well. One of them had a slightly conspiratorial aspect, but it was all clean. If I recall correctly, during the last election, those nominated to run had to have at least 50 posts.
