If any of you know of any good RPGs that I could purchase (or, in the case of Christmas, have purchased for me)?
Thanks in advance!

(PS- Don't recommend SW ones, I already have the lot of 'em)

For computer or consoles? For the computer I would suggest World of Warcraft, the Blizzard MMO. It has a monthly fee and a pretty hefty purchase price, but everyone I've talked to said it's worth it. Also the Forgotten Realms games are pretty good, ie. Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale, Baldurs Gate. Not many nowadays are doing turn-based battles though.

Although, not a roleplaying game. This is a fantasy strategy game Age of Wonders: Shadow Magic. There are some roleplaying elements-- hero units, etc.

For PC, I still maintain the best are Fallout 1 and 2, but I think you said once that you already had them, so I'm gonna make a recommendation of Baldur's Gate I & II.

As for MMOs, I still recommend Neocron over pretty much everything else, up to and including World of Warcraft.

But I've been obsessing over old SNES and Genesis RPGs lately, so my recommendations are slightly skewed.

If you are willing to go for an MMO, you can't beat World of Warcraft.

Traditional... I'd say KotoR. Or try Morrowind if you want something a little different.

Shining Force 1 and 2, for SEGA Genesis. The plots aren't particularly deep and full of philosophy (they're "kill the evil guy" games), but they're still fun and the battles require good strategy. I've also played Shining In The Darkness, its predecessor, and Shining Force 3, but SITD is literally a big labyrinth, and SF3 is for SEGA Saturn and only 1/3 translated into English (although the third that is is awesome and has much better battles than SF1+2). I hope they finish translating it.

If you have an Nintendo 64, get one of the greatest if not the greatest game of all time, "Ogre Battle 64: Person of Lordly Calibur."

If not, I'd recommend something by Black Isle.

Earthbound for the Super Nintendo. It's on the DS in Japanese now with its prequel as "Mother 1+2" or something like that, one of the two games in one cartridge things, so maybe they'll release it here too.

This is the top 100 list from rpgdot.com . I have found it to be pretty accurate. I found out about Arcanum from here and it makes me want to get Fallout 1 & 2. RPGdot.com Top 100 list

Vagrant Story for the Playstation 1.

Earthbound as someone already mentioned, but get it for the Snes, as youll be waiting a while for the DS version.

Parasite Eve for the PS1, and possibly its sequel, though i've only ever played the first.

Super Mario rpg and the Paper Mario series. Xenogears, but not Xenosaga.

That enough for now? :)

Shining Force 1 and 2, and earthbound.
Earthbound is a bloody masterpiece!
And of course KotOR is a must.

Augh!

That list is so...so...WRONG!

Fallout above Fallout 2? Okay, I can live with that.

Morrowind on the list THREE TIMES? Please, no.

Final Fantasy 11 above Baldur's Gate, System Shock, Final Fantasy 8, and almost all of the Ultima games?

Hell, most of the games on that list aren't even RPGs.

Planescape: Torment. Simply fantastic, if you're more into deep dialogue and a fantastic atmosphere than into meaningless action.

The way I see it, any RPG list that doesn't have BoE as its number one entry is at least somewhat wrong.
But I'm noticeably biased.

"noticeably" Hah!

Well really the only thing that makes BOE a good RPG is it's fan-base (ie, designers).

(In case that's what you're getting at, noticeably is spelled thusly...)
I'll be blunt. If each prominent designer could make his/her own released game, then the entire RPG community would be completely run down.

The point is not to be perfect but to pick out the ones you like. I think it provides a good outline.

It claims, "Deus Ex combines elements of a 3D shooter with RPG traits."

After a glance at the site, though, I tend to agree with you. I like RPGs. I don't like FPSs. I don't think I'd like Deus Ex. Therefore, it seems like more of a FPS than a real RPG. :P

I'll second Planescape: Torment, if you can find it - it was a pretty good time, and would likely be up your alley.

I seem to recollect that you dislike FF, but I know you like anime, so if you have a GC you may want to check out Tales of Symphonia. I rented it last week, and enjoyed it pretty well.

I also recommend Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, not as an RPG, but as a great game in a hallmark series.

If you have just the PC, I would also recommend Icewind Dale 2 (especially over either BG), and if your PC is beefy enough, Temple of Elemental Evil.

I don't play FPS games, but I enjoyed Deus Ex. But generally, PC has very few good RPG's. You might want to try Arcanum, it is similar to Fallout, but I never got very far in the game myself. Baldur's Gate II is nice, and there are lots of mods to play around with. And even more coming. Most of the games I have played have already been mentioned.

If you feel like playing MMO's, then sucks to be you. It can be hard to find the one you enjoy, and there are many to chooce from.
