Little bit of a Final Fantasy fiend are we? All good names, but considering they're all stolen from other games... Couldn't you come up with something more original? I call mine Nyssa, which is greek for "a beginning". -------------------- And the Glory of the Light did shine upon him. And the Peace of the Light did he give men. Binding nations to him. Making one of many. Yet the shards of hearts did give wounds. And what was once did come again -in fire and in storm splitting all in twain. I use names of characters I had on the MUD I used to play - they came from a variety of sources (including people I know, tv, books, and a baby name website). Some of the names are Kyna, Tarn, Annika, Embeth, Azhure, Rivkah, Tirzah, and Hamble. Hamble was a lot of fun - only Brits and other Aussies recognised the source of the name, and her warcry was the theme song of the children's TV show she's from. It was always fun to see her warcry terrorise the target EDIT: ack, another typo. I name them for their role (i.e. mage, clerc, clerc-magi, warrior, trader…), but as I like to have a little of everything and one major skill it is very handy at first and then you can rename them (if I read mage active, I will probably not make this one attack). Else, as far as I am concerned, I tend to name my Playing characters by paper RPG PCs names and I get these for their meaning (Camille, young man, make a good Geneforge name) or I take the PCs name of friends (it can be quite fun to let them die) One of my friend name them as her cats and stop playing one if the cat dies, I don't say you to do it as you may dislike cats and her exile partys are strange: 1_ Celim first generation, good stats, good level 2_ Roxanne second generation, replace Sulky, medium 3_ ***** Mirabelle, second generation is lost 4_ Kaiser third generation low stats and level 5_ Sprite second generation same as Roxanne 6_ Amanda first generation good stats and level I know it is not really an answer but it would have taken a huge amount of time to name my 52 most common names. Thank you for reading this far. -------------------- /Seawinds are calling Posts: 187 | Registered: Thursday, August 14 2003 07:00 |

Maybe you can name them after celebrities, here are my favorites : - Vassili Zaïtsev for a great archer - Lez-Breiz for a warrior - Alan Kardec for a mage - Jean Paul X for a clerc (or any pope's name and number) I guess you have got the point Thank you for reading the corrected version of this post. Poor Thuryl. I tend to name characters in some permutation of "Djur." Ever since I got on my Portuguese kick, another name I've liked has been "Nascimento." I tend to name females "Valentine" if possible; yes, I'm a huge OSC fanboy. Although once when I was playing MS Hearts at school, I named my opponents Eddie Vedder, Kurt Cobain, and Layne Staley. Heh. I had an entire Avernum party of Djurs once. Fallout characters of mine are always None, the character with no name. Single-character god parties are "Kreuzfahrer." Of course, I also tend to sometimes throw in Arena characters of mine; Akbok and Altin from the old days; the Quin dynasty, Arakt, Akbaa, Maaya... I usually name all my characters after body parts, especially the naughty bits. It makes me snicker. Or characters from bad 80s cartoons, such as Schmendrick or Orko. -------------------- ... Posts: 647 | Registered: Wednesday, February 19 2003 08:00 |

This being TM, I guess it comes from Steely Dan. I'm just surprised he's never had a character named Kid Charlemagne. -------------------- Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned I'll tell you my story, man Though I wish I'd never been born I'm loose at the seams, I've broken my dreams And my hand it shakes the pen Come on, come on now baby, Let the good times roll again Posts: 961 | Registered: Thursday, June 12 2003 07:00 |

Kurodo? You mean Akabane Kurodo, aka "Doctor Jackal", who hurls around Ceramic Throwing Daggers and his Bloody Sword on GetBackers (a free and legal sub which can be downloaded here for however long it's unlicensed)? No, not a Steely Dan reference. -------------------- We're all amazed but not amused By all the things that you said you'd do. At first, I named them after pets, for the most part. Now I just use the names of characters from my future games. Right now, I'm using Tsssss (a slith spearman), Carol (human macewoman), Rothidir (human swordsman), Nicholas (human mage), Hrrfmrrrr (nephil archer), and Mary (human priestess). -------------------- My BoE graphics archive is finally getting started! I usually name them after characters from fantasy books I'm currently reading, so "Aragorn", "Ce'Nedra", "Rand al'Thor", etc. are some names I use. In my scenario, I just make up some names, it's not too hard. -------------------- "And all should cry, Beware, Beware! His Flashing eyes, his Floating hair!" S. T. I usually name them after my cats (you really don't want to know... I mean, can you say "Gadhdiddiu" or "Djadji", "Shoggediugs" maybe? really those are my cats' names) I'm thinking about naming my next characters: Hircania* (mage, female), Aria* (cleric, female), Giovanni (warrior, male) and Piotr (archer, male). *: Once I was looking at a map of the persian region in the History classroom, and there were three zones: Hircania, Partia and Aria. I thought Hircania and Aria were cool names, but maybe a bit too weird for real persons. It was a map in Spanish, so I don't know if the names are the same in English. I bet you're still laughing at my cats' names. I'm ok with that though. -------------------- GET YOUR HANDS OFF MY TOMATO! Posts: 367 | Registered: Sunday, December 23 2001 08:00 |

X is a good name, of course, but characters tend to gert called Quentin, Tarquin, and other rather posh, gay-sounding names (no 'Doug's though!) as my satire on heroic fantasy conventions. Posts: 2333 | Registered: Monday, January 7 2002 08:00 |

I have this random name generator which I use to make up my names sometimes. I played through E3 with such-made names (I believe they were Cazatire, Seneroth, Kuch, Ku'Apaabr, Xoenguage and some other similar-sounding name... ) Just so that you know, Djur you sound kinda sad for naming them all the same, and what is up with your cat's names, bLuRrY?? -------------------- ~ørangutan I want high-bit characters in my displayed name!!! :( :( :( (Or at least an exclamtion point!) Hircania would be Hyrcania, I'm not sure about Aria, although it might equate to Armenia.
