This song will be playing when I meet the love of my life:
Get Off Of My Cloud, The Rolling Stones

Right now, I feel:
Casey Jones, Grateful Dead

What makes me happy is:
Echoes, Pink Floyd

My love of life was inspired by the song:
Where We Start, David Gilmour

My message to the world has always been:
Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk, Pink Floyd

Next time I'm in front of a crowd, I'll say:
Achilles' Last Stand, Led Zeppelin

My friends see me as:
Dream a Little Dream Of Me, The Mamas and the Papas

When I'm drunk I say:
Little Dawn, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists

My alter-ego is:
Misty Mountain Hop, Led Zeppelin

My deepest secret is:
A Legal Matter, The Who. It's funny 'cuz it's true.

My day will be like:
Seventeen Years, Ratatat. One of those long days, I guess.

When I'm in the shower, I sing:
The Whistler, Jethro Tull

My favorite thing to do is:
The Boxer, Simon and Garfunkel.

My parents are like the song:
Angel, Jimi Hendrix. Eww.

My ultimate song for dancing is:
Your Possible Pasts, Pink Floyd. Don't think you even can dance to this one

At my wedding they'll play:
Industrial Disease, Dire Straits

The story of my life is:
Getting in Tune, The Who

My innermost desire is:
What's the Frequency Kenneth, REM.

To cheer myself up I sing:
Things to Do In Denver When You're Dead, Warren Zevon

At my funeral they'll play:
Point Me At the Sky, Pink Floyd. Hee hee.

Phariton = Monarch? in Geneforge 4: Rebellion

You misunderstand me. I meant that the endings where the PC uses the Geneforge provide details that conflict with what happens to Monarch. Specifically, the PC winds up building himself a kingdom with his creations out in the wilderness, where he lives in isolation for a very long time. Monarch doesn't do either of those things. At least, that's what I remember happening, but like I said, it's been a while.

I don't remember the endings where the PC doesn't use the Geneforge nearly so well, but I think what happened is that the PC generally manages to readjust to society, and that the canisters only make him a little weird. If Monarch came from a non-Geneforge ending, you'd also have to explain how he got to be so incredibly powerful.

Furthermore, while Monarch's name is vague, his gender is not. The PC from G1 could easily have been a woman

It's been a while since I played G1, but don't all the endings conflict with the PC being Monarch? I'm sure the ones where the PC uses the Geneforge do.

What's the lowest level anyone has had when they've won the game? I just finished at level 31, and the final fight was pretty tough even on normal difficulty.

So I'm curious. What's the lowest level you've ever finished with?

For those of you who missed it the first time, this is a factional RP set in the world of Exile/Avernum, centuries after the games themselves. Magic is waning, but still exists. Some technology has been invented, and industrialization is on the horizon. From the ashes of the Empire, dozens of new nations have sprung up, each seeking to reclaim its legacy.

New people are welcome and encouraged to join. Full information is in the link above.

EDIT: Whoops, Thuryl did this already. Well, click the link anyway.

Bargha, the eastern outskirts. Two men leading a lizard-drawn covered wagon approach the city.

"My Lord Xivuth, you know I would never question your wisdom, but are you absolutely certain this is the will of the Exiled?"

"Absolutely certain, Az-ossath. Why?"

The slith mage adjusts his bright orange leotard nervously. "Oh, no reason."

* * *

They approach the gates, and a guard stops them. "Just what the hell are you lot?"

Az-ossath: "Well, we're certainly not here to drown you infidels in a cleansing fire!"

". . .what?"

Thinkly quickly, Xivuth punches Az-ossath in the gut, and answers for him. "He said, we're a travelling circus! Don't ye have ears, ye, uh, bilgerat? Y'arr!"

Guard: ". . . a travelling circus."

Xivuth: "Aye!"

From the back of the cart, a female voice cries out. "Eek! I can't wear this in public!"

"Alaran ye shut yer gab or I'll make ye the bearded lady! Um, me bucko, toot toot. Now, mister guard, where were we?"

Guard: "I was just getting to say that you don't look like much of a circus."

Xivuth: "Not much of a circus! Can you believe your ears, Thysser?"

A confused silence follows. "I said, can you, Thysser, the world's strongest slith, believe your ears?"

Az-ossath catches on. "Oh! Of courssse I, Thysssser, cannot, for I have no earsss!" He and Xivuth erupt into forced laughter. "And even if I did, I ssstill wouldn't believe them! Do you know why, my good man?"

Guard: "Um. . ."

Az-ossath: "It's becaaaausssssse. . ." At his signal, a dozen cultists in elaborate and colorful costumes leap out of the wagon. As Az-ossath's grossly exagerrated hiss rises, a juggling nephil and a diminutive ogre dance around him in a circle. Alaran, wearing barely anything, stands on the cart-lizard's back. Xivuth produces a cane and top hat seemingly out of thin air. Just when the slith is starting to turn blue, the performers break into song.

"We're the perfectly harmless circus!
We're here only to give you some fun!
We certainly won't steal anything!
We're leaving as soon as we're done!"

"We've got acts from near and far-a," sings Xivuth, "fun for the big and the small!"

"And now we've come to Bargha," adds Az-ossath, "with no ulterior motives at all!"

"We're the perfectly harmless circus!
Not the kind you interrogate!
We only live to make you laugh,
So let us through the gate!"

The nephil: "We'rrrrre perforrrrmers through and through."
Alaran: "We've clearly got nothing to hide." *wink*
The ogre: "We just want to put on a show for you,"
Xivuth: "But we can't 'til you let us by!"

"We're the perfectly harmless circus!
We know we can make you grin!
This isn't some fiendishly clever trick,
So why don't you let us in?"

The singers finish in a dramatic pose, while the guard looks on blankly. After a tense moment, he smiles.

"All right, get on in. And maybe," he adds, leering at Alaran, "we can have a private performance after."

"Sure thing, sugar," she says sweetly, while the carnival troupe hurries past. Whispering, she adds, "or maybe when the nine Hells freeze over." Soon the whole group is safely past the gate.

Az-ossath: *blink* "I refuse to believe that worked."

Xivuth: "It's the grace of the Chained One. Now hurry up and locate the Scepter."

Cult lands Headquarters of the Cult of Grah-Hoth.

Xivuth, Alaran, and Az-ossath are clustered in the former's dwelling.

Az-ossath: "Az-Ossath and I have finished our scry of the astral plane, my Lord. As we suspected, the Abyss Knights have the scepter."

Xivuth: "So there is no doubt?"

Az-ossath: "None. An artifact that powerful is unmistakable."

Xivuth: "Where have they taken it?"

Az-ossath: "Somewhere near Bargha. We cannot determine its precise location from this far away."

Alaran: "I do not understand. Why would the infidels go to such lengths for a scepter they have no idea how to use?"

Az-ossath: "Value, mainly. They'll keep it until they can find a buyer."

Alaran snorts. "They'll be hanging onto it for a while, then."

Xivuth: "We must recover the scepter. It is integral to our project."

Az-ossath: "First we must find it. And to find it, I must get closer to it."

Xivuth meditates on this for a moment, and slowly begins to smile. "Both of you, get out your fancy clothes. We're going on vacation."

The two lesser mages look at each other, confused. "Vacation, my lord?"

"To Bargha. And while their, we shall beat the thieves at their own game."

Near Grah-Hoth's fortress

Xivuth and Kzar'rhd are sitting across from each other at a simple wooden table in a small, spartan room. The rest of it is taken up by a small magical laboratory, only big enough for one or two at a time.

"Your master's offer is obviously generous. A proper research lab and assistants would be quite an upgrade over this," says Xivuth, gesturing to his surroundings. "What I'm not clear on is what he expects in return."

Kzar'rhd does his best to smile charmingly. "Very little. Some. . . less enlightened peoples, people without the benefit of your experience, "he says, picking his words carefully, "distrust undead. Normally we have no dealings with such simpletons, of course, but once in a while they're. . . a sad necessity. That is where you come in."

"So you're looking for a go-between. I'm flattered, but our image is not exactly the best."

These humans sure do love to talk. It's obvious he's already made up his mind.

"Maybe not, but you are still humans, and sliths, and nephilim. And, as much as you try to hide it, it is no secret you have your recruiters scattered over Ermarian. They could serve as ambassadors, carrying messages to places we cannot. The cost to you is negligible, and what we offer is, as you said, quite generous." At this, Kzar'rhd drums his skeletal fingers impatiently on the table, and for the first time Xivuth's face betrays a tinge of nervousness.

"Very well. You may tell your master we have a deal."

Scene: A desolate wasteland, somewhere in Avernum. Bubbling pools of magma cast their dim light on a group of crude stone buildings. A ruined fortress is barely visible in the distance. People of many races, most of them mages, move silently between them.

A young man is making his way across the jagged landscape. Outside the village, he is the only living thing for miles. He wears a mage's robes, but they are tattered and dirtied almost beyond recognition. He carries only a small pack, but it is clear he has had a long journey.

As he nears the first building, another man, this one much older, steps out to meet him. He too wears robes, and while his are in better condition they are clearly old. His hair and beard are long, and he looks as though he has not seen civilization in quite some time. The older man speaks first.

"Why have you come?"

"To serve the exiled god."

"Who told you of this place?"

"Jehram of Metris."

"Prove yourself."

The younger man silently raises his sleeve. His arm has been burned.

"I am Xivuth. Welcome, brother, to the service of Grah-Hoth."

-----

Name: Outsiders call them the Cult of Grah-Hoth
Leader Name: Theoretically, Grah-Hoth, but since he's nowhere to be found Xivuth is the one calling the shots.
Government Type: Theocracy, I guess
Location: : The extreme northwest of Avernum
Description: Troubled times produce troubled people. Some have lost whole families. Some look at a world in chaos and see the beginning of something much bigger. Some will not feel safe unless they are strong. And stealthily, by whispers and rumors, word of the cult makes its way to their ears.
The cultists believe that Grah-Hoth has spoken to them from his prison in the underworld, that someday he will return, and that when he does he will elevate his faithful over all the other peoples of Ermarian. And for any who helped him to return, well, who knows how great his reward might be?
The cult's ultimate goal is to bring about Grah-Hoth's return to the mortal plane, any way they can. Luckily, such a goal is enormously beyond their abilities, but who knows what trouble they might stir up in trying?

EDIT: fixed typos.
