I heard that song. I don't particularly like it, though. I'm more of a rock person, particularly the type most people call "classic" rock. It seems like an offensive term, though, because it implies that the musician and song in question are old. But that's completely off topic.
I think the meaning of life is completely apparent. However, this is not life, so I can't see it right now. This is all one big dream I'm having, and eventually I'll wake up and say "Wow, what a strange dream!" In real life, the meaning is obvious.
I call it Yellowsubmarinism. "Nothing is real." I know that line is from Strawberry Fields forever, but they used it for the Yellow Submarine movie.

I could figure it out if I really wanted to. But I'd rather spend my time doing more useful things than installing fifty different things just to make "Hello World!" appear on screen.

EDIT: It also doesn't seem to say where I'm supposed to get the stuff I need before I can install the compiler. It just says "You must have this and this and this and this" using a ton of programming lingo I don't know. I know nothing more than this: // starts a comment line. # starts preprocessor directive lines. ; ends a command line.
Nothing more. I need one for beginners.

GCC is a hassle of readin things I don't understand and installing other things I don't know about. Dev-C++ doesn't comply with the ANSI C++ standards and thus does not work.
I need a free, easy to install, legal, Windows compiler that works. Are there any in existance? It doesn't need to have the ability to make 3-D graphics or anything. I'm still having trouble getting "Hello World!" to work correctly.

Having the party need to rest was done in Revenge, a BoE scenario by the Creator. I don't see why it would be any harder to do in BoA.

I've wanted to learn how to program for about a year, but never had the time to learn. Now that I have my own computer, I can finally start learning.
Unfortunately, I can't find a compiler I can afford.
Does anyone know of any free C++ compilers? It doesn't have to be very good. I'm just starting.

Eh. I probably won't port it, but it was just a thought.
By the way, it was TM who gave me the idea of randomly choosing a number at the beginning and changing the scenario.
Scenarios with no combat and a lot of puzzles do work, if they are done well. But puzzles involving information that only three people and a canary know do not work well.
I was going to go into a big long rant about how BoE designers take the easy way out and don't put in any combat because it's too hard to make it fun, but then I realized I already made that rant in another topic.

If you are asking whether having real movie stars appearing in the scenario and helping the party fight off hordes of monsters is a good thing, the answer is no. But subtle jokes are okay, as long as there aren't too many of them.

I personally liked Bandit Busywork, although it could have been done a bit better. You know, like randomly choosing one of the suspects at the beginning, and changing the scenario a little to go along with each suspect. But other than that, it was kind of fun. If he doesn't port it, I will.

On Christmas Eve, I'll play FFXI, procrastinating running Bracket 7 of the Arena because it's boring (someone else who participates may do it), until my family drags me off to Church, where I'll listen (if only because it makes the time go faster). Then we all go to my grandmothers house and have a big dinner. The next day, I'll get up, open the three presents I get (I bought a computer, and went $200 overbudget, so that's my present) then eat some more and play FFXI again.

Haiku follows a pattern. Haiku has three lines. There are five syllables in the first line, seven in the second, and five in the third. For example, the poems in my previous post were haiku.

That is not haiku.
Haiku follows a pattern.
Five, seven, and five.

On another note,
Alorael is acting strange.
He hasn't sniped you.

Stop stealing his sig,
If you do not want to die.
He does not like thieves.

It is very strange
That he let you live this long.
Do not push your luck.

Now I'm getting bored.
I may write more tomorrow,
But no more today.

Hostility in Blades of Avernum
Shaper

Yes there is, as long as there's nothing hostile in the town, like rats in the trash pile outside the wall. Just set a timer to call a node every turn that destroys hostile monsters, and give a monster the party can't reach the ability "Call town node when killed" and make it display a message and kill the party.
I don't know how to do it if there are already hostile monsters, though.

Graphics or a good story? in General

You really feel that way about Resident Evil? I thought the plot was excellent, especially the second one. You just need to find it. As for the camera angles, they did that on purpose. It makes it more challenging. Also, if there's a zombie in your blind spot, chances are you can run away from it anyway. You aren't supposed to kill everything.
Speaking of camera angles, you know what would be great?
A second-person shooter! Seriously, think about it! A shooter game where the character is always facing the camera! What do you guys think? IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards Graphics or a good story1_files/tongue.gif)

It depends what kind of game it is, really. If it's an RPG, it usually needs a good plot for me to play it. However, there's a game for PS2 called EverGrace which, although the plots (two games in one) are extremely linear and lack any replay value, the graphics, gameplay, and equipment system are great. I just wish they had proofread a bit more.
For games that aren't RPGs, gameplay, then graphics.

Treefolk!
I actually don't remember ever seeing these in an RPG, but they are in LotR (they're called Ents) and M:tG, and they will eventually be in my games.
Even if you don't consider them RPG monsters, they're still the best.
