Good idea. I'll do it. I'll give you credit for coming up with the idea, of course.

I don't we should be too hasty as to deciding what should stay/get the boot. I call my single item there (a goblin!) an EDIT-ENHANCEMENT, not a pallete swap. I'd has some added goodies, but knowing my luck, it would get trashed for it obvious roots. This seems to be the case in many situations, so I say we be a little easy on the judgement of edit or color redux.

Is yours the goblin with the shield and the red eyes? I agree that graphics such as that one that have noticeable differences besides the color should be kept.

It's fine to have "obvious roots" in another graphic--without those, it is hard to tell that the new graphic was meant to be the same race / species / class, etc...

*points* Look, it's Frahhamn.

And regarding the topic: Color edits should be flagged, in a separate category, or removed. Otherwise, they're irritating.

So it seems the matter is pretty much settled. My question is: When will you get around to doing it? On account of my computer being old and the fact that there are so many color edits (Daniel, arggh) I cant even view the latter 3\4 of all records.

I'll do this time permitting - which is short right now. Probably in the next several weeks. The questions is what to do? Should I:

A. Eliminate the color-shifts entirely, making them a seperate download.

B. Include a filter on the search page that reads "Include color-shifted graphics," with the default being unselected?

A is cleaner for two reasons:

1. This will reduce the DB text file - a file that is read completely into memory when you access the DB. That's what takes some time on machines with slower connections. It's currently pushing 200K. This would take it down to 50K.

2. I do not have a specific field in the DB for color shifts. I have one for original graphics, but I question if it's 100% accurate, as I added it after many graphics were included and then backtracked, relying on my own memory...

Option B will work, but it will take more time, and more feedback from everyone to make sure things show up correctly.

What say you?

Close. The Louvre is a BoA art database. It's in Brett's (Void Master's) signature.

And I highly reccomend method A. It takes an annoyingly long time to view all the graphics, and I have cable. I'm impatient, but still.

I'd like B if it worked as well, but A is clearly the choice right now. Maybe it's just here in NC, but it takes too long for not very much.

Color edits should by all means be made a separate download. The majority of views won't be searching for a "pink ogre" or what have you. They want to see custom graphics, or well edited ones, not ones they can easily make themselves. At least according to the polls anyways.
I'm not wholely against all edited graphics - it's my prime mode of creation myself. Naja's Black Winged Demon, Milla's Drake Rider, and Gregory Nesbitt's Karzoth are all good examples of decent edits. I really like how Andrew Budden edited the fancy armors and colored weapons from BoE into existence. Simplistic maybe, but it definitely took more work then just sticking it into PsP and hitting the hue/saturation/lightness control.

Make it A, I'd say as well. Currently, I wait 3-5 minutes for the search to load, and that's with a DSL connection, and not downloading anything else.
