Back to the original question, in an attempt to be vaguely helpful.

What platform, language, compiler and tutorial are you using?

IMAGE(Spiderweb Software Boards Christianity and the West_files/rolleyes.gif) ) that my belief is wrong and thus it isn't something worth arguing about.
I'm not saying you are wrong. I'm saying someone is wrong. And since we don't know who, I'm not saying you shouldn't believe what you want. In fact, I don't mind you believing things that are definitely wrong.

I don't fully get why beliefs without evidence should be considered worthless. All religions (and of course all other unexplainable things) are based on (what I know) things that probably never can be explained. I guess that's why they are called beliefs.
Well, my opinion of the value of religion is not one that is found often (or at all) in religious people.

Anyway, religions don't appeal to the scientific part of the human mind, but rather to the emotional part. I have found, that people need something to believe in, in order to, in lack of better words, keep up their mental health.
It might make you feel happier, but that doesn't make it any likelier to be true. Anyway, my mental health is fine.

And I have sometimes wonder what the world would look like if each and every thing would have been perfectly explained and everything would have a rational reason. Nothing strange, nothing mysterious. Isn't it a horrible thought!
It's not a horrible thought. The more we know, the more there is to be amazed by. And the explanations are normally much more wonderful than the mysteries. You can still be awed by the beauty of something if you know how it works (and then you can also be awed by that)

I meant contradictory beliefs. After all, if I believe I'm sitting at a desk, and you believe the sun is yellow, it's not the case that one is wrong. But if someone believes that there is a god, and someone else doesn't, someone is wrong, even if there is no way to tell who.

If you wish to believe that matter and fact are all that is, alright. There might be more that you cannot see but I see. But if I saw more and you didn't, I couldn't show you. So we'd be at a standstill. Neither could prove his/her point to the other.

I do believe that matter and fact are there is, but if there really is something else, that is also matter and fact, just stuff we don't know about.

I disagree. If two people have different beliefs, at least one of the is wrong. And then it's time to look for evidence. If there is no possible evidence for them, the beliefs are not worth much anyway.

I didn't get 10.2, but I'll probably get 10.3. The changes seem about big enough now to make it worth the money. (I don't have a meaty enough graphics card for the accelerated Quartz that was the main selling point of 10.2)

Adium can be made to use separate windows. It's in the Interface->Window mode section of the preferences. (It is indeed much better that way)

As for sounds, I don't find them too annoying (I only play a sound for the first message from someone and use dock bouncing to let me know about other messages), but you can change them, if you have some aiff files you want to use instead and if you are willing to dig (although it's probably more of a hassle than I'd be willing to go to)

I use Adium for AIM and Fire at the same time for ICQ.

Alorael is right.

Incidentally, on a Mac, Adium and Fire, and for a PC, Trillian, are better, IMO, than the official program, and are free.

I've been killed several times:

Once my brother killed me with an axe, and I returned as a ghost to haunt him. I was able to turn invisible at will, but it got harder the more often I did it.

I've been executed by being shot in the heart at close range. I woke up then.

I've had a knife thrown at my throat. It didn't actually hurt, but the feel of my lungs filling with blood was unpleasant, and I sort of thought "I want to wake up now, I know how it finishes". I did wake up then, and my throat felt funny.

I've been run over, and I returned as a zombie. But every often someone said my name, and when that happened I'd be teleported back a bit. It turned out that that was someone trying to wake me up because it was raining hard and I was getting soaked.

More Blades of Avernum Script Samples. Fun! in Blades of Avernum

It looks very good in general, but there seems to be a few things that are a bit awkward. Mainly, things like set_state() and set_flag().

Putting numbers in there things makes the code hard to read. It would be nicer if you could do something like:
set_state(attacking) or set_flag(party_has_gem, 1)
(or even party_has_gem = 1 and avoid using stuff done flags at all)

A simple preprocessor might help readability a lot here:
#define attacking 2
#define party_has_gem 4,3

And if not, and if the scripts are stored in text files like in Geneforge, there's always cpp, but that would just spew complications. I'd rather not make a scenario with a makefile.

Dynamic memory allocation would be nice... well, ignore that one :) (unless it turns out to be very useful)

I'm amazed that two more people have added a slash and another little number to the end. I did it because the number I wanted was two digits too long. Was I mindlessly copied, or is there something I don't know about quoting credit card numbers?

Why? It might be impossible to stop, but that doesn't mean it's necessary. Things would be a lot nicer without bigotry of all forms.
