Was it around in 2000?

Right clicking works for movement, but not for the equipment bit.

I tried playing with the speed settings...that might have been part of the problem, though I have to adjust the speed settings depending on the dungeon/town I'm in, which is in itself somewhat annoying.

But apart from that, it would definitely interfere in a lot of items, especially potions, and since you want Hippocrates here to focus on potions...

That's probably been in every game since G1.

More than likely...as I said, it was remembering, since it had been at least a year since I'd played any Spiderweb Software game before I picked up Nethergate: Resurrection not too long ago.

And I love the picture art for the skills, too...I loved seeing that return in Nethergate: Resurrection and I really hope Jeff decides to bring them back in Avernum V.

Music for Avernum V in Avernum 4
Warrior

I can definitely understand it too...without a good musical artist, the game will suffer. Still, Jeff has picked great music in the past...just listen to the title music for Nethergate Resurrection, or Avernum II...absolutely splendid.

Thing is, I don't like providing my own soundtrack for a game because--in my eyes--games should have the music built specifically around the plot, the gameplay, and so on. Music needs to fit exactly what's going on...using music from another game or from some random artist very rarely fits, and even when it does fit, it's a poor fit, which makes it jarring, and it recalls my experiments with Morrowind adding in Final Fantasy music...felt completely wrong.

So, I would like to see more music in the games if it's possible. But that's up to Jeff and whether he can get such decent music in, and really, it's more for added enjoyment in terms of immersion than anything else. The games are good gameplay wise, and that's by far the most important aspect.

I adore the splash art for Avernum II, especially when coupled with the music...it's absolutely genius and really makes me wish Jeff would put more music like that in the actual games. The background noises in places like, say, Fort Emergence are nice, but music would be good.

(And get rid of that one background noise with the kid or baby or whatever it is screaming("Waaaaah!")...right now the only place I can remember it playing is the Faerie Bazaar in Nethergate Resurrection, but that has to be one of the most annoying noises I've heard in a video game EVER!)

Oh well. Jeff needs all the money he can get if he is to keep making these games, after all.

EDIT: Oh, and I did recently purchase Nethergate: Resurrection as well...PC, of course.

Frustrating Avernum 1 problem(s) in The Avernum Trilogy

So, I've decided to start up a new game on Avernum 1 since I haven't played the game in close to two years, and I've rediscovered a couple problems--problems that might be same thing...I can't really tell--that plagued me the last time, only they seem worse.

Basically, the mouse is oversensitive. Oftentimes when I want to move just one space, I'll move two...not a biggie since this can be adapted around.

The real problem is with equipment and removing/replacing equipped items...most of the time rather than actually being removed or replaced, the item will switch places/come off, then go right back.

When you see this happen ten times in a row, you know there's a problem, and it's beginning to really bother me because it means I have to take extra care just to equip something.

But I suspect it's the oversensitive mouse thing again. I know it's not my mouse itself...it's a completely different mouse from the one I used before where I had this problem, yet I'm still experiencing it.

Has anyone else had this problem, and is there any way to solve it?

I don't know about the wolf, but Derek's ring is on a body somewhere a little to the southwest of the Jagged Aerie. It'll be an obvious skeleton, so it's easy to see.

It's on the second level, in the Halls of Learning...I don't remember which one specifically, but that's where the first four Craft spells are.

It's pretty easy to just bash down the doors, though...at least, that's what I remember being able to do.

Key V in Nethergate
Warrior

According to the strategy guide item list, Key V is obtained by returning the Selkie pelts to Selkiehome, but when I did that as a Celt, I didn't get the key...just some mumbling about an opened bridge somewhere that I could never find.

Now as a Roman I can't do the quest that nets me easy access to the underside of Hagfen so how am I supposed to get Key V? I want to do the quest for the Hag's but if I do that I can't return the Selkie Pelts.

So, is there another way to get it, and failing that, where is this bridge that is talked about?

No, but using the keyboard to move around is very clunky when you're used to much easier--and a much different system--of movement with the mouse.

That's why I suggest having this insta-movement be a feature that can be toggled, if that's possible.

Ugh...that's what I was afraid of. I hate that...I always use the mouse to move around in the other games since I can also use it for many other uses, and I hated--HATED--this.

Perhaps Jeff can integrate both? Say, have this be a feature one can turn off and on at will, with the old movement system from the Avernum and Nethergate games being used when the feature is off? That way, those who want it can use it, and those who hate it can use the old system, thus side-stepping the potential mess Jeff might make with potential players for choosing one or the other.[/QB][/QUOTE]

No, it works just like A4. You move to wherever you click. To move one space at a time, you have to click one space at a time. It's irritating to do that, but it's convenient to cross entire sections with a single click.

So, then, basically...when you use the mouse to move, you move like you used to in the older Avernum games/Nethergate: Resurrection?

Wait...Jeff is keeping the "move several spaces at once" type of movement?!

Ugh. That was probably the Geneforge "innovation" that I loathed the most. I HATE movement being taken out of my hands like that.

I also hated attacks requiring a certain amount of AP to be executed rather than being able to attack at 3, 2, or 1 AP.

If at least those two "innovations" are removed, I think I'll be fine with everything else Geneforgish...but please, remove the movement "innovation!"

Looking at the screenshots, it seems this will be another Gevernum. Will it still play like Geneforge as Avernum 4 did, or is Jeff considering returning to the Avernum 3/Nethergate: Ressurection style of gameplay and graphics? (My overwhelmingly preferred version...I couldn't stand the Geneforge games and I absolutely loathed Avernum 4 because of its Geneforge qualities.)

EDIT: I finally found them in-game. New question: Where are the five beasts? I've found two--the one in the Goblin Fort and one...elsewhere--I don't remember right now--but I'm still missing three.

EDIT AGAIN: Make that missing two...I found the one in Anwnn.

Also, how do I get my woodcraft skill up to ten in order to find that wolf? The highest I've got is four.
