You know, Marlina, er Selemmy, you really should oil the cranks on your bicycle. It makes a horrible squeaking noise when you backpedal. :P

Actually, Eph, it looks like that would leave the truly cool and worthy people to each other. Kind of like matter and antimatter cancelling each other out.

Careful, Marlenny, you'll induce Thurly into buying a plane ticket to NYC for a very long and exhausting flight only to find he can't land in a foot of snow when he gets there.

Old Navy ads make my bow(e)ls churn—inflicting upon me the worst summonings of inane retro pop culture in vain attempts to make their cheap, boring sweatshirts seem cool and sexy.

EDIT: Sent the queasiness away from my burpable Stayfresh custom metallic blue Tupperware and back to my innards where it belongs.

There will be no killing in this thread.
There may be metaphorical character assassination through Custom Title abuse. I haven't noticed anyone compelling for the last couple of days. The SICTG™ is getting restless. God knows what it might do next.

Perhaps you misunderstand me, my dear. There can be many stages to foreplay, but nothing beats teasing and the power of suggestion before anything else. Come over here and I'll be happy to demonstrate to convince you.

Hmmm...Miss M., will you be my Valentine?

P.S. - Oh, never mind...I forgot about your little fascination with Thurly. :/

P.P.S. - A little grumpy after your trip, Thurly? I had great expectations of scintillating future Random Observations. Rats.

It's hard to slip one past Supersleuth Slarty.

Keep this advice in mind this Valentine's Day folks: It has always been my experience that wordplay IS the best foreplay. Of course, you have to first have a Valentine with whom to employ it. :/

OK Klax, let's see what you got here:

17 mage
10 magery
10 spellcraft

13 tool use x 1.5 = 19.5

Total door opening power = 56.5. You need 48 points total to open the level 35 door. If any of your skill levels above is earned freely as bonuses from traits, then you have to subtract them. Clearly, this is the case. Ask Alorael to recall his method of calculating how many free levels you have hidden in your level stats.

"If I increase my mage spells to 18 could I open a 35 level door?"

You could save your game and try . There's no other way of telling until you know your free bonus levels in any relevant skills and recalculating your actual earned points.

Also, keep in mind that increasing magery or spellcraft have an equal effect on your magic abilities as incresing mage spell level, so increase whichever is cheapest.

Random Observation #3:

American TV was so all in a "we interrupt this broadcast for a live update" huff about poor Michelle Kwan not skating in the Olympics last night, that I never even got to see the Canadian women's mogul skiier make the Gold.

Random Observation #4:

American TV spends a lot of time talking about the Olympics. CBC (Canadian) TV actually shows the Olympics.

To make a somewhat related point, I think having bought into the post-industrial world assumption that the only way to not smell bad is to use deodorant shows how effective dominant thinking and commercial propaganda has been overall.

To not smell bad, we really need merely to stop ingesting processed foods or anything else with significant quantities of toxins. This works for me. I smell bad only when I eat badly. Stress of any kind makes it worse in those cases, which is interesting in itself.

I don't use deodorant, primarily because of the controversial issue of clogging one's pores with aluminum salts, which are in themselves toxic to human bodies.

But who even thinks outside the box when it comes to all the "normal" modern chemical wizardry we subject ourselves to? Advertising has been successful indeed. We believe in the necessity of many things we never needed before. How did anyone in the world have teeth before toothpaste? Contrary to popular belief, for instance, many medieval peoples actually had better teeth than the average American with modern diet and soils stripped of essential minerals.

Who could refuse one who asks so politely for your self-termination? Sounds like cabin fever is setting in in snowy Wisconsin.

There is lots of snow on our two mountain ranges here in western Washington. There has been virtually none on the ground this winter here near sea level. We have had some lovely wind and rain storms instead though.

Heh. Well, it's not exactly "bad" advertising, but what frequently amuses me (when not also insulting me) are all the myriad drug commercials which have proliferated in the last few years. I guess the pharmaceutical corporations expect that the public will convince their doctors they need Lunesta™ or Prozac™ or the latest erectile dysfunction elixir of life after seeing a thirty second commerical.

But what makes me laugh specifically are the hastily quoted required grocery-lists of possible bad side-effects and warnings offered cheerfully:

"Maycausebleedingfoulgasbloatingstomachacherunnyeyeshairlosstoothdecayirritabilityorimpotence.
Peopleusing(x)shouldn'tdrivesleepeatdrinkorusetheirbrains.
Longtermuseof(x)maycausepermanentblindness.
Patientswhohaveusedanyotherdrugduringtheirlifetimearewarnednottouse(x)... and so on.

If name-brand recognition is the only significant goal of advertising, and it is the primary one undoubtedly, then why do so many commericials in some way seek to inform us of the dubious "merits" of their product, rather than merely amuse and captivate us with flashing lights and scantily-clad vixens holding up the product? Surely they aim at more than mere awareness of the existence of their product.

So then, if most people are like you, impervious to suggestion consciously or otherwise, why do companies spend millions shoveling us advertisements?
